soooo, are you suggesting this has been discussed before?

Many times.  UST has averaged 3872 this year, boosted by 10421 for the SJU game.

ad nauseum

ha, who knew that 82 would predict a 2 TD victory against the storied Tommies program and the only backlash from the post would be about attendance...

....if that's the case....SJF by 40

so are they mostly student fans, alum or parents....enthusiastic crowd....?  ;D

For some background, SJU fans like to give UST fans a hard time cause they only average ~3500 fans, compared to ~8000 for SJU.

UST has averaged 2,331 in their last four playoff games with the largest being a crowd of 3,700 for last year's quarterfinal vs. Bethel (UST's neighbor 10 miles north on Snelling Ave.)

ROR: Are you really gonna sit in some VIP suite with MIACManiac?

Oz: Who wins a fist fight, Allenby or Ogilvy?  Love the juicy sideshow from the Hyatt Coolum...

I gotta go with Ogilvy as he frequently carries a mo'.  Automatic victory for the 'stach.

As an aside, I've probably let my inner snoopdawg out before on this, but when I first came to Oz I sat next to Geoff Ogilvy's dad, Mike, for two years.  At the time Geoff was about 17 and his dad kept telling me that his kid would be one of the best golf players in the world.  "Sure, Mike, sure," I would always say.  Odds are Mike remembers far less about those conversations than I do.

Good thing this game isn't being played at St. John Fisher if we're concerned about attendance.  2424 average this season with their last home playoff game in 2007 drawing only 1124.

SagatagSam

I think we MIAC folks forget how fortunate we are as a conference when it comes to attendance. There are a lot of D3 conferences that would be thrilled about averaging 2,000 fans per game.

Attendance?  We are talking attendance again??????

Don't you all realize that UST has fans/alumns/donors/groupies/significant politicians (mainly DC insiders)/East coast supporters/and all folks in awe of "brilliance without borders" that can't run nilly=willy to a UST game, but still support the school in all its brilliance?   ;)

UST SPITS on attendance!

Duff....you KNOW you can wear purple to the game.  And it will be the most righteous purple!   8-)

I know I'm horrible at math, but how does this starting O-line from the Del Valley game average 289lbs?

By my math its 307.

...but not before pointing out how much money the university made in its last capital campaign.

Even going into the playoffs, St. John Fisher and St. Olaf had the same number of votes. If we held a ballot today, no doubt SJF would be well ahead of St. Olaf and Bethel.

But if SJF loses big on Saturday, I'll go out and say there is no way they should end up above Bethel. 3 blow out losses...just sayin'

but all that to say, who really cares where you finish the season ranked unless it is #1. I guess ending up #4 is better than unranked, but it's still a bitter pill, imo

Perhaps. Then you have to really dive Johns Hopkins and Delaware Valley to compensate. Now, that might not be impossible, but just saying.

As a non-profit UST doesn't make money on capital campaigns.  It simply provides a vehicle (a campaign) through which individual donors can invest in the leaders of tomorrow.  Pointing out UST's fundraising successes is just a way of highlighting the degree to which generous donors promote excellence and support the flourishing of our society.

Attendance numbers are great and all, but if given the choice I'd take the $500 million to help build pillars of society.  Of course football can be part of the process (and it increasingly is at UST), but in my view it shouldn't necessarily take center stage.  However, at some other institutions this is clearly the case...at least it would seem so based on the attendance figures...

Ok.  Sanity returns.  The previous chuckle was an aberration.  Go SJF!

(Does AO have two accounts?)

EDIT: As an afterthought, should someone point out to Mr. MIAC that the top MIAC position in the DC cocktail circuit is filled by a Johnnie?  Additionally, the United States ambassador to the Vatican is also a Johnnie.  Pillars of society and all that.
