The 12:45 game will feature U of M recruit Philip Nelson.  Wonder if the SJU coaching staff will be down at the dome checking out potential players...IMO they should be.

Damn, I hate it when I do that.  Fingers are sometimes faster than brain.
Anybody watching the Class A semi-final between Sleepy-Eye St. Mary's and Mahnomen?  I love the Mahnomen uniforms...old school Redskins look.  I think they've had this style for over 30 years.  Gotta love a team nicknamed Indians that has a Tight End named Littlewolf.

In there case, the nickname is accurate.

Sorry ROR, SJU guys have been real hard on the UST guys about grammar. I wouldn't do it normally, but a precedent has been set.

*their

Mahnomen is up in my neck of the woods. As with most reservation schools they're not really known for their football prowess, so this is kind of a change. It's a different set up there though, the reservation has a sort of dual-jurisdiction thing going on.

Damn, I hate it when I do taht.  Sometimes fingesr are fastr than brian.

Adrian and Ellsworth have been paired in some sports. I want to say it was football for a brief time. But definitely wrestling at some point. Adrian requires that any town it pairs with have at least 100 Bullermans, so Ellsworth didn't qualify.

And... yep... my ability to do work today's Time of Death is 9:00 am.  Phone it in.

The very tall WR / DE for Edgerton / Ellsworth, Casey Schilling, is the brother of Cody Schilling (holds state basketball record for scoring).
Sidenote...google map Edgerton and Ellsworth...they are over 35 miles apart and it's about a 50 minute drive.  Adrian is only 10 minutes away from Ellsworth but for some reason the two schools are not in a joint venture in football.  Imagine the cost of driving 70 miles a day for practices...seems kind of insane to me there are schools that are closer.

Growing up as a small town, southern Minnesotan who had his share of tilts against Adrian, my guess is Adrian didn't want them.  Adrian is a weird, weird place, in my opinion.  Very high on its sports programs, crazily so; for example, there are stories of Adrian parents holding their kids back from kindergarden so that they will be more developed by the time they are high school juniors and seniors than kids from sorrounding towns.

I think that is done in everywhere else, USA too.  ;D It is either to make sure your son or daughter is seen by top programs in various sports or due to the lack of talent in a specific area.

SUMMIT!!!!!

actually, Mahnommen was a bit of a football powerhouse in the not so distant past. I think they have the most state all-time championships or at least in the top 3-4, but it has been a while since they won one.

Stephen-Argyle has been the talk of the region for the last decade. Otherwise, if EGF makes state in Minnesota or one of the GF schools in Nodak it's all people talk about.

Having played in the now defunct Southwest Ridge conference against both Edgerton and Hills-Beaver Creek/Ellsworth, I would be willing to bet that their first choice was to hang on individually. When that option was no longer viable, they looked to go together to try to keep the conference together and still play 9-man ball. There's a certain amount of pride that comes with playing 9-man and for the players and the coaches keeping that tradition was as important as managing the costs. I have a former coach who talks about playing 8-man in SD...even I think that looks just a little bit off.

Yeah, Mahnomen is one of the all-time dynasties in the state for football. I think they have the second-most victories in state history (Cambridge-Isanti might be No. 1), one of the longest winning streaks ever. Six state titles, last one in 1998, which isn't that long ago. Saying they're not known for their football prowess is like saying SJU isn't known for its football prowess because of the 6-4 record.

Bemidji killed Mankato West today, pretty shocking. Although it looked Nelson had his typical monstrous game.

Speaking of football powers, in the mid90s West might have had the worst program in the state. Went winless several years, would barely score any points (Hamline like). In '99 I covered their section title game against Worthington and that was their first dominant team. Since then, an unreal run.

Hated the f'ing Bluejackets back in the days of the great ol' Rum River Conference. They were richer, smug and superior.... and it at least it prepped me nicely for the rivalries at Collegeville. Heck of a program though,.even without the hyphenated Isanti, which then was nothing more than a dairy and a charcoal plant.

That Woods kid for Bemidji tore it up...today was the first I'd heard of him.

Gotta love the pep bands at halftime.  Moose Lake-Willow River playing 25 or 6 to 4 and the Waterville-Elysian-Morristown band absolutely butchering Thriller...F-ing brutal  :o

Great webcast,  though. Glad I had the sound off. No doubt "Hawaii 5-0" is next.

"The Final Countdown" and "Tequila" better be in there as well. Most high school bands haven't altered their song rotation since 1989.

On Twitter people were wondering if Bemidji's Woods was playing college anywhere. Is he a receiver (ahem...Johnnies)? In basketball he scored 50 in a game last year.

I think it was 52 points in a 30 point route...word is that North Dakota has offered.
I'm listening for the Hogan's Heros Theme....25 or 6 to 4 has always been one of my favs!!!

It's pretty good...recognizing that the camera work is done by high school students.  They've missed a lot, especially on pass and play action plays.  I guess that's what happens when kids are operating cameras and don't really understand the game.  As I type this Andrew Larson for EP just ran for 26 yards and I only saw about the first half of it.
