I need Whitewater specific ammo. So far I know they've turned out a lot of NFL players for a D3 school and they got the good Belushi.

Getting psyched out. I am sure that the WW posters will correct me (Spock), but I don't remember a WW guy in the NFL. (Ducking buckshot).

LAX has placed a couple, Stout has had a couple, Stevens Point had a nice NBA guy. UST will not be playing the Packers.  WW is a very good D3 football team to be sure. It would seem the Tommies are as well.

I watched SJU beat MUC. That SJU team was not psyched out by the opponent.

There have been a few. Most recent is Derek Stanley who made the Chiefs squad and played a some on special teams but he blew his ACL after and was let go after 3 seasons.   Surprised you didn't remember Derek, BDB.  Pretty sure your Blue Devil defense during his tenure at UWW does.   ;)

I knew I was wrong. That's why I've been ducking the buckshot just like 30 0dd 6 shots flying by my head during deer season. Harvest them bad boys. I'm sick of those bucks in my way as I go 75 mph on my merry way to hockey. MIAC guys, footballfan413 is the bomb.

I'll get you started, Tommies:

Top 10 reasons the NCAA banned The Cannon at The Perk during playoffs:

10. The NCAA are tired of being told that Warhawks boosters lost their matches... again.
9. Because UWW responded to initial complaints by declaring all fans had to use Kodak.
8. The NCAA wouldn't let cannon shooters shoot cannons at Scott Walker's crazy low prices.
7. The argument that the grape shot was left over from duck season just wouldn't fly.
6. ...

6. Cannon Ball Hits Home

5. Every time the Cannon goes off the UWW bench stampedes like a herd of cattle and the NCAA won't cover the liability insurance.

4. The bad publicity from all the Wiscy women yelling "Cheers!" after every score because they thought the cork had just popped on a giant bottle of Boones Farm was too much to take.

3. Whitewater declared war on Tomah, and the Mayor of Wisconsin Dells thought it would be bad for business.
2. The NCAA determined the cannon to be insensitive as the brutal war between the city of whitewater and their local hawk population (obviously the reason behind the nickname "warhawk") was just a few years ago.

2115 Summit

Well.  The car has been rented.  Will be making the trip to Whitewater early Sat. Morning with the Sis.  Any Hawks know where we can find good tailgating or a bar to enjoy a few before the game?  Also, since no one wants to enjoy some smack talk, back to beer.

I am enjoying a Dry Hopped Pale Ale by Founders Brewing.  Very good for those who like the taste of Ale beer.

2115 Summit

For thos who cannot make the game in the cities.  ESPN 360 is picked up by BDubs as apart of there espn sporting package and can get the game.  So if you cannot make it this might be an option.

A.O. covered this a couple posts above-the NCAA "sensitivity police" - the same reason why Bench's UND Fighting Sioux will no longer be the Fighting Sioux. Which,in my opinion, is completely ridiculous as there are Seminoles, Fighting Illini and Ute still able to keep their nicknames.

On your tailgating question- there is plenty of room outside the stadium (parking lot) for tailgating. There are also port-a-potties  :D
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

There will be a large contingent at a Tommite tailgate in Lot 11. UST flags should guide your way.

I guess I get that. My Devils play WW every year. They are not superhuman. They are very good. And I think what makes them very good this time of year is that they are deeper in talent than most.

One of the questions I ask the players at our booster club luncheons is "who do you like to play the most?" Whitewater has been the answer for 7 years now.

They are very good, obviously. But so is UST, obviously. If UST gets freaked out by the Perk and the crowd, they are toast. They need to remember that they are not in Madison. It's still D3 football.

This is probably especially true of this team, at least defensively.  I remember Coach Leipold saying a couple of weeks ago that 22 players have regular rotations (that HAS to include the starters, so I'm thinking 11 other guys) throughout the game on defense. This is without regard to score or situation.  I think the bulk of the substitutions are in the front 7 (especially the D-line). I know the 3 and 4 corners get regular rotations as well.  It makes for very fresh legs at this time of year and a deep team with the young guys having lots of experience by now.  I know past teams did a lot of rotating, but I don't know if has been with these kinds of numbers.  It's probably a luxury as a result of the type of athlete UW-W now draws to it's program.

Here's a nice write-up on UST in the Associated Press.  My favorite Glenn Caruso quote:

"St. Thomas as an institution is making a pretty sound commitment to excellence in whatever area they choose," Caruso said, "and we don't feel like we have to be apologetic about striving for that excellence."

A.O. covered this a couple posts above-the NCAA "sensitivity police" - the same reason why Bench's UND Fighting Sioux will no longer be the Fighting Sioux. Which,in my opinion, is completely ridiculous as there are Seminoles, Fighting Illini and Ute still able to keep their nicknames.

On your tailgating question- there is plenty of room outside the stadium (parking lot) for tailgating. There are also port-a-potties  :D

It was all predicated on "tribal approval" here in Nodak. Spirit Lake allowed a referendum in which the tribe overwhelmingly voted in favor of the name. Standing Rock's tribal council is uber politically correct and instead of allowing a referendum, chose to not put it to a vote, thus, in the NCAA's eyes, UND did not get tribal approval. Then our state legislature decided to "make it a law" that the Univ. of Nodak would forever be known as "the Fighting Sioux." The NCAA didn't budge. The die hards that never even went to UND were the ones that were the most upset, so a coalition of morons went to Indianapolis to appeal to Mark Emmert the president of the NCAA. This coalition was headed up by our governor (who signed the bill to keep the name without realizing the implications), Al Carlson (an NDSU alum that made things worse by introducing the legislation) and Grand Forks attorney Grant Shaft. When Emmert told the coalition that sanctions would still be in place and more would come, the pragmatic among us backed off. Yes, we like the name, but if it means our hockey team has to play an independent schedule, our football team gets denied membership into the Big Sky, and we have to look at an eternity of playing the likes of Mayville St. then what the hell is the point?

So, cooler heads prevailed and the nickname law was repealed. Now, all PA announcers, media guides, etc. will only refer to UND as "North Dakota" effective January 1. The hockey team will use their "logo" jerseys until the end of February because the new ones won't be available until then.

Florida St. on the other hand got to keep their name, because there's about 200 Seminoles left in the world and Florida State takes very good care of them. Illiinois only had to retire "Chief Illiniwek" which was basically a logo of an indian from the front and a Frat kid running around in a head dress, and the Utah "Utes" had little to no native american imagery to speak of outside of a feather. The blackhawk is what the NCAA had the biggest problem with, and the loudest opponents of Native American names are often from the Sioux tribes.

This is particualary correlated with the American Indian Movement in the 1970s, and the 79 day stand off at Pine Ridge. The full blooded traditionalist Sioux REALLY don't trust anyone. And the academics among them have been fighting this for years. The non academics see it as a point of pride. It's a shame really.

At least they get to keep their sick colors. But Bench, what is it that happens with the Ralph because I can't remember?

And Go TOMMIES!!!!

UST 27- UW-W 24

We'll shut done their offense because too many will be nursing a boone's farm hangover and will be slowed by all the grease from the usual pregame cheese curds and bratwurst buffet.

The REA is not owned by UND, and there were rumors that the old man would have it "torn down" should the name change. Cooler heads and the love for the team itself prevailed over an arbitrary drawing of an indian.

In terms of what changes need to be made, nothing embedded in the architecture needs to be changed. Things of historical significance, such as championship banners and pictures of the old teams in their jerseys can stay, and things like logos in the carpet will be phased out over time when it needs to be naturally replaced.
