At the name of the year!!!  Hawks v Carlton!  Go boys and light them up!

Well, just what was the name that was so great?  "Bob"?

So no word on why Brayde Lipp didn't return...anybody got any info yet?  My guess is that either his rehab didn't go well or he wasn't where he needed to be academically.  Anybody else got any information?

Time for a little dad bragging?  Indulge me. #2's gymnastics squad took third overall for their level at the State Champioships today by taking first on bars, second on vault, third on beam and fifth on floor.  Mrs Oz and I are very proud of her and her team.

When asked for a quote by a reporter, all the nine-year-old could come up with is, "I like to, um, jump." ;)

Oz, just don't do what one parent did when I interviewed her (giggling) gymnast daughter. I sat on one end of the couch, the daughter on the other. And the girl's mom planted herself right in the middle and answered every question before the 9th grade girl could speak. "She loves gymnastics." Giggle from the girl, which I guess meant it was true. If she didn't like a question she brushed it off and went to the next one and if she liked it, she answered, then the girl giggled and agreed. So don't be that stage mom - or dad.

Nice article-would be nice to hear him on the Johnnie broadcast-he was enjoyable the first time around.
Looking forward to actually getting back to SJU for a game in September and not November-have one if those milestone reunion years.

From rumors I have heard, it's academic problems.

Did any tweeters out there notice that CobberSID is basically tweeting play by play of the the Cobbers inter-sqaud scrimmage today?  It's about as bad as the guy at Wayzata High School that does in fact tweet the entire play by play of the game.  What I love about Twitter is that I can get short, "PERIODIC" updates on sports, news and other information.  However I find it really when someone is tweeting a message every 30 seconds!

I'll let CobberSID slide for now but if he intends to be tweeting play by play the entire season (which will dominate my Twitter timeline) I will have no choice but to savage him further!

Peter King said exactly this to his media brethren on Monday Morning QB last week. Play by play updates of training camp, practice or games on twitter is just overkill.

A highlight, TD, etc here and there to keep people up to date on the game is fine, but if you've tweeted over 12 times during one game, you need to take a chill pill.

I was following Judd Zulgad on Twitter until he started tweeting about every little thing at Vikings training camp.

FYI: The Cobbers SID is a Johnnie grad, Jim Cella. Great guy, awesome SID.

I agree wholeheartedly with the play-by-play argument if it's every play on Twitter. But just checking, they had 19 tweets today. Two were interviews after the scrimmage, five were pictures of players or coaches. So 12 were about the actual scrimmage and half of them were about scoring plays. I don't think that's overkill. For any non-Cobber fans? Yeah, probably, especially since it's a scrimmage and not a game. But I'm sure Cobbers and Cobbettes liked it and that is going to be the primary audience.

19 tweets of a D3 inter-squad football scrimmage.  I'm self-recognized Johnnie football rube and even I think the 19 tweets is a bit much.  The GopherFB twitter page had 1 tweet about their scrimmage yesterday.

I think you're being a bit harsh there, faunch. Goopher fans also have about a hundred media outlets and fans forums where they can get information on the preseason. The Cobbers wouldn't have much more than the SID's twitter feed. I say let him tweet. It's no skin off anyOne's nose if he does.

An update on the Johnnies playing for Team USA in the AFL International championships.  The USA has been playing out of their skin, as they say, and have destroyed all they have faced (outscoring their opponents 170 - 19 in the two playoff seeding games).  They enter the semi-finals seeded second behind only Ireland.   A victory on Wednesday morning against the third seed Papua New Guinea will see them play at the MCG in the Grand Final as the curtain raiser to the Hawks v Bulldogs match on Saturday.  If I can get away from work on Wednesday, I'll zip up to the field and cheer on the boys.  If not, I'll cross my fingers and hope to see them in the Grand Final on Saturday.

I see Coach Horan is tweeting, too.  Can you imagine John Gagliardi tweeting?  ;D

He does or at least he did. Check @SJUFootball
It seems he had 6 total tweets with the first one being "Trying to figure out twitter"  ;)
