I've made this same argument on this board for the past couple of years.  If a meaningless Hamline / SJU matchup on the last day of the season is getting almost 200 views...how many views would most SJU home games get?  200 views at even $5 a pop is another $1000...sounds good to me.

I'd make it more around $10-15 per game. That way it is still cheaper to attend the game and no one can make the "but it will hurt attendance" argument.
To take it a step further, they could reinvest those profits from the subscriptions into more and better equipment to step up the production value, so the webcast wouldn't be a wide-angle, single-camera feed that would be easiest to use for scouting purposes by opposing coaches. You could have several cameras that could provide close-up views of the action and atmosphere at the Natural Bowl. It would simultaneously increase the quality of the product for the subscriber, and make it more difficult for an opposing coach to scout if he's got to sift through images of fans, the stadium and the campus.

SJU has the means to make this happen, but I'm certain the opposition comes from the coaching staff.

Looks like Bench got his wish with UST and Delaware Valley in the same half of the bracket.

SUMMIT!!!!!

looks like geogrpahy was thrown to the wind....UST has a relatively smooth path to the semis, assuming they are top seed in their bracket

The bracket, for those who still haven't seen:

I think Del Val is the top seed in that bracket, but there aren't seeds yet.

Welcome aboard.

No better fuel for the fire than to feel disrespected. I never put too much value in the seeding process. There have been times where the Johnnies got the perceived short end of the stick when it came to the seeding process, and other times where they benefited from a miscalculation of justice.

It all plays out on the field.

That's how teams end up losing in the first round of the playoffs and although Scholastica is a first timer, their coach isn't.

It can't be about the money.  They would have surely offered a pay-per-view option by now if that was the case.  They're afraid of giving potential playoff opponents more game film to review.

I think that's a really dumb premise for them to follow.
It's not very difficult to get film on any game if you ask around.
Besides, the opponents would have to PAY to get that feed!
All this would do is make it a little easier for opponents to get their hands on the game tapes.
The trade off would be more exposure, and it could make recruiting easier.

For any playoff opponent to get film would violate conference bylaws or any non conference agreements.

I'm not going to deny that having film on your opponent helps a great deal, but the way some people argue, you'd think having streaming video of the game is a surefire way to destroy a football team. Were that true, Mount Union would have been the doormat of their conference long ago: "Mount Union broadcasts every home football game and select road games along with other athletic events on television on WIVM-TV 52 (Canton) and on regional cable sports network SportsTime Ohio." (http://athletics.mountunion.edu/multimedia/index)

My argument is that we are recruiting a generation of athletes that have never experienced the world without the internet and streaming video. Having more access to games and video highlight recaps of games is a great way to get in touch with them and show off other pieces of the university as part of the broadcast.
Your argument is best directed at the Johnnie administration.  Maybe if the Johnnies endure another 6-4 season, the silliness of their current policy will be revealed and they'll allow the broadcasts.

I'm going another direction: it's not letting too much video out that stops JG from allowing broadcasts, but a belief that J football is already too big.  The quality of the video would quickly become commercial and enthere would be commercials. And the stupid pizza ads over the loudspeakers are already bad enough.

Here's to old time football.

Woah... the bracket is not at all what I was expecting... who is the higher seed between UST and Delaware Valley?

Wow.  I never thought that negative reinforcement could push me to cheering for the Tommies, but this may do it.  Watch my head explode like in Scanners.

So give it away for free without commercials like every other team in the conference does?   Don't forget, Pat was prevented from doing a webcast of the Tommie/Johnnie game last year.

I concur w/ Dusty.  Tommies haven't really been challenged all season or had to play from behind.  It will be interesting to see how they respond if they get in a hole against somebody.  Coming off an a by week and blowout of Carleton could the Toms be ripe for an early exit?  Doubtful considering the level of St. Scholastica's competition during the season.

I'm betting UST gives the Saints a not so friendly welcome to the world of DIII playoffs. Caruso doesn't strike me as the type to overlook anyone at this point in the year.
