Our guy is a big time homer.

You've got to have a guy that's at least a little bit of a homer. Most great sports calls were called by guys with a little "homer" in 'em:
Al Michaels "It's a miracle!"
Joe Starkey calling the Stanford Band play
Russ Hodges calling Bobby Thompson's Shot Heard 'Round the World home run in the 1951 World Series
Dan Davis calling Doug Flutie's hail mary
Johnny Most calling Havlicek and Bird's legendary steals in the '65 and '87 Eastern Conference Finals

....and, most importantly, Paul Allen screaming, "NO! NO! The Cardinals have knocked the Vikings out of the playoffs!" on December 28, 2003.

Dave Lee is so.... antiseptic... I'm not sure how else to put it. He makes it sound like he's describing a root canal.
Sing us a song, you're the piano man

Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Since it was brought up, has Duff been hillbilly hand-fishing yet?

That's highly unlikely,Duff appears the have all of his teeth  ;)

I have two tickets to Minnesota versus Virginia Tech for tonight.  8:15 tip off.  Good seats.  No charge.  Any Tommies interested will only be required to kiss my ring.  PM me if you are interested.  I'll be in St. Paul by about 6pm, can meet to pickup anytime after that.

I'll just say that I've been listening to the KQ Morning Show podcast for too long not to laugh like a teenager when I read that.

It's actually illegal in most states (MN included), but even if it were legal here, you wouldn't catch me doing it!  There are way too many muskrats, turtles, etc. for me!!!

A tradition unrivaled...

2115 Summit

First Time poster here.....

I must say that reading this board over the last three years have really entertained me while at work.  The amount of postings over this week seems to have picked up and thought it would be fun to join in!!  So Hello Everyone! :)

PC:
You have done very well with the Monday morning podcast and a great job with D3football.com.  Thanks for your efforts!

I don't get the dissatisfaction with Dave Lee. From hearing you guys complain early in the season I thought I was in for a long day the first time I was at UST this season but he calls the game just fine. Just another case of complaining about everything Tommie?

Nope.  Didn't like him on Gopher football either.  I find his basketball broadcasting to be ok.  I also listen to him in the morning on my drive to work.  I don't really consider him to be "Tommie" in his first year of calling the games.

Whatever the opposite of "growing on you" is, that's what Dave Lee does.  At first he seems just fine.  But the more you listen to him, the more you dislike the way he calls a game.  I also have nothing against being a homer.  Our guy is a big time homer.  And I love him for it.

I also like the video broadcast of the games.  May not be ESPN quality, but it certainly adds to the enjoyment of the game.  I appreciate that.  To beat a dead horse again, I wish SJU would do it.

p.s.  I know at least one exceptional graduate of St. Thomas.  Probably have to up that to two when she inevitably marries her Tommie boyfriend.

So be it, but his daughter is a UST undergraduate.  Somehow I see him being involved for some time to come.

Welcome.  Just to let you know with "2115 Summit" you are indicating an affiliation with UST (which may or may not be the case).  Get ready for all hell to break loose if you say anything mildly provocative, especially if it in any way can be construed as a slight against a MIAC team that has recently experienced an "off season."  Also, you better present yourself as unsophisticated and dirt poor because any sign of success or social status will be responded to with references to "cake eaters" attending fancy cocktail parties. Just an FYI...

I also suggest you clean the siren on your WAAAAAaaaaaambulance.

(And welcome.  What an amazingly gracious entry to the boards. Well done.)

I'm surprised Pat hasn't popped in with the official ruling on why GPA is not included on the resume for the Gagliardi Trophy...

*crickets*

Been a busy day. The Gagliardi Trophy voting committee gets access to the GPAs. Perhaps the J-Club didn't want to disseminate that to the 20,000 or so who will vote online this week.

Perhaps I, as a J-Club member, should ask the leadership why this is so...

I don't know if that's such a big deal but if you feel like raising the subject, perhaps they might want a Division III football person to help them whittle down their full list of nominees to 10 finalists every year.

I believe his first post beat the heck out of yours.

2115 -- welcome to the board.

First, and most importantly, welcome to the board, Summit.

Second, I think Summit will be just fine because he chose not to establish himself as a bloviating, pseudo-intellectual elitist on his very first post. (by the way, +K to you for that, Summit)

Third, I have no sympathy for you, Mr. MIAC, when you came onto this board looking for a fight and then began weaving an endless tale of ignorant woe about it when you found one.

Fourth, Summit, if you're going to take advice from a Tommie on this board, I'd recommend USTBench. He's a great dude when he's not swindling your prized cow cup away from you at a tailgate party... ( ;) inside joke.)

Lastly, welcome to the board once again, Summit.

Dittos to what has been said 2115. Pardon the condescension of one poster who obviously missed the part about reading, and being entertained over the last THREE YEARS. I would have assumed from that, that you are well aware of the ethos here.

Retired Old Rat

2115, let me add my welcome as well.  Always, well almsot always, good to have new blood and perspectives.  I assume that after observing the knuckleheads on here, myself included, you can handle the give and take.

Placing my pseudo-intellect aside, I think I'm actually starting to feel a bond with you guys (not to get too sensitive).   Nothing is personal.  Sometimes, when it's all mostly in jest, it's okay to be a target because the back and forth builds a perverse sense of esprit de corps.  It would be far less interesting if we all agreed or didn't try to stir the pot occasionally (or often when it comes to SJU).   Perhaps for me the best part is that I've met no one on this board in person, but I look forward to hearing from the personalities each day when logging on.  Not that I'll forgo an occasional fight...it wouldn't be in my nature...
