I'd have to question how many of Boyle's games you saw.

I've been to practically every game for the last 14 years and I saw Boyle many times.  He was decent but he was not AK or Keating or Denne or Linneman or even Stanger.  A good QB but a step or two below those guys without question.

No, he wasn't any of those guys.  I don't know your knowledge base for critiquing quarterbacks but Joe Boyle was way more than decent.

Sounds like you guys can't agree on what SJU is accustomed to at quarterback.

Linneman,Denne & Keating all had one thing in common....they were throwing to Blake Elliott at one point of their tenure under center. Blake had a way of making everyone around him play and look better  8-)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Haha, yes, yes he is one of the same Djurickovics. He started in the game this weekend & ran for two TDs. I won't get into game stats this being a MIAC board, but you should definitely catch a game at Carthage. They just finished the student center on the east side of the field which connects to new home side bleachers. The restaurants inside all stayed open during the game which was great!

Red.Men1 - I am a Johnnie grad/fan living in Lake Geneva. I get the Kenosha rag, so I get to keep up with Carthage sports. Sitting where I do, between Kenosha and Whitewater, it would be nice if Carthage gave me another option to watch a game when UWW is away. Is the QB who came in, Dj*&^%$ch, the BB Coach's son, and the brother of the departed BB star? Good luck the rest of the season. Just don't get too optimistic. Beating Carleton is nothing to get excited about. Although the come back showed something, after a dismal First half. :P

Hi all - I'm at Carthage fan..made the trek up to Northfield for our game against Carleton. I was just wondering if there were any Carleton backers here..or anyone that might have an update on the Carleton player who got injured this weekend. Looked pretty rough - ambulance came and they were very careful in handling him..never good to see, your team or your opponents. I just thought I'd come to your board and see if anyone knew anything. Good luck on all of your respective seasons!

Didn't get a chance to watch the game this weekend, so I didn't see it.  Do you know the number of the injured player?  I can try to get an update.

I didn't catch his number...they got his jersey & shoulder pads off of him pretty quickly. Thanks for any investigative work - I hope he's doing okay!

Sounds like he had a slight neck injury, but he's doing fine.

Thanks for the update - Glad to hear he is doing okay!

Duff- that is not good-what is SJU lacking-besides everything-honestly-speed? Size? Were the guys underclassmen-which could explain the defensive problems?

I don't know exactly.  I actually thought the offense moved the ball alright.  The running game looks pretty decent.  Johnson is a shifty back and Johnson runs with reckless abandon.  I thought Bruns looked pretty good considering he's a sophomore.  The pass protection was a bit shaky.  The defense was terribly overmatched.  The secondary was a half-step behind the receivers.  The d-line was getting blown off the ball.  There was about two plays where SJU actually had a respectable pass rush.  If the d-ends know what containing a QB means, they sure didn't show it.  And aside from a few decent kick returns (and there were a lot of kick returns!), special teams were atrocious, too.  A fumbled punt?  Two missed extra points?  A punter that can't punt under pressure?  Sad, sad, sad.

And then you go and get a taunting penalty on an extra point...down 31-7  :o

cobbernation

If the defense of SJU is as bad as everyone is saying it could be a good game this weekend at the Jake!  In the first 2 games the cobbers have decided to fumble 6 times, but only losing 1.  They will definately be needing to hang onto the ball this weekend to compete with the johnnies.  Looks like the cobbers have had success in the ground game as well as passing in the first 2 games, however the strength of their first 2 opponents is still in question.  This weekends clash should provide more insight on the strength of both the cobber and johnnie programs.  If the cobbers can get a consistent running game going then they should be able to score and eat up the clock as well as keeping the SJU offense on the sidelines.  We all know SJU can score in an instant!

Yeah...usually the instant you think you've got 'em on the ropes. >:(

Looking forward to another wild matchup this weekend.

Triple Post Spectacular:

If the Johnnies lose up North on Saturday, does the faithful start to fear a 5-5 or losing season?  They'd be big underdogs to the Tommies and Royals.  Gustavus just went down to Waverly and nearly knocked off Wartburg.  St. Olaf, Augsburg or Carleton might also be up to the challenge.

USTBench

So, MHB beats UW-L by 7 at home and moves up from #5 to #3? Did I miss something?

Not that it matters, but I feel like it should be:

1 - UWW
2 - MU
3 - Bethel (That's right...I can admit it)
4- UST
5 - Linfield
6 - MHB

I believe I already posted that fear.

The loss Saturday does tell us something about how horrible Northwestern is, too.

Cheer up Duffman. If it's any consolation, I have every confidence SJU could win the UMAC.
