Well, this was not the result I expected to see when I logged on to the scoreboard.

I once worked for a CEO and we had a bad quarter and he was conducting the quarterly conference call with investors.  He was getting hammered and finally threw up the white flag and said "not too often when this ship misses the harbor, it is the harbor's falt"  I thought that was clear enough!

For the players and all other stakeholders, I hope the ship finds the harbor soon.

Well, STU surely was not looking past Concordia towards next weeks clash with SJU. Wow, do they impress on both sides of the ball, and with a very well balanced offensive attack. Beautiful day, and a hard fought battle, but obviously not the outcome I was hoping for. Dakota has a very nice arm at quarterback...pretty much put the ball in the only place it could be caught in good coverage several times. I look for the Tommies go far this year.

That being said, what's up with going for the 2-pt conversion with a 20 point lead, then when it fails, pulling the onside kick?
If the human brain were so simple that we could fully understand it...we would be so simple that we couldn't.

I thought the two point conversion was strange. It wasn't like they'd missed a point after attempt prior.

But the onside kick just struck me as gutsy and brilliant. UST took the ball to start the half and scored. By going for the onside kick, recovering it and then scoring, they essentially put the game out of reach. And up by 20 early in the 3rd quarter is not the time to take your foot off the gas in my opinion. Especially given the way Concordia came back last week against SJU.

Well-this is the worst SJU team I have seen since '86-what kind of coach does not have at least 3 deep on the first play for Auggie-simply poor coaching!!

I guess the kind who's won almost 500 games.  ::) What makes you assume it was coaching? No way the players made an error on the field and failed to execute the play that was called?

Unless you're privy to the call and knew they were in Cover 2, that seems like a rash statement. Now, if they were in Cover 2 or straight man at that point in the game, then yell about the coaching all you want, because it'd be a terrible call.

Nice Woody Hayes quote!  +1 (Except Woody was up 34 for almost no time left.)

Rookie coach Bo Schembechler made him pay for the insult, beating what Woody called his greatest team ever the next season.  Karma's a bitch! 8-)

They were in cover 2. Point being they had only one safety back on first and essentially 80, with 17 seconds left.

Also, why not go for 2 after the go ahead TD for SJU? It would put you up 6 and force Auggie to make Xtra point to win-which they missed twice. Maybe coaching?

SJU defense gives up 529 yards to Augsburg...never thought I would say that  :o

The Gophers were making a nice comeback against NDSU...but now they choked  :-\

Do all college or pro clocks use tenths of seconds? When I saw .6 still left, I had a sinking feeling something terrible was about to happen. Where's the homefield clock operator? Well, first game I saw in six years and it was at least incredibly entertaining. By the way, were others there when they came out 20-30 minutes later to kick the extra point? That just added a level of bizareness to an incredible game. Shooed everyone off to the sidelines, 11 players from each side lined up for the kick, because they had to go through with it on the off-chance SJU returned it for a score to win. They just snapped it and knelt. But Augsburg got to celebrate again.

I'll enjoy watching the rest of the games, even while biting my tongue.  529 yards to Augsburg????? I'm not at all looking forward to STU.  I think we can state pretty clearly that SJU is down talent-wise.  When Johnson and Caruso are out actively soliciting good players and pressing the H.S. contacts, it's still good policy ensuring the continued success of a program to let people come to you?  The recruiting battle is being lost and something needs to change.

SUMMIT!!!!!

I was wondering why they didn't have Augs try the PAT. People I mentioned it to blew me off saying "it doesnt matter, they won"....but as sfury points out, a blocked PAT could have been scooped by USJ and run back for 2 pts-- I know Bethel did that several times when Kirby Carr was there. Sounds like the refs failed to handle the situation properly but eventually it all got settled.

Easily one of the most exciting games I've seen....and a postcard perfect day for football. Good eeing everyone at the Stifftungfest... those Chicago polish are to die for!

It was crazy, Maniac. and kind of funny. First time I watched a Johnnie play from the sidelines. I told the Augsburg assistant who explained what was going on that the way the game was going, you'd almost expect the Johnnies to take it back. Of course they didn't even take the chance and knelt. But that is why they should have gone for 2, to put them up 6, especially with the struggles they had. Jimmy said in the postgame they should have gone for 2.

Chewey, I don't think you're necessarily wrong. At the same time, I'm expecting someone to suggest, "I don't know, maybe it's time for the Johnnies to start tackling in practice. And what's with this no whistle thing?"

Having seen Coach Gagliardi accept defeat in past, I'm more worried about him right now than I was Jerry Kill at end of New Mexico St. game.
