* As for how many teams in the MIAC have permanent visitor seats behind the visitor bench, I know of two or three.  However, I know of no team at any level of football that has permanent home-team-only seats on the visitor's side, which is the issue here. -- Bethel, SJU, GAC, Concordia are the ones I can think of. That being said, I can think of plenty of DI programs that reserve the seats directly behind the visitors bench for season ticket holders. Arizona reserves the 10,000 seats (goal to goal) closest to the visitors sideline for its students! At places like Nebraska, to get season tickets you've got to donate to the school to get your name on the list, the more you give the better your chance/seats. Maybe you just need to give $30k to UST, then they'd probably let you sit there, even in your Johnnie gear  ;D ;)

* I am pleased to hear that there is a covered patio area underneath that you say can hold several hundred for standing room and that you say any Johnnie fan should be able to utilize if they arrive early.  Why do I think that won't actually be the case come Oct. 1? -- They did allow us to stand underneath for the West Region final last year. Which was really enjoyable as we got to witness firsthand that money can't buy you class. I was standing directly behind the Bethel D's bench and heard some incredibly inappropriate things said to the Bethel players and coaches throughout the entire game. Stuff that has no business being said in public or in the presence of women. Nothing like 50 year old men heckling 19 and 20 year old players and female trainers/managers. But I suppose when you can sit in the reserved seats and are protected by campus security who won't allow anyone up there to confront your ignorance, anything goes   ::)

* What would I have changed in this arrangement to satisfy the "few dozen Johnny fans who are bent out of shape"?  Aside from not building it in the first place, how about letting it be a seating area for the Johnnie fans, or for all visiting teams in fact?  When Notre Dame plays USC at the Coliseum in Los Angeles, ND brings so many fans that SC moves the seats of many of its season ticket holders for that game alone and opens up some of the good seating for ND.  You're as magnanimous and fair-minded as the Trojans, aren't you? -- Personally, I think we should simply return the favor. Rule that the 'visitor's' side bleachers are reserved for the SJU/CSB and BU student body only during games when UST comes to visit. I wonder how long it would take before Caruso started speaking up about the injustice of the situation.  8-)

I witnessed this same thing at the UST/Linfield playoff game.  Quite startled by the behavior.  While I will do my share of Tommie bashing, I do think that this is not indicative of the Tommie fan base overall.  I hope that feedback was provided and the miscreants will be better behaved in the future.

I'm thinking a video camera with a good mic and videos posted on You Tube might be a good idea.

Every fanbase has their fair share of jag-offs. Had a blast at Stiftungfest last year, only to have a guy kick me in my leg as hard as he could after the missed extra point. Hung out with about a thousand awesome Johnnies only to have one be an a-hole and take the fun out of the experience.

The lack of gorilla-esque levels of arm hair was a dead giveaway, that you were not, in fact, Glenn Caruso.

Ha, that entire exchange gave me a good laugh.

Yes, every team has their idiots, on the field and in the stands. It is simply annoying when it takes away from great football. This is one reason I love DIII, for the most part people understand the proportional level of passion they should direct at and invest in the games. Love your teams. Cheer hard for them. Celebrate their victories and loathe their defeats. But at the end of the day, it's just football. It's not life or death and there is a whole lot more that unites a typical DIII/MIAC fan than divides them.

I think we're all just itching for some game-day football, no?

The only danger at Nebraska is that the home fans would pay too many compliments to the visiting team.

Very true. As I watched Texas rip our heart out last year (or maybe it'd be more accurate to say I watched our receivers rip our collective hearts out with all the drops), it was nice to see the class of our fans. One guy stood up to heckle and curse out Mack Brown during warmups. Everyone around him gave the fan dirty looks and finally someone just laid into him to shut up and sit down. Unfortunately our play on the field that day didn't do much to put Texas in their place  >:(

Love to see all the pissing and moaning. You guys need some cheese to go with all that whine?

That's the entire reason I was whining. I assumed all the wealthy Tommies seated above me had loads of gourmet gouda and brie that they were hoarding and not sharing with me during the game  ;)

From the outside looking in, your board is fun to follow and you guys are lucky to have 3 great schools/programs so equally competitive (uh oh- didn't mean to start anything).  Like UST said- look at the OAC- and be thankful.  As impressive as coach K's record is- it's hard for me to give credit to Mt and at the same time- not say "what the **** is wrong w the rest of the conference?"

Duff,
Eagle/Johnnie game  or Sturgeon Fest?  :(

Sturgeon Fest sounds like a good time!  I'm not sure if I will be in Collegeville this weekend or not.  It's likely our last trip to our cabin for the year, but if the weather is crappy, I may shoot on over to check out the Johnnies for a few hours.

The Johnnies are the only team in the MIAC without a returning starting QB.  Who's going to win the job?  My money is on the Bruns kid.

They seem hot on Ries, but it wouldn't surprise me if Bruns stepped it up.  His brother, Nick, was a gamer.
