Just Don't Call Him Coach (Sports Illustrated 11/21/11)

Are you from the future?

No, but I got in the DeLorean earlier with Dr. Brown so I could get an advance peek at the write up.

SI always puts the issue date of the hard copy magazine on their articles.  And for some reason, that date is always in the future.  I'll get the paper version in the mail today or tomorrow, with an 11/21/11 date.

I would have thought a smart guy from Carlton would know that.  Must be embarassing to you that an SJU rube had to explain this.   ;)

Wesleyan.  MWC is weak.

Deep. My attempt at sparking football conversation has clearly failed.

IWU had to get out of a conference with Wheaton and NCC. NCC whooped them pretty good, but I still think the CCIW is a much stronger conference top to bottom than the MWC. Monmouth's one loss came early against Wartburg, and from what I can tell, the IIAC is down this year.

Will anyone be in the Tommie stands come Saturday or will most "elite" coast UST types, as Mr. MIAC intends to do, wait to make the short drive drive to Salem?   :P

I agree with Bench and Duffman....

Since Bench and I have opposing views, I don't think you do.  ;)

I realize that I am in the minority here.  Oh well.
Do Wayzata fans pull for Hopkins in the state basketball tournament every year?  Do Hopkins fans pull for EP or Wayzata in the state football championship every damn year?
Call my selfish but I won't cheer for UST, BU or any other MIAC school in the playoffs.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
This Wayzata fan likes watching Hopkins play basketball.  Wayzata and EP fans know best about dealing with people who make BS recruiting/cheating complaints.

The friendly rivalries do not extend to D-1 football or the NFL.  Too many bridges have been burned on the eastern border.

So how did a kid from Coon Rapids end up on the Wayzata Football team this fall?  I'm sure there was a legit reason.
And how 'bout the two bookend offensive linemen that moved into Eden Prairie (they're also going to be post players for the basketball team)?  Yes I know their dad's are coaches for the Vikings..and why wouldn't a coach send his kid to EP.
Because he wanted to play for Wayzata.  His mom works at the lifetime in Plymouth, and they made a family decision to move.  There is no recruiting being done by Wayzata/EP/Hopkins.  You can advocate that silly rules be made up to punish kids with a season off if they move, but if high school sports are about the kids, you should recognize that Antonio not only moved into a school where he'd be more likely to earn a scholarship, but he also transferred to a school with a better academic reputation.

--As for the EP linemen, you can probably count out Davidson from being a basketball post for EP as he broke his leg in the quarterfinals against Anoka last Friday.

You've kind of proven my point...kids (and parents) go where their kids have an opportunity for success.  I just find it funny that when a kid transfers to Hopkins it's more than implied that they were "recruited."  However when kids transfer into other schools around the state it's assumed they had valid reasons for doing so (Dad's job got transferred, better academic or athletic opportunities etc...).

A few years back Hopkins had about 12 district kids playing in state hockey tournament yet our own high school team barely won a handful of games.  A bunch transferred out including two HHS kids that went up to Warroad to play hockey (I'm told they were also pretty good baseball players as well).
In recent years we've had kids on the football team at EP and Minnetonka in that would have surely helped our team.

There still needs to be rules to regulate transfers...even if they don't get enforced.

I'll be crossing my fingers that they make it past round 2, then I will make the drive to St. Paul for Round 3. IF, they get that far.

Getting married, Christmas coming up, 4.5 hour drive from GF...that whole thing.

Wimp! ;D ;D

But you are saved - IWU plans to not let you get to round three. ;)

(If forced to bet with money on the line, I'd take UST at home over IWU, but fortunately I'm just a fan(atic). ;D)
