So UST is the only team that will be representing the MIAC in the playoffs this year.  We've talked a lot on this board about the reasons why some other teams have fallen from grace, but not as much about what makes UST football so dominate.  Is it the coaching, recruiting, facilities, teamwork, general excellence, or something else all together?

I would not call a 2nd round playoff  Win in double overtime on a fumble inside the 4 yard line  "ust football so dominate" .. ???

We would like a rematch in the catdome.. and should/Could be considered ??? with both teams being undefeated and the cats  beating two in regional ranked teams with a win this sat.   and ust only one??  i know i know the sos is low   :)

To clarify, I was mostly talking about UST dominance in the MIAC.

Mr. M ,
i don't agree with you about that either maybe this year only :-*  but that's what the board is about ..  8-)
I do agree that you have great facilities  8-)... But SJU beats you when it comes to  tailgating  for sure .. 8-)

SJU is way more "dominate" in tailgating  :P

Desertcat1, thanks for the kudos for the Stiftungsfestivities! Somewhat sad that we won't be having another tailgate until next fall in Collegeville. :'(

SUADC in his incoherent rambling about how sweet Delaware Valley is, managed to muse a rather interesting thought.

If someone were to break up the seemingly inevitable UWW/Mt. Union reunion at the Stagg Bowl I just don't see that team coming out of the East.

Maybe it's talent saturation, maybe it's too many helicopter moms making their kids play soccer, but with a billion schools crammed into a very small geographical area and the East Coast culture of crabcakes and sailing, I doubt we'll see anyone from the East not ending its playoff run in a blowout for awhile.

St. Thomas has never played against the purple powers to show that they deserve to be #1. Yet, Bethel has played Mount Union twice since 2007, having a good game last year, but getting destroyed in 2007. I just don't think the 'West' should be represented by a team that has not proven themselves historically in the playoffs by not playing either Mount Union or Wisconsin-Whitewater. I would still consider Linfield more of a #1 seed than St. Thomas, because they have went toe to toe with "west" regional powerhouse Wisconsin-Whitewater. As far as Delaware Valley, they played Mount Union last year and got beat 31-3. But, at least they did not give up 24 points in one-quarter like Bethel who St. Thomas lost to last year. Now, go enjoy some east coast crabcakes and go sailing on the great lakes.

So your argument for not making UST a #1 seed is that they have never played UWW or Mount Union and lost to a team (that they beat earlier in the year) that allowed more points in a quarter than Delaware Valley did last year against Mount Union?  Do you work for the BCS?

Is this multiple choice? Yes? OK, I'm going with "(f)something else all together". *

*I was hoping there was choice (g)the strong (some call it 'dominate') English program.

I'd be hesitant to use the word "dominate" (or more correctly, "dominant") based on a 2-3 year window. Yes, UST has been enjoying a fantastic run with back-to-back titles and repeat unbeaten regular seasons (the MIAC's first such instance since 1962-63), but "dominant"??? The win at SJU in 2010 can not be called dominant (cathartic, yes; exciting, yes; thriling, yes) and UST struggled in a few games both seasons, games that could have gone either way.

"Dominant" would be Mt Union's stranglehold on its conference... when we win our 5th conference crown in a row, then I will call it dominantion...till then, its a good, solid (and enjoyable) run!

I spoke to a mother at church on Sunday who proudly told me "St. John's Doesn't Show Well"... I bit down hard... "Did she know who she was speaking to"? you bet she did, a former sister in law to one of my best Johnnie buddies.... I pleasantly agreed with her as she went on about the Anderson Athletic Meca and how her son didn't need an official tour of SJU after having made many visits to the campus.

Hell, I never had an official tour either.... I went to St. John's because it was SJU and that was 30 years ago!

I've figured it out.

Okay, I've modified the question a bit:

We've talked a lot on this board about the reasons why some other MIAC teams have fallen from grace, but not as much about what makes UST football so dominant in the MIAC this year.  Is it the coaching, recruiting, facilities, teamwork, general excellence, a combination of all the above, or something else all together?
