Retired Old Rat

Johnniepress, thanks for setting the record straight.

Typical Tommie.  ;D

I'll give Maniac the benefit of the doubt and mark it up to his advanced age.

Mr. Ypsi

Ah, love these lover's quarrels among Catholic schools.  Sounds like Hope vs. Calvin!

Let me give you someone to unite against (and provide a defense for Maniac's 'advanced age').  The Popes are always of rather 'advanced age'.  You may be thinking he is signing the cross from the balcony.  Nah - he's a fellow geezer! ;)  He is really muttering (as he goes up, down than lateral):

"All you big tourists, all you little tourists, get the hell off my front yard." ;D

Now we know how they are (and who is) paying for their new "state of the art" facilities... :-\
uhm, yeah, the athletic facility and the soon-to-open Student Center are paid for by the genrousity of the Anderson fmily. (much like the Clemens family's donation paid for renovation of a certain football field and the Warner family donation paid for a state-of-the-art in the erly 1970s)  :)

Pollyanna ;), just because someone has their name on a building doesn't mean that they donated 100% of the cost. Heck, even at a west coast university I am familiar with, "Uncle Phil" may have paid for the new student athlete academic center, but the university had to pay to provide parking facilities for the athletes while they are using the facility (interestingly, the lot is usually empty...). That was part of the terms of the agreement. I don't think it is that unusual for schools to have to provide matching funds (or a percentage of) for these kinds of donations.
The Andersons donated $60Million and the athletic center cost $52Million.  Maybe the Anderson's didn't also want to build the student center and larger parking facility to accompany both buildings, but any good fundraiser will use one big donation to spur on many others to build something else.  The extra $3 for the Tommie-Johnnie game isn't going to be enough to build another new locker room,  it might buy another treadmill.

I couldn't find what last year's paid attendance was, but did see something about total attendance being over 16,000. Even if half of these fans are paying $3 extra dollars, that's $24000. That is one expensive treadmill... 8-)

The important thing is how can the Rat Pack and the SJU crowd make fun of the UST Athletic Department.  I think the Rats should run around the filed with large $3 bill w/ Steve Fritz's picture on it and word GREED on it.  Maybe make some fake $3 bills and toss them into the crowd....any other ideas???

Are any of the tommies going to reply to the lack of seating for those affected by the price gouging?

are the Johnnies also increasing ticket prices?  The attendance at the last tommie-johnnie game at UST in 2008 was 7711.  UST Students and Faculty don't pay anything and unless something changes visiting students are still paying $3.  Visiting students pay $5 at SJU.  I doubt that half of the 7711 are paying the new $10, but even if they are--$24,000 was way off and still won't pay for the locker rooms or Jumbotrons the Andersons did pay for.

You crack me up, AO.  An equal opportunity sledger.  You knock bennie for overstating the $24k but don't let the Tommies off either.  You learn how to do that at Northwestern?

Yesterday during the parade there was a group of guys dressed up as Nazi soldiers. First time I have ever seen that. Then again, it is a German celebration.

Seriously?  >:(

German celebration or not, that goes way beyond bad taste. Actually, you'd think the reality that this was a German celebration would be a major reason why you wouldn't see it happen. Go to Germany sometime and see how sensitive they are about that subject. Call your average german citizen a Nazi and see how they react.

Not to mention the offense to Jews, Poles, Roma, Russians, Ukrainians, Serbs, the handicapped, alied POW's, homosexuals, Belorussians and others. That is a really stunning display of insensitivity and ignorance, at best. I get the free speech element, but I'd hope plenty of people in the crowd utilized their free speech to deservedly deride these idiots.

Football single-game general admission prices are $7 adults ($10 for the Oct. 1 St. John's game), and $3 for students (fans under age 5 are admitted at no cost).

The extra $3 doesn't bother me so much; it's at least an acknowledgment of the meaning of the game and the opponent.  Riddle me this, who will (or could with a straight face) charge extra when they play UST?

Quote from: Retired Old Rat on August 29, 2011, 10:35:48 AMI'm sure this will include zero seats on visitor side for SJU fans.  The only seats on that side of the field are the UST booster seats that are cantilevered over the visitors side of the field.

Now THIS does piss me off.  Most classless seating arrangement I've ever seen or heard of.
