I'm torn.  For the sake of USTBench and MIACManic, I hope U$T can win at least one game, but I would also like to see U$T drop their first game to spite Dr. U$T Ph.D Mr. MIAC.  :-\

So I'll make a few points since the last few pages seem to have a lot to do with me rather than football:

1. Seeding for UST doesn't really matter much because unless there is some cosmic shift, they will likely get to the semifinals
2. A few folks on this board, mostly folks from SJU, mistake analysis for "sweeping generalizations." My general assessment is that this helps explain the lack of complex sentence structure amongst this crowd
3. I'm not sure how UST will do in the playoffs, but it is likely they'll make a championship run and face some tough competition from one of the other purple teams—maybe too much competition
4. Based on what I've just heard about the UST recruiting class for next year, they will likely be in good shape for some time to come
5. The MIAC has plenty of great schools and each fill their niche.  UST is not the best at everything, but it does have the best overall athletics program by far
6. I was talking to a guy at a party in DC recently and he grew up in MN.  He went to Princeton for undergrad, but when the UST/SJU football rivalry came up he had one memory of SJU.  In a word...rubes (and something a lot more harsh but inappropriate for this forum) .  Keep in mind that this is not my characterization and I think there are plenty of good hardworking, salt of the earth folks that come out of SJU.  They used to be really good at football...

Brilliance without Borders
I was talking to a buddy last night about his son's upcoming college choice.  The kid attends one of the two Catholic HS's here in the Canton, OH area.  Great student, and a really good football player.  Tight end/linebacker.....6'2".....215.  Has received a fair amount of interested from D-I's, but no solid offers as of yet.  He is not even sure he wants to play football at the D-I level, and is also considering a few D-III schools.  I asked him what their order of preference/consideration might be.

Notre Dame
Boston College
Dayton
John Carroll

I proceeded to ask him if he (or his son) had even heard of St. John's.  He immediately answered...."isn't that the team that beat Mount in the Stagg Bowl one year?"  I then asked him if he had even heard of St. Thomas.  He replied with a negative.

Mr. MIAC.....I share this story with you so you can report back to the powers that be at UST.  More work is needed to spread the brilliance my man.   ;)

AO,

Thanks for all the hard work involved in putting together the pickem's each week this season!

Fins,

There is no way you will 3-peat as pickem's champion!  How are your seats at Target Field?  I believe the last time we talked was at Huberts when the Twins were playing in the Metrodome!

Blasphemy! How can I not be the favorite for 2012 after my repeat, wire-to-wire 1st place finish? HA!
Seats are pretty good, just outside of the plate toward 1st base, section 110. Would've had a good view of Mauer's ass at the plate, but he wasn't there. Should be able to improve our lie a bit after some of the FWF's jump off the bandwagon.

And also props to AO for running the pick'ems board. Nice work!

OK, I'll show my ignorance. FWF's?

I count myself in that group when it comes to baseball...I enjoy watching baseball when the twins are doing well...otherwise I just can't quite stay fully engaged in keeping track of whats going on in MLB.

UST is not the best at everything

This made me laugh, such humility.  ::)

Mission accomplished.  Funny how others can take things lightly, while the bullying SJU old boys club takes everything so personally.

Well, there were a lot of SJU fans that had me torn over who to root for in the '03 National Championship. But I have to admit I did smile when Mike Zauhar took one to the house.

I know not everyone feels the same way, but it's more of MIAC thing for me at this point. Cheered for Bethel after they ground one out against us last year. That's just me I guess.

I'm with you, Bench. I was pulling for Keating & Co. in '03 & Bethel to beat Mt. Union last year (after the disappointment subsided). Any MIAC team's post season success is good for the conference regardless of who it is. I've questioned it before on this board and have come to the realization that it is just too painful for most Johns to watch The Tommies succeed. Can't say I get it, but knowing that it causes them agony makes it all the more enjoyable for me!

I think they're just upset that they don't get to make out with the Linfield fans.

I agree with Bench and Duffman....I am a Bethel fan first and a MIAC fan second.  Hope to see St. Thomas go all the way and in the process, knock off Linfield (in the Stagg]....even though I am living near Tacoma and in the backyard of the Northwest Conference.

I am sure there will not be a 97% renewal on Twins Season tickets this upcoming season.  I did see the Twins signed a shortstop who is 37 years old.  His name is Jamey Carrol!  I follow baseball quite closely and have never heard of him.  This move pretty much sends Yoshi back to Japan with millions of dollars in his pockets courtesy of the MN Twins!  Thank you Bill Smith!

Cobberfan,

Nishi could go the way of Kei Igwa (Yankees Japanese bust) and sit in the minors for half a decade collecting 4/5 million a year. Although I believe he only has 2 years left on his contract.
