Duff, I'm thinking you are getting damn close to needing to settle on a name for the new member of the clan coming soon. Yes?
You are correct.  The wife and I are still battling over names, though.
I will give you the same name suggestion that I gave my co-worker when his son was born back in 2003.  "Blake Elliott"  ;D

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Duffman.  Your lives will never be the same.

My strategy on picking names was to wait until she was in labor to have the discussion.  That's how I got an English/German to agree to 3 Irish names.

Why, you sly old devil! :o  Did you at least allow her an epidural, or were you counting totally on unendurable pain?! :P ;D

Thanks for the nice words about the Linnemann piece, guys. An interviewer's job is a heck of a lot easier when you have a subject like Linnemann. He's a bit easier to talk to than, say, a 15-year-old giggling gymnast.

"I love to, um, well, jump."

Nice work sfury, reading this interview has given me a fever for some SJU football this fall!

As promised, a shameless plug for my interview with former St. John's star quarterback Tom Linnemann. Obviously Johnnie fans will find more interest in it than others, but there's stuff in it for all MIAC fans, including Tommie talk, and great insight into playcalling and what it's like dealing with injuries. He even talks up Mount Union. As always, Tom was very entertaining and not afraid to share his opinions. We talked about Gagliardi, The Sweet Season, being hated and much more. Hope you enjoy.

Great stuff, nice work. But how'd you get him to talk? ;)

And this from SJU today:

Thanks sfury, I really enjoyed this interview.  That Johnnie is a funny guy.
I'm always impressed w the loyalty the players/fans have to the program.

I suggest "Bob."  It's a classic.  8-)

Yes, but a short-lived classic.

JG: I'm doing Gophers games this year. What should I wear?
Donna Valentine: Could he wear cargo pants?
PA: No. This isn't the MIAC. He's not doing games at St. Thomas.

Ouch.

The article was a great read, Shawn.  Funny how much he sounds the same as he did in Murphy's book.  The videos add a nice touch and show a guy who's still just a kid so far as the game is concerned.  I'm firing it off for consumption overseas.

Two ... more ... weeks.

Bethel hired a new baseball coach. Brian Raabe.

Quote
A New Ulm, Minn., native, Raabe was a stand-out middle infielder for University of Minnesota. At the U of M, Raabe was a four-year letter winner and member of the 1988 Big Ten Championship team. Raabe's skill earned him many honors including All-American honors, All-Big Ten Honors, and the Rod Carew scholarship award.

In 1990 the Minnesota Twins drafted Raabe in the 41st round of the amateur draft. During his three years as a professional, Raabe spent time in the Twins, Rockies, and Mariners organizations. Raabe was also selected for many honors as a professional; in 1996 he earned the Triple-A batting title, he was a Topps All-Star in 1996-1997, and he also earned three different minor league All-Star honors."

If he can coach as well as he could play we should be in great shape!

Also, Paul Swan was recently honored for his 10 years of coaching RB's at Bethel. Swanie is just a great guy. Career teacher and coach who in retirement has dedicated himself to more coaching at Bethel. Not quite as old or accopmlished as Gags, but he's up there and been serving as faithfully for a long time.
