From Frank's blog:

* A downscale from a story I wrote earlier this week. St. Thomas school officials now say the temporary bleachers being brought in behind the south end zone at O'Shaughnessy Stadium for use by St. John's fans will seat more like 500 people instead of the 1,000 originally thought. The bleachers cannot be large enough to block the scoreboard.

So since the extra seating has been cut in half, are they only going to charge $8.50 as opposed to $10?

What do people think about SJU designating next season's 2012 game vs. the Tommies as a "Premium" game.  Bleacher seating on visiting sideline could be sold for $20 a person (that would be a quick $20 grand or more).  Maybe another large set of bleachers could be placed in the southeast, southwest and northeast corners of the endzones and seats could be sold for $15 a pop.  Let's also jack general admission to $10.  Truth is those shuttle buses that are utilized every game and the extra security that SJU has on campus for every game is a fairly significant expenditure.  Why not pass the "buck" on to our purple friends.  From the way their campus is growing it would seem they have plenty of $$$$.
Finsleft could even get in on the action and auction of his skybox seating to the highest bidder.

Nice try,, but they have to cover the expense of those rented bleachers......geez!  ::)

Yeah, but they're only getting half as many, so they should only increase the price from $7 to $8.50, not $7 to $10.  ;D

Is that Johnnie Math? There are still 2500 additional seats in the North end zone.  :)

OAS is back! If only there was a Kilted Rat, Wonka and JohnnieESQ appearance we'd be in business.

No not Johnnie Math...maybe were jus able to read gooder than use guys.

From the UST SID Gene McGivern:
--The 29-year-old stadium record for attendance (8,541, set in 1982) could be challenged, although it's anticipated that no fans will be turned away. Besides approximately 5,000 permanent seats, there will be portable bleachers brought in for the game with room for 2,500 to the north end zone (UST section) and another 1,000 to the south end zone (SJU section), plus ample standing room surrounding the field.

Will Cold Spring's own Eric Decker run roughshod over the Packers this week?

Due to the pathetic state of the Vikings over the last few years, I'm considering the heretofore unthinkable step of converting to a Packer fan. Does someone have enough to talk me off that ledge?

I've been a Viking fan since they came into the league, and still remember their first game where they beat the Bears.

Right, but the UST section will be full (well, full by UST's standards) of students who don't pay (at least on game day) to get into the game. Additional seats are additional seats; gotta cover those costs somehow.  :)

All this pissing & moaning over having to pay a few extra stones to take in a ballgame has left me feeling bad for you boys. What's the matter, that Johnnie degree and education doesn't have you bringing home enough dinero? Perhaps now would be the opportune time to point out another one of the benefits of a Tommie degree-a few extra discretionary stones and the ability to loosen the belt a little! Don't let your kids make the same mistake-the Johnnie circle of poverty will just keep repeating itself! :-*

Johnnie tailgaters:  Does anyone have a gas grill that can be used tomorrow at St. Thomas?  Given U$Ts ban on just about everything, no charcoal grills.  I have a smallish gas grill, which won't be enough.

The Monday Morning Quarterback thing disgusts me. If you watch that and think used car salesman Glenny C is interested in keeping his roots at UST you are crazy. If he grew his hair out I'm sure it would have him looking like Don King, the only man who self promotes more than he.

So you are acknowledging that you tune in to MMQB...LOVE IT! I have a sneaky suspicion it's not GC's "self promotion" that is bothering you. Call the motives what you may, MMQB is an asset for all things UST.

Good luck on Saturday!

I have no problem with a SCHOOL taking advantage of opportunities to raise its profile. Marketing now plays a huge role in how schools communicate with students and seek prospects. After all, SJU's athletic director came from the marketing side of the sports office before joining administration.

My thing with the Monday Morning Quarterback is it seems to be all about Caruso, and not the University. (In all honesty I've probably watched 4 of these over the last number of years) IMO the reason he does these sorts of things is to raise his profile and not the school. Why else would he lead the team on the field each game, at the front, arms locked with his players. Does he not realize he no longer plays. That is his prerogative and he doesn't have to answer to me. There just seems to be something contrived about him. Whether it's the ringing of the bell, locking arms with the team as they enter the field, MMQB, singing the UST fight song at the end of the game; it all seems designed to build up the coach whereas the players, assistant coaches and University are just pawns. It's simply not a style I enjoy.

I find it odd that St. Thomas could find the millions to build the Anderson Athletic & Recreation Complex yet needs to pass the bill for some extra bleachers on to fans.  It seems like a drop in the bucket, and they can already anticipate big increases in ticket sales and concessions with the following the Johnnies will will bring to the game.

Something I found interesting (and I'm sure it has more to do with Gagliardi's long tenure than anything else):

St. Thomas lists 12 coaches.  3 of them are U$T alums (25%).
St. John's lists 11 coaches.  9 of them are SJU alums (82%).
