Now let's see if the Tommies can do something we haven't done since the late 40's...back-to-back conference titles. Also, the gopher game was a blast

Even if you lose, you've already sealed up a share of the title this week and locked up a Pool A bid. You're simply playing for the title outright at this point. And to make your case for a #1 seed, which is really the bigger deal, IMO.

As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Another NYT article on SJU and Gagliardi.  This one is really pushing the retirement barrow.

Actually, it's an odd article the more that I think about it.  A sort of "the old farts should give it up" type thing.  Why bother with page space for that?  Which NYT readers care about old geezers (Paterno included) that the NYT thinks should hang up their playbooks?  The NYT chased a mundane dog-bites-man angle with a couple bones tossed to the it's-all-so-unusual-to-coach-for-so-long platitude.  Duh, I hadn't realized.  No real insight at all, really.  The Foxsports article that stanbob linked was much better.

Good to see football is catching the UST fan base by storm....

On a pretty decent day with conditions being reported as "sunny, light wind and 50 degrees", the Tommie nation turned out in force with 1,770 in attendance to witness another conference championship.

On a pretty decent day miles from the heart of the city where life appears to only exist for UST fans, Collegeville fans turned out a paltry crowd of 7,071 for a team hovering at an even mark of 4 - 4.

More proof money and buildings can't buy you love.

So 1,770 people attended the UST conference championship game at a time when students are on a break.  How many fans tuned in online to watch the game?  I know we had about a dozen over at my place watching the game and enjoying a few cold beverages.  Also, how many listened to the game on WCCO?  I'm not sure how telling attendance numbers are in the information age and when your broadcasting partner reaches the entire region.  A growing portion of the UST alumni base is living outside MN and traveling to the games is not practical.

I had two UST run-ins yesterday  >:(

First, our guest priest announced that his normal duty is as a professor at UST  ::)

Second, we pulled up to check out a daycare, and I noticed the "my daughter and my money go to UST" bumper sticker on the back of their Suburban.  Turns out one of her daughters is a Tommie.  Sadly, we really liked the place, so some of my money may indirectly be going to UST  :'(

Little "Duffy" comes first however I'd be concerned about a purple bib being slapped on her when you're not looking.   :'(

I was doing some remote support on my daughter's laptop the other day.  I didn't think she was watching.  I changed her home page from St. Thomas to to SJU/CSB.  Unfortunately, she was paying attention.  Busted.

What better to spit up on?
Everyday is payday in paradise.

I watched the UWW game on Saturday, while listening to SJU-who gets credit for attendance? I would rather have the 7,000 or so paid (or whatever minus students) than 1,770 paid (minus students) while 6,000 listen and watch.

You can't make excuses for this, it is what it is. The fact remains that the game day experieince at St. Johns is special and every other team in the MIAC would be very happy to have 50% of the fan attendance that you see at a St. Johns home game.

Keep going back to that if it makes you feel better about 4 - 4.

A day in Collegeville and a game in the Natural Bowl always makes me feel good.   A day in Collegeville with an 8-0 team would be better.
