sorry to be the bearing of bad tidings to the Saint John's faithful on here. but the mother of Fr. Timo Backous (SJU football PA annoucer and Headmaster of SJP) passed away this weekend:

May she rest in peace.

There's a 1970 SJU grad from Wabasha (played B Ball against us in HS) named William Bill. Nickname: Bills.

The USA takes on Papua New Guinea in about 35 minutes, but I've got too much work on and can't get over to watch the match.  I can keep an eye on the score via Twitter, however, by following the #AFLIC11 hashtag.  Twitter is quickly becoming as critical to information flow as ATM's are to retail purchasing and buying drinks at bars.

Want to hear some MIACers in action down in Melbourne?  http://www.ustream.tv/channel/international-cup-2011

EDIT: PNG dominated the first quarter, but poor kicking kept the USA in the game.  PNG lead 16 - 6 at the first break.

EDIT: The USA held off PNG pressure for most of the quarter but then the US failed to convert a couple opportunities right in front of goal which PNG turned around into major scores for themselves.  It doesn't look good for me and the girls watching the Johnnies play for the USA on Saturday morning at the MCG.  It's a 43 - 7 PNG lead at the half.  The USA need a big third quarter to have any hope.

EDIT: That's all she wrote, folks.  Despite a big effort from the USA where they had the best run of the play, they failed to dent the scoreboard and allowed a last minute goal to PNG that nullified what little gain the Revolution had made.  It's 53 - 16 at three quarter time.

EDIT: And PNG win going away 68 - 21.  It sounded like PNG opened the match fast and hard and the US never got a chance to catch it's breath and get into the game.  So, there's no Johnnie football at the MCG.  Darn.

Hey Finsleft,

I see where Hamm's tirdy packs are on sale across the street here for $11.29.

I've done the math. You should grab a U-Haul and head on over here to Wiscy.  ;D

OK...minor dilemma.  Should I attend the SJU season opener against NWBC or attend the State Fair w/ the wife and kiddies?
1. My feeling is it won't be much of a game and why cash in valuable points w/ my bride on it.
2. I'd really like to get up to C-vile the 10th and 24th and also want to attend the UST game...that's 3 out of 4 Saturday's.
3.  Better get back to work at the house...I need to build up some wife credit.

Skip it.  As much as AO likes to think that NWBC can "hang in there" with the Johnnies, I doubt it  :D

JOHNNIE FOOTBALL IN 2011, SO LIKE HEAVEN!!

                       By Johnnie Red

Sept. 3 brings Northwestern to Collegeville, the first of two Bible teams,
the second being Bethel on Oct. 8, may the Lord smash their dreams.

The Royals having defeated the Johnnies four of the last five years,
this year the rivalry at Clemens stadium will bring the latter cheers!

Cheers for a win in red and white, SJU soaring to the usual heights.
A conference crown, deep into the playoffs, showing again the Johnnie might.

Speaking of many years, St. John's has beaten UST 12 times since `97,
this season will continue that tradition, ending the Tommie one season heaven.

Traditions abound around the Johnnie stadium, starting with the Abbey Church,
celebrating its half century mark on Oct. 23, 2011, it is a place in heaven.

Also above the stadium will be the 10th anniversary of the Stiftungsfestivities,
a renowned tailgate party for all, friends and foes, many activities!

Grilling the famous burgers, deviled eggs galore, jello shots and more.
Paris Hilton on the boom box, exciting us to watch the Johnnies score!

The tailgate's name is from MN's oldest celebration, the Stiftungsfest;
this coming weekend, 150 years of what the founding fathers could do best!

"Where there is singing, there you may rest secure, because evil people have no song."
A motto of the Pioneer Maennerchor, the singing organization founded in 1861 that made this celebration last so long!

On the Johnnie football field, the Johnnies will also be celebrating in 2011,
forgetting about the three losses last season by a total points of seven.

Six home games, a visit to UST to put the Tommies back into the loser's cell,
the 59th season for coach Gagliardi at SJU, a tradition known so well!

Well done, well done.  Especially the part about Paris and scoring.  ;)

Still trying to figure out what some of the new bells and whistles are. If you've posted a message you see some of the tools are better for changing font size, etc. There's also a stripped down version for mobile browsers.
