Tommies will host Monmouth in Rd 2.

Interesting matchup. A guy as talented and as experienced as Tanney can be dangerous this time of year. A definite test for the Tommie secondary. Their corners should be fine, but their safeties aren't near what they were last year. The real question is whether Tanney will have enough time. IWU got a lot of pressure on him today.

Monmouth's D will have a lot tougher task next week than they did today. IWU QB had 5 turnovers by himself today (one a fumble going in to score in the 3rd OT).

The Tommies will be the strong favorite (your offense is much more versatile than IWU's, minus Stinde), but Tanney is perfectly capable of pulling a Chad Rupp on you!  I honestly do not know how IWU and STU defenses compare; we severely slowed him, you may flat-out stop him or get burned by him.  Good luck (though for family reasons, I'll be rooting for Monmouth to pull the upset).

UST has a stellar defense. Shutting down the run and keeping teams from scoring are their dominant areas. Their pass D and pass D efficiency are good as well, but the former categories are where they shine. Which is really what makes this an interesting matchup. The strength of Monmouth's offense (passing) will be going against the 'relative weakness' of the Tommie D. Then again, CSS was supposed to have a pretty stellar QB and pass offense as well. That didn't pan out today. But Tanney's a different animal than the other elite QB's in DIII.

Weather like they had today would spell doom for Monmouth and their offense.

Forecast early next week calling for sun and warmer temps (40's-50's)...kind of figured that as St. Paul Public Works didn't have any salt/sand trucks out today...saving money for later in the season.  Extended forecast is for some precipitation and 41 on Saturday...that's a long way out...who knows what the weather will be?

Rest assured Tommie fans, Columbia wins their first game today vs Brown.

No reason to change a good thing.  UST is safe for another season.

congrats to St Thomas' Ben Sathre on winning the individual champiionship!  He is just th second UST runner to win the title and the 2nd MIAC runner to ever win it (Carleton had a 2-time winner in the 1970s when it was not an MIAC member)

Congratulations on the individual cross-country championship.  Dale Kramer ('76-'77) was the national champion and Carleton won the team championship in 1980.

I went to the UWW/Abion game today. The scoreboard at Perkins Stadium posts the yardage each team has accumulated.

After UWW went up 21 - 0 early in the game, I noticed that the scoreboard had an interesting stat line.

                                                   UWW            ALBION
RUSHING YARDS                                13                          -1
PASSING YARDS                                11                           0
TOTAL YARDS                                   24                          -1

That's what happens when you get 2 INT's and 1 fumble in Albion's first 7 offensive plays inside their own 15. Your post listed stats for just the first 2 UWW "drives." The 3 drives went 4 plays - 11 yds TOP 2:04, 2 - 13 TOP :25, & 2 - 15 TOP :43.  So, for the sake of accuracy, the correct stats for the 3 UWW "drives" were 7 rushes - 28 yards; 1 pass - 11 yards = 39 yards. Three possessions for Albion: Passing 0 yards; rushing -6.

we beat Monmouth in 2009, and we should not have a problem doing it again next Saturday

Thanks for elaborating Bo Bo. The first few minutes were a complete disaster for Albion. Visually, they looked as big, if not bigger, than the Warhawks, and were seemingly athletic. UWW made the big plays early, and, even though Albion settled in, and played much better, it was a mismatch from the opening kickoff.

As an aside, you guys need to get off the cannon  pout. It's as if you need to feel put upon. Firing the cannon has no effect on the outcome of the game.

Congrats to the Toms on the win in the winter wonderland.
I see they added black pants to the uniform mix.

Any chance we will be seeing Nike Pro Combat textured purple helmets or the gloves with the logos on the palms of the hands before the national quarterfinals?
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

ROCORI and Bemidji playing for the 4A state title next weekend.  Nice to see some out-state representation in the upper divisions (even if it's not Sartell)!

And how about them Gopher wrestlers?  Lost one to #5 ranked Cornell on Friday, but they came back today to beat defending national champ and #2 ranked Penn State 23-14.  They're looking tough again this year!

Any MIAC team that chooses to wear that Nike or Under Armour Combat crap should be kicked out of the league.  That stuff is hideous.  The fact the Tommies have about 6 different uniform options is a bit annoying (IMO).  That said I can see where one would think the Toms might go w/ the Combat look.
I guess I'm kind of old school and believe that a team should have one home and one road uniform.  I've always liked teams that stick with one look.

Jerry Sandusky only raped children who couldn't fight back.  I doubt he would take on college wrestlers.  After all, he is now 67 and an obvious cowardly loser. >:(
