I wouldn't say UST has been "dominant" either, but it's been a nice little run.

I will say it's finally nice to be hated for being good at football along with myriad of other things people hate about us.

I'd say UST has clearly been dominate this season.  They've outscored opponents 390 - 100 and let's not forget about the 63 - 7 blowout, which likely foreshadows things to come in the MIAC.  What else is UST hated for besides football?  Hated by whom?

You truly must have never left campus in your four years at UST.
In my four year (albeit mediocre) T&F career at SJU, I discovered in conversations from athletes across the MIAC that a general dislike of UST is not just a symptom we men from Collegeville experience.
In my years since then, I've met guys (and gals) that participated in a wide number of activities from almost every MIAC school. All of them tended to label UST as one of their top two least favorite schools in the conference (for most of them UST finished second behind their natural in-conference rival).
Simply put, I have come to discover that resentment comes as a reaction to the general arrogance and sense of entitlement of your average Tommie. Obviously, not every student fits that mold, but that doesn't change the fact that there is a palpable sense of entitlement on the corner of Cretin and Summit.
Heck, even my girlfriend (a Tommie) admits that she was not part of the mainstream at UST. The majority of the girls were too catty and the guys were, well, douchebags.
Again, and I can't say this enough, that's not all Tommies... just the majority.

Mr. Miac,
I'll use this one time to play online grammar police, and only in light of the earlier dominate/dominant fiasco. But if John was handing over the "reigns" to someone, it would actually be the "reins" he'd be handing over.

Anyway, Sansevere talks to John about Joe.

Thanks for the grammar lesson.

I'm not even sure what that's supposed to mean.

Mr. MIAC, I have resisted the urge to -k.  Today I can resist no longer.

I think the whole karma thing is pretty funny.  I find it humorous when posters complain about getting hit.  It's happened to me, don't care.

At the risk of sounding incredibly ignorant, I've not once paid any attention to the karma. I couldn't tell you the first thing about what it means or represents. I've seen many posts referring to the +/-k and figured it was in reference to the karma, but never really cared to notice. Do people really pay attention to it and why?

The Tommies dominance in track (except for last year) probably leads to this.  I can't speak for the other sports, but I know the after-conference parties at Carleton and Olaf always ended with a "Tommies Suck" chant.

Because it's there.  And when you get to 1000 karma points, you get something special.

Right, I experienced a lot of it through the T&F side of the house.
But, in the years since then I've noticed the general dislike of UST transcends sports.

So UST is the only team that will be representing the MIAC in the playoffs this year.  We've talked a lot on this board about the reasons why some other teams have fallen from grace, but not as much about what makes UST football so dominate.  Is it the coaching, recruiting, facilities, teamwork, general excellence, or something else all together?

I'd be hesitant to use the word "dominate" (or more correctly, "dominant") based on a 2-3 year window. Yes, UST has been enjoying a fantastic run with back-to-back titles and repeat unbeaten regular seasons (the MIAC's first such instance since 1962-63), but "dominant"??? The win at SJU in 2010 can not be called dominant (cathartic, yes; exciting, yes; thriling, yes) and UST struggled in a few games both seasons, games that could have gone either way.

"Dominant" would be Mt Union's stranglehold on its conference... when we win our 5th conference crown in a row, then I will call it dominantion...till then, its a good, solid (and enjoyable) run!

Okay, I've modified the question a bit:

We've talked a lot on this board about the reasons why some other MIAC teams have fallen from grace, but not as much about what makes UST football so dominant in the MIAC this year.  Is it the coaching, recruiting, facilities, teamwork, general excellence, a combination of all the above, or something else all together?

Not so sure that UST should be even discussed as dominant as of yet.  For UST to win back to back conference crowns is impressive, but I would choose SJU as the dominant team of the MIAC.  SJU since 1999 I believe won 9 of 13 conference titles (includes this season and data retrieved from d3.com all rights reserved to pat!).  If UST can match that then we can discuss, but until then we can talk about UST and their fall from grace which starts in the fall of 2012.

So you don't think UST was dominant in the MIAC this year?  I'm not talking about a decade back, but this year.  What has made them so dominant this year (maybe the past two years)?

Sure, UST was dominant this year.  They beat every team in the MIAC and most with ease.  What's made them dominant?  I always believe it starts at the top with coaching and then getting top notch recruits who believe in the coaches system.

This goes for all schools in the MIAC, it's probably easier to recruit great athletes when they know they can get a quality education in 4 years!

The resuscitation of Tommie football relevance can be attributed to two things: 1) the administrations commitment of resources (read $$$) and 2) GC & staff.

DoubleO,
Few things about Karma:

1. In the same way we can judge a football program based on attendance, so we can judge a poster based on karma.
2. Touchdown Tommy's record for -karma is as unbreakable as Gagliardi's wins record. And as it is with John's mark, there are whispers that TT has stuck around all this time simply to pad his -karma, so that no one will ever be able to approach it.

USTBench

I bet Sagatag's old lady was such a mainstream Tommie that the boat she sailed Lake Minnetonka with was called "Mainstream Tommie."

I concede that there are many-a-douche at UST, but I wasn't trying to work for 3M, start a Federalist society, or join the sailing...ahem..."team," rather I gravitated towards a more laid back, athlete-type crowd. Thus, I missed most of the wine and cheese soirees at the James Hill mansion on Summit. I can pretty much guarantee if most of the guys on this board met 99% of the UST football players over the last decade they'd find them to be pretty good dudes. Of course, like any team, there are exceptions.

Anyway, if you have to rag on me about something, I do have a tendency to make off with cow related drinking devices after a few too many brews.
