... because it would very much help UST's case to be a #1 over Linfield (I assume Mount is going east, UWW is going north, UMHB is in the south and the west is between UST and the 'Cats).

What difference does it really make? SJU beat (shocked is more like it) the Cats in the Catdome in 02 & then froze the Cats in The Natural Bowl in 03- you have to beat the best to be the best. Anyone, any place, anytime if you want to be called champions. 8-)

Let's hope it's the Cats...

PSU is holding a press conference right now discussing the firing of JoPa.

Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Let me paraphrase this statement from the PSU administration for those not watching it:

"Our official position on the firing of Joe Paterno as head football coach is completely ambiguous and we will not discuss it at this time, so, in essence, this press conference is completely useless..."

Mr. Ypsi

si.com is posting that both JoePa and University President Spanier have been fired immediately.

Under the circumstances, I don't see how they could have done anything else.

Overall, both Paterno and Spanier (who greatly raised the academic profile of Penn St.) did far more good than evil, but this was just too horrendous to not sweep house.

Agree with their decision, but also agree that the press conference could not have gone much worse. :-\

Just listened to a quick news drop on some new movie with Naomi Watts.  Poor thing talked about the sacrifices she had to make in order to pocket that $10m check.  Apparently the kids had to stay behind with dad while she was on set filming.  Can you believe that?  Having to travel for weeks on end and leaving the kids behind?

Does anyone ever really feel any sympathy for these narcissistic Hollywood types?  I think I may never pay to watch a movie at the cinemas again.

Are you serious? (Not rhetorical, I can't tell if you are being sarcastic).  The difference, if you are being serious, is the 4 hour flight, hotel room, time zone change, etc... i.e. the not being on your home-field-in-your-home-state-with-your-home-fans factor.  Obviously you have to beat the best to be the best, but why'nthehell wouldn't you want to do it in the comforts of home rather than on the west coast?  To think it doesn't make a difference is, in a word, poppycock.

I don't know.  I played quite a few road playoff games and quite a few home playoff games.  There is something to be said for playing at home, but I really enjoyed the road games.  It kind of made things seem more special, and there are less distractions (just you and your teammates in a hotel).  Plus, if you're going to win it all, you're going to have to win on the road (i.e. Salem).

I have just never really bought into the "us against the world" road mentality.  I always thought that overnight road trips were the worst - you had to remember to pack all your personal stuff, you had to eat ****ty food, had to deal with the long flight/bus trip, you might get a roommate who snored.  Maybe I'm just soft or maybe its because I was a baseball player (and in baseball, the fields are different and definitely can give the home team an advantage); but I've always felt that the best way to win was to do as much as possible to shift the probabilities on differing factors in your favor, and I just don't see how going on the road, as opposed to staying home, helps do that.

Obviously I think every team would prefer home games. But, just as one example, Tom Linnemann has talked a lot about how the road games on the way to the 2000 Stagg Bowl were maybe the most enjoyable days of his life - the bonding, coming together as a team, just having fun traveling and seeing new places, etc.

There is no way in hell that Winefield, I mean Linfield is going to get a number one seed over St. Thomas.

Those were some awesome trips!  I have some fantastic memories (and stories) from that playoff run.

Why doesn't SJU just ask out Linfield already? You guys clearly like each other.
