Hasn't been any talk yet (probably because of the lack of Oles on the board), but the Goat Trophy/Cereal Bowl/Turning the Eagle is on the line this weekend in Northfield.

An article on the history of the Goat, though they couldn't find a recent picture of the tropy, apparently.

Will this game be using the metric system? http://northfield.patch.com/articles/this-picture-in-history-who-needs-yards-northfield-played-metric-football.

Nerds.

Believe it or not, in 1977 this was not thought of as nerdy.  We were taught the metric system in 1st -12th grades as it was a foregone conclusion that the US would switch to the metric system.  I wish we had.  Going 105 sounds a lot more fun than going 65.   ;)

OK ROR, but if it had stuck, Sammy Hagar would have to re-do his speeding anthem " I Can't Go 55!."

What would it be? "I Can't Go 87.5 KPH." ?  ;D

I saw this and thought of you guys this morning. Never been to the festivities at SJU, but I think this could be added to your playlist.

Toby Keith - Red Solo Cup (Unedited Version)

This could quite possibly be the best song ever written in the history of the world  ;)
Truly this is the anthem of my youth,I wouldn't trade those days for anything, but I'd never go back either. ::)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

"The wider field allowed the St. Olaf team to use their strength in running the ball outside, giving them an advantage over Carleton."

Yeah, a wider field.  That was Carleton's problem.

Right, it was obviously the length of the field and not the width that gave the Oles the advantage that year.  ::)

I do remember Hoag leading all competitors in trash talking however.

Oh yeah, he loved to run his mouth.  As a DT, I didn't ever really get a chance to shut him up...till I got a nice shot on him on an interception return  ;)
And yes, this was the same game that Frank Rickard (if he's still alive) lit me up on a trap.

The State Patrol on Thursday night identified the men killed as Craig D. Carlson, 47, of Ramsey, and Ronald J. Rajkowski, 44, of St. Joseph, Minn.   Anybody know if this guy was the brother or maybe cousin of Frank Rajkowski?

For those happy to see D III games on TV, its been rumored that ESPN 2 will be carrying the D III Semi-Final games this year.

UW-Whitewater and UW-Stout are playing under the lights...any thoughts on some MIAC teams doing this occassionally?

I believe Augsburg has dabbled in night games a time or two, but I think it could nice for some schools to do this to give the game day a little uniqueness and enhance the atmosphere.

We played at Eau Claire under the lights in 2002.  It was nice because it was hotter than Hades that day, so it cooled off a bit once the sun went down.

I generally like day games.  As a fan, the weather is usually more pleasant, especially later in the season.  But night games have their certain charm.

I agree that football under the lights has a unique charm and would be a good addition to the conference schedule.

I could be wrong about this so please correct me if I am, but aren't the only MIAC stadiums with lights Auggie and U$T?

I don't think Bethel has given any serious consideration to adding lights.  In addition to the game field, lighting would have to be added to the parking areas and walking routes to the stadium to safely accomodate an entering and exiting crowd.  Also, balls kicked toward the east goal post would be very hard to find in the reduced light in the trees and high grass.  A net would likely have to be added there.  I'd imagine the neighbors to the south of the stadium would also have something to say about it.
The artist formerly known as Carl Spackler... it's nice to be back!

I have one here but it's probably not one the Ole Touchdown Club is going to want to use: http://www.d3football.com/notables/2008/for-carleton-walk-is-a-step-forward

I went to the SJU ---Gustie game when the 5-9 cb covered Hoag---(I think his name was James,,,...can't remember his last name) completely dominated Hoag that he totally shut down in 2nd Q---without totally embarrassing Hoag, let's just say he scored very low on the football toughness scale......

You're probably thinking of James Schaefer if it was 2001.

I believe this game is being played tonight for 2 reasons:

-The high schools in Wiscy played last night
-The state band competition is being held in Whitewater at the stadium on Saturday, which would make it tough to have a football game unless it was at Cal.
