You guys are really wrapped up in proclaiming the greatness/foresight/courage/.... of St. Thomas.

Georgetown?  Give me a break.

Can we get back to football?

Yes, I know you kicked our asses this year.  Please lord that over us.  That has become easier to accept in light of the asspirational pontification.

I agree.  Since we likely won't see the fruits of UST's current efforts for 20 years and much of this is conjecture, let's get back to talking about football by starting with a compliment.  Hats off to SJU!  At 63 - 7 they did an outstanding job of stopping UST from winning 3 back-to-back shutouts.  :)

Last I checked, each school in the MIAC has a noble mission statement, aspires each year to inspire it's students through coursework and campus life to embody that mission, and does a pretty darned good job of doing just that. To that end, we should all be proud of not only our favored institutions, but champion the cause of all. Friendly rivalry is a lot of fun, but it seems some sensitive issues have been stepped on over the last couple of pages. Each of our schools has an element that likely "bests" other schools in a particular domain. It is up to an individual whether these "bests" of a school make that institution the overall best for them. The MIAC schools may differ, but each great in its own way.

So, as was recently stated, can we get back to football? Or even attendance figures? ;)

They usually do very well nationally in debate ;D. We are the Switzerland of the MIAC. I think we'd also sell our colors to STU if the price were right...they could look more like Boston College

At least until someone pays to cover that as well

Nice.  Many of my relatives went to Concordia...never heard them say anything close to offensive to anyone, at least not in public.  What do you think of next week's matchup against Bethel?

I think the Cobber-Bethel matchup, and the following Cobber-St.Olaf matchup will be some of the most interesting MIAC games of the year. I think the Bethel offensive line could give the Cobbers 3-4 defense fits. The Cobbers have been impressive at getting a pass rush, but they will probably have to do as they did against Augsburg--focus on stopping the run and hope they don't get burned on the pass, in order to have success. Concordia is hitting it's stride right now, and the last couple games have been without their top halfback who was injured early vs. Gustavus 3 weeks ago. I don't know his status, but another week and a half can't hurt.

Look for a close, hard-hitting battle (as usual). This has usually been a good game, and this year should be no different. I know I've lamented this before, but if Concordia had been able to pull out the OT victory against SJU, a lot more eyes would be on this game. Of course, I'm assuming the Cobbers don't get tripped up by Hamline this week. (Can't find the proper emoticon).

Agreed.  Don't forget that the Cobbers racked up more points against UST than any other team this year.  With a few openings they could score some points, especially since they're starting to peak.  No comment on Hamline...empathy and discretion are virtues.

I find the comment about Chicago Catholic high schools and freshman football and players wanting to go to UST very interesting. I live in the Chicago area, attended a Catholic high school and have a son who is a freshman football player and most players don't know UST from SJU or any MIAC school. They have heard of UWW and Mount. (Lake Zurich High School has a nice pipeline to UWW). But if you ask the high school kids about DIII college football, you get answers like UWW, Mount, St. Norbert, North Central, Beloit, etc.
There are obviously some kids that have dads, or brothers or cousins or friends who have those that have attended UST/CST or played in the MIAC that know about UST, but there is absolutely no coverage here of DIII football in Minnesota. As it is, it is hard to get coverage of Wheaton or NCC.
So, I don't think there will be a great migration to UST from the Chicago Catholic League. But I have always felt that the CCL would be a great recruiting ground.

'Interesting' indeed. Although, as a Tommie backer I would probably choose another adjective to describe the conversation. It's encouraging to me because I know that Coach Caruso has made it a priority to recruit the Chicagoland area. Specifically the CCL, ESCC and Suburban Catholic Conference. Apparently their leg work here is paying some dividends. I think that tailback up there now is having himself a nice little career-finish strong!

While I'm in no way insinuating that there will be some 'great migration' to UST. All it takes is a few more in the mold of Colin Tobin every year to make those efforts worthwhile. Keep up the good work GC & staff.

I don't know -- St. Thomas is working that area hard.

Chicagoland is the daddy.... good luck with that.

Several thoughts regarding the  Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Message Board.

1)  STU could advertise and market themselves as the "Notre Dame of the Great White North",  so they do not have to compare themsevles to the "real Notre Dame".  Also, remember the temperature difference between Minnesota and Indiana.

2)  SJU is really, really, really in a rural area and lacks the feel of a college town environment.  While STU is in a cool environment, period. Easy choice for this Irish Catholic.

3)  Pat, from a homeboy standpoint, you  must be really excited about the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference having the most interesting message board  to visit and follow on DIII Football.  Thanks Pat!
