Bench, you were much more tolerable when you went into your 6 year hibernation and forgot your password.

It was one year, and it's a lot easier to tolerate someone when they're 2 - 8 and lose to Hamline. But now I can finally see why people hate fans from successful programs...so I got that going for me, which is nice.

SUMMIT!!!!!

Some interesting statistical data heading into Saturday's showdown(aka The Big Thrill at the top of the Hill)

1-2 - St. Thomas and Bethel's rank in the conference in scoring offense, scoring defense, rushing defense, total offense, total defense, punting and opponent third-down conversions, and Bethel edges St. Thomas for the top spot in pass efficiency, to add some tangible evidence to the weight of Saturday's Top-10 showdown in Arden Hills.

After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

Given how Bethel has been successful, I see 10-6 as a possible outcome.  Two field goals for St. Thomas.

I expect Bethel's corners to be in the same zip code as Waldvogel.  And be very physical with him.

Maybe, but you would only come out for four posts a year.
Everyday is payday in paradise.

First time this late in the year I can concentrate on high school football playoffs here in Illinois. Next week will give me that chance to see all those future UST players-before they kick SJU's backside-can't wait.
My guess 3-2 Bethel.  ;D

Ha! Most creative prediction yet. 4-2 would be even better  :o

D O.C.

I'll take the Fritz.
If memory serves, didn't the Fritz and the Wall miss last year's playoff game?

BU Faithful

Don't listen to 'em USTBench.  Your posts are the only thing that makes wading through the SJU blather tolerable.  And about Saturday - love me some Royals, but have a hard time seeing them hang with your boys.

BU 31 UST 28...Bethel's kicker wins the game and redeems himself fully from last years struggles on a game winning FG as time expires

That kid is the same kicker from last year!?- Holy cow (no offense to any Hindu who may be reading this post) but that kid must have gone to a shrink 6 days a week for 6 hours a day since the end of last season to be kicking like he has this season! :o
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Get to the big game in Wilmette on Saturday and you will have a chance to see a few! ;)

I think you read a whole lot more into the rivalry than the average fan.

Quote...the big Catholic school in the Twin Cities that gets all the major donations and hogs the attention.
Hogs all the attention?  Sorry to burst your ever-expanding Tommie head, but aside from UST or maybe MIAC alumni, I don't see the general MSP population giving a rat's arse about UST, nor any other MIAC institution.  I hardly think they are "hogging attention".

Take a look at the amount of press coverage UST (the university, not just football) gets in the Twin Cities.  The short answer is that it's a lot.  UST is the largest private university in MN by a long ways and the alumni base is huge, second only to the U of M, in the Twin Cities.  If UST develops or merges with a major medical school, as has been talked about for some time, their profile will jump even higher.

The general population seems to have enough interest to warrant a major media provider, WCCO, seeking them out for exclusive broadcasting rights to UST athletics.  Over time this will further expand the fan base outside the Twin Cities and across the Midwest.

I'm going to take a guess and say UST is paying the "good" neighbor to broadcast their games and all that UST press is paid advertising.  Take it to the bank.

You beat me to it, Dusty.  The fact that WCCO is carrying U$T athletics says much more about how far the station has fallen than how much the school has risen.  Further, there is no way carrying U$T sports could be a profitable venture for CCO purely by ad sales.  That level of interest in the purple cat sports just isn't there fellahs, sorry to burst your bubble.  So if ad sales aren't enough to make WCCO money (they are in business to do that, after all), there's almost certainly some extra guaranteed cash coming in to make the deal sweet.  It doesn't take a "rocket surgeon" to figure out where that money is coming from.

Interesting to read how Bethel was so high on the rivalry meter for both SJU and U$T players on the board.  My list would go as follows:

1.  SJU
2.  U$T
3.  GAC
4.  Concordia
5.  Augsburg

Do you have any facts to back up this assertion?

Sure did, but my schedule working and coaching have allowed others to beat me to it.  Enjoy the game this Saturday. :)

Played football and graduated from Loyola. Have many contacts there-will have to talk to coach after game-make sure he is sending players to the correct school.

No kidding? Holecek and staff will be able to corroborate UST's recruiting efforts first hand. I know Mahones will. We must have many mutual contacts.

Should be a whale of a tilt. Was planning on being there myself, but wife (Regina girl)vetoed and we're off to South Bend instead.

On a side note, quite a few of my buddies were on Hoerster's '93 state championship team. A couple of them ended up at UST, but gave up the gridiron glory.

Was there for Whitney Young and Maine South last year.
Did you happen to know a guy named Evangelides?
Will make sure to wear my SJU gear on saturday for all to see.  :)

Print up some businesses cards that say SJU Chicago Catholic League Recruiting Coordinator and spread them around.  ;)
