Dlip (2 syllables)  I understand your attempt at being reasonable with a couple of these posters who think the acronym for St. Thomas is MUC...but really, as far as I can tell, the Tommies have no play-off accomplishments to speak of.  They had the North #1 last year and fell flat on their asses.

They have compiled their undefeated record the same way DVC and John hopkins did....by wasting mediocre at best competition.  SJF will be the best team they face to date.....
I tend to agree with the top 25 pollsters that ranked Bethel and St. Olaf equal or above St. John Fisher.  Would Fisher be favored to win at River Falls, SJU, Concordia or even St. Norbert?

What PC said....
Please note that PC didn't address whether Bethel or St. Olaf were superior to St. John Fisher.  Please tell us why your squad is better than those teams despite Fisher having less talent, size and speed.

Hey Tommie fans, a St. John Fisher alum and fan here.  It looks as though you have a hell of a program out there.  What can we expect to see next SatErday?

Just wanted to say, things seem quite cool now and dlip is enjoying his time on this board. Can the negative karma attacks stop? dlip lost some, and rightfully so, but now would like to stop losing it because he has regained his composure. :)

A valid point UST and your 3-6 top tier teams question is a good one. If dlip gets a minute here at work today he'll take a shot. He agrees with 91, that Fisher is not in that group for sure. maybe they will be someday, but not yet.

Easy there dlip, there were some folks that put out the boo-boo lip when they got hit with negative karma and this entire board had a very high decibel conversation over how much no one cared about +/-K on the board.

Ok... it seems that things have settled down 'round here.  I confess I know absolutely nothing about St. John Fisher other than that I correctly picked them to be playing in this game.  ::) In generals, what type of team is UST facing this weekend at Palmer Field?  Do you guys throw (I assume not very much with a 3rd string quarterback)? Is your 1st string guy gonna be back at qb (there was some discussion of him playing "slasher"; does that mean he's playing "Ray Lewis?")?

More importantly, what is your defense like?  There are repeated comments that UST will throw 4 picks...  Is your run defense stout?  Will UST be forced to throw?  While I'm obviously biased, I think UST could have beat Monmouth without throwing four times, let alone being in a situation where they'd throw four picks... will SJF's defensive strength (which appears to be air takeaways based on the SJF posters comments) even come into play?

Next, has SJF played any weather games this year?  If so, how did they do?  If not, is the team built to succeed in a weather game? (FYI: Weather report for Saturday is 35 and light snow)

Finally, who is St. John Fisher?

Thank you.

I had the same question and thought (based on some of the SJF fans' posts) that he was the patron saint of the Fischer Nut Company, or at least was fisherman who specialized in catching un-keepable perch or bullheads.

But no....he was a martyr who defied Henry VIII

The football team of the college named after him will be flying to MN for loss #3 this weekend. Hopefully some of their fans show up. They will be running into a defense that has shut down two of the most prolific QBs in D3 this year, including one who is, arguably amd statisically, one of the all-time greatest in D3 (Tanney).  Also, the run defense limited Monmouth to 4 yards rushing and Scholastica to 14-- thats 28 total yards in 2 playoff games! I think its safe to say that Defense will be UST's calling card this weekend.

Gotta love that truly MN weather forecast!

dlip believes this is a very true statement 82. Again, dlip feels, because there has been no "national powerhouse/elite" program from the east in many years the perception towards the east is poor. On top of this, with an Eastern team always having had to go through MUC just to get the to semi's (with the exception of this year and the year SJF gave MUC a very tough game in the semi's), many from other regions may not feel we have merit. To dlip this is not the case.

Yeah, the past six years have been a rare situation in any sport, but as  a guy who saw his first d3 game as a HS sophomore in 1970, I've seen a lot of changes and take a longer view.

I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong, but it's been four years straight that MUC stopped an East team from the semis. And East backers have a right to point the finger West, because it's been the depth behind UWW that has forced the shift.

While looking back past the current purple monopoly, the stretch since the last Ithaca title to 2005 was when the West's best run with four non-UWW teams winning five titles (and MUC still was dominant.) All this, of course, has nothing to do with Saturday's matchup ... which I truly hope we see the best from both teams. I've taken hits on other boards (some deserved, other not) for being more of an East basher when I was sticking up for a region and a conference.

I have a sense (and the Wesley win is an example) that there's more balance out there underneath the big two. SJF could make a statement on Saturday. Props to the NCAA for setting up a bracket that's produced some great games.

Too much history for most here. I think Bench has steered the discussion in the most relevant direction.

I have been looking for the book that factually states which teams have more talent, size, and speed than others.  Thank you for finding it!  The one thing out of that mindless post you can actually accurately measure is size.  I don't know if you've ever seen Fisher but the one thing they are not is small.  So here are the lines of their team if you were wondering.

O-Line:

6-4 310
6-5 300
6-3 265
6-3 295
6-1 275

D-Line:

6-6 325
6-3 280
6-0 260
6-5 245

I've never seen a team dwarf Fisher and I've never seen a team that has physically pushed them around...ever.  That includes Mount Union.  The games in which Fisher has given up big yards on the ground in the past have come against gimmick offenses like Salisbury and Springfield that use deception to gain yards and the year that Nate Kmic of Mount Union decided he didn't like being tackled anymore.  It took a lot to bring that man down, it wasn't due to line domination.  Our offense did produce the first and I believe only 100 yard rusher against Mount Union that year however - when other teams were only averaging a little over a yard per carry against them.  Sounds familiar doesn't it?
