Skunks_Sidekick....

"I am still not sure how they lost to Bethel last year....."

The following statistics should help explain how St. Thomas lost to Bethel last year.

             Bethel St.Thomas
FIRST DOWNS...................           20        8
NET YARDS RUSHING.............       277      166
NET YARDS PASSING.............       26       54
TOTAL OFFENSE YARDS...........      303      220
Penalties: Number-Yards.......       4-26     7-77
PUNTS-YARDS...................        4-131    6-230
Possession Time...............          32:37    27:23
Third-Down Conversions........    5 of 13  3 of 14
Fourth-Down Conversions.......   2 of 3   2 of 5
Red-Zone Scores-Chances.......      2-4      1-1

Scoreboard always has the final say.  it seemed like UST was becoming a potential "purple power" last year, and I was making the point that IF they were actually that good, they would not have lost to your beloved Bethel.

We will see this year if UST has learned from previous efforts, and taken the next step.

Fritz Waldvogel getting injured in the first few minutes of the game probably didn't help.

First, loved Bennie's post...lots of seemingly original stuff that cracked me up.

Second, I won't pretend to know the strength of non-MIAC teams in the playoffs--some of the teams' historical status, yes, but I don't look outside the conference much during the year. That being said, St. Thomas made pies out of what I felt were a bunch of fine teams in the upper tier of the MIAC this year. It is hard for me to envision any of the other teams in their playoff bracket keeping up with them.

Third, I'll be wearing my purple St. Thomas sweatshirt this Saturday (I'll also be changing the oil on the snowblower and greasing the garage door tracks).

Fourth, the Tommie sweatshirt I own was given to me as a gag gift by a Johnnie.

I couldn't agree more.  Waldvogel has been outstanding in his career at St. Thomas!

Here's hoping St. Thomas goes all the way, beating Linfield in the Stagg...as I wrote earlier.

The 12:45 game will feature U of M recruit Philip Nelson.  Wonder if the SJU coaching staff will be down at the dome checking out potential players...IMO they should be.

The very tall WR / DE for Edgerton / Ellsworth, Casey Schilling, is the brother of Cody Schilling (holds state basketball record for scoring).
Sidenote...google map Edgerton and Ellsworth...they are over 35 miles apart and it's about a 50 minute drive.  Adrian is only 10 minutes away from Ellsworth but for some reason the two schools are not in a joint venture in football.  Imagine the cost of driving 70 miles a day for practices...seems kind of insane to me there are schools that are closer.

In Bench's defense, historically Toms have not had to be concerned about Saturday scheduling conflicts after the regular season has concluded.  ;) 8-)

Growing up as a small town, southern Minnesotan who had his share of tilts against Adrian, my guess is Adrian didn't want them.  Adrian is a weird, weird place, in my opinion.  Very high on its sports programs, crazily so; for example, there are stories of Adrian parents holding their kids back from kindergarden so that they will be more developed by the time they are high school juniors and seniors than kids from sorrounding towns.

E/E up big but still coming w/ the cheap stuff.
I'm told that Hills Beaver Creek and Ellsworth were combined for football but they cut Ellsworth loose about 3 years ago because they would have bumped them up into Class A...kind of lame.  :-[  I heard that Adrian didn't want Ellsworth either...nothing like help out your fellow man.  At the same time maybe a school with only 65 kids in the high school should look at consolidating.

"I'm a uniter...not a divider."

tommiegun

They probably should look at consolidating but most towns, I think, try to hold off on that as long as possible because once the school is gone any hope of even a sustained population in the town goes with it.

Cobbernation,

Not getting married tomorrow, just have to pocket some moola so I can pay for the big day. Apparently the aesthetics of the local VFW aren't good enough for her highness. Sheez.

ROR,

I've had many scheduling conflicts on Saturdays after our regular season would end. For instance, one year my teammates and I had the tough decision of whether we should drink at a Gophers game all day, or whether we should drink at a pig roast all day. Cooler heads prevailed and we managed to do both.

Looks like snow and sleet tomorrow during the game.  Anyone think that the weather will be an advantage for CSS?  Normally, I feel like crappy weather favors the less talented team.  But in this case it seems like Scholastica runs a spread, air it out kind of offense that will be slowed by the slush.  Since almost no one has really been able to get a ground game going against UST this season, I think the wintery conditions might only hinder whatever chance Scholastica had to win this one.
