Just got this Tweet:

QuoteSJUJohnnies New for 2011-12, scoring plays for football and soccer games (all home and select away matches) will be tweeted as they occur in real time!

Nice! (although I couldn't care less about the soccer scores)

Duff, the rest of the world thinks of soccer as football  ;)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Which makes a whole lot more sense as far as names.  Kicking is a comparatively small part of American football, but 90+% of 'world' football! ;)

The Johnnies are the only team in the MIAC without a returning starting QB.  Who's going to win the job?  My money is on the Bruns kid.

They seem hot on Ries, but it wouldn't surprise me if Bruns stepped it up.  His brother, Nick, was a gamer.

Any likelihood that Gags does the whole rotation thing against NWC on Saturday. A series or quarter to each guy in contention until one establishes himself?

This seems to have been implemented in the past when there wasn't a returning starter or clear cut replacement. They've even done this against the likes of Eau Claire before, so why not use Northwestern as an interview for the Bruns and Ries? Assuming they're neck and neck

My prediction is Ries gets the start in recognition of his experience.  Bruns comes in for the 2nd half, or earlier if Ries falters.  Bruns wins the job.

If he falters against the Eagles, somebody else better get the job  ;)

Faltering, in this case, would be not scoring on 4 out of the first five possessions.   8-)

I agree with ROR....it's a two horse race, however I'm not sure which wins.  I think Ries has the edge however the few times he spelled Boyle he wasn't very prolific.  With their ability to run the ball the Johnnies really need to find a passer that can take advantage of teams that are trying to stop the run.  What I don't want to see is ring around the QB for two weeks.  They need to settle this prior to UWEC.

As far as UST's QB race is concerned, it appears Greg Morse is not even going to throw his hat in the ring this year as he has decided not to play. Bummer...he wasn't the gamer Dakota is, but they definitely pushed each other.

They do return a ton of quality depth at RB. I'm not sure they have the best backs in the league, but they are probably the deepest. If they use these guys well, that can be very effective, especially as they break in a new QB.

And yeah, they'd better get it figured out before UWEC. But I'm guessing it's all squared away by the end of NWC.

I always thought Roney's motto was: Doing less with more...and getting paid for it too!

Touchdown Tommy

Gonna miss you this weekend in Collegeville, Veek.  LBean and I will keep your VIP 50 Yard line seats warm.  Smart decision to head to the Little Falls Arts and Crafts Festival.  Gotta save your "Hall Passes" for the important games (and road trips to Moorhead/St. Thomas).

Bench:  I just took a look at your squad this year.  They sound like a Juggernaut again.  3 transfers from the U of MN.  Loaded with starters from Cretin Derham Hall and Eden Prairie and Totino Grace.  I'll be out at the State Fair tomorrow night heckling Caruso during his "Hollywood" 6:30pm show with Mike Max.  All games on WCCO 830am this season.  The sleeping giant has been awaken and the future is not good for the rest of the MIAC.

I made it out to the Stiftungsfest in Norwood-Young America last Saturday.  Tremendous event.  The burgers, German beer, and polka music under the "Big Tent" were top notch.

Clark when are you coming to MN?  I want to make sure we are ready for you.

Darn, we liked Morse better.   ;)

One of the transfers is a fullback that split time last year...but, he was certainly good at what he did. We had 3 transfers from the U of M the year we went 5-5 with a preseason ranking of #20. So Hazzben is correct in the "Doing less with more" mentality of the prior regime. Sometimes talent just falls in UST's lap because of our location, the trick is knowing what to do with it. Caruso seems to have that figured out.
