Anyone know this guy?

Judging by the sweatshirt I'd say he definitely matriculated in Collegeville, and not NYC.

Eeeew  >:(

He's a Naval Academy grad.  I'm sure that sweatshirt is from the Queens Branch of SJU.

You didn't really expect the UST(d) grad to READ the article, did you? 8-)

That's right Bennie, I forgot you guys didn't offer graduate programs.

Not true.  I'm pretty sure we had graduate programs before U$T(d) did.

What does the MIAC look like next season. I heard UST is losing a lot. Will they still be favorites against next year?

We're losing the usual suspects: Tracy, Waldvogel, Danna, Vandergriff, Graham, Baregi, Kane and Tobin.

However, we had two good freshman RBs step in and play a lot this year (Toney & Terrell-Byrd), a freshman QB that's similar to Tracy in Matt O'Connell also played well. Whitley, Noehring, Marks, Schneider and much of the contributers O-line will be back, including James.

Treymane Williams showed he's ready to be a big time player this year after Baregi went down. Jack Gavin was fantastic in big games this year. I think there will be some questions on both sides of the ball, but they'll be answered quickly. Caruso has proven he can recruit without the nice facilities, and I'm guessing he'll have even more leverage now.

I could see UST going 8 - 2 or 9 - 1. I think 10 - 0 would be exceeding expectations, but who knows? The bar has been set pretty high.

I would think UST would be the favorite.  They've apparently been getting great recruits, and are coming off of a season where their team got several more games, and quite a few more practices than anyone else in the MIAC.  Might take a bit to figure out who the new leaders are, but I doubt they'll have much trouble.

Bethel was UST's biggest in conference test this year, and they will be replacing a quarterback who was an important part of the offense.  Returning a couple of good backs and a couple of lineman I think...also lost a second team all conf. linebacker.

SJU...will be interesting to see.  Did they really improve towards the end of the year, or did they just appear to improve playing some lower level teams.  Wouldn't be shocked to see them back contending for the conference title.

Also, having the SJU UST game as the conference opener adds an odd dynamic.  Doesn't allow either team to get into much of a groove.  I understand that the schedule will just work out that way sometimes, but I prefer when they meet later in the season...this seems anti-climatic.

Agreed! I was kind of upset when I saw this. If SJU gets back to prominance now it's one team's early season loss that could dictate its playoff fate. I'd like to see SJU, Bethel and UST playing each other in mid/late October.

Of course, the pragmatist in me says that if UST gets out of the gauntlet unscathed, it's nice to have Hamline late in the season to rest guys that are beat up.

I also just don't understand SJU's scheduling of Northwestern.  UWEC is a good challenge for sure, but you would think that they would want a team that they'd get some good in game experience from.  I have to think that they don't get much out of that matchup in terms of experiences that they can build off of.  Not saying that they need to be playing some big name team, but at least a team with a pulse (maybe St. Scholastica  ;) )

Really, the question should be-how is any MIAC team going to get to the UWW level-not by replacing senior starters with sophomore starters. We will have to see which, if any school, picks up a few DII transfers, or something like that-otherwise, might win the MIAC, and a few playoff games against lesser opponents-but season will end playing Whitewater or Mount.

Well, with only being able to lose one game and probably get a pool C, why schedule a tough opponent? It would be interesting to see if a MIAC team played UWW in non-conference and lost and then lost to the MIAC champ-would they get a pool C?

Too bad the WIAC doesn't have a 9th team. IIAC, MIAC, WIAC challenge every year. Rotate who your non-conference games are down the line. Wouldn't even have to bother with scheduling.

they do, but UW Superior stopped playing football back in 1991.

The eight team conference is one of the reasons that the WIAC has trouble with their scheduling, and has had to play a conference opponent in a "non-conference" game the last couple years. Curiously the CCIW (I think) also has only eight teams. It would seem natural that, due to their geographic proximity, they would play each other in that third non conference game. But Noooooooo....  The WIACers say it's because they're chicken. I think they might be onto something.

Why would the WIACers be scared of the CCIW?  Man, those Wisconsinites can be lame.

It isn't the the WIAC programs who are ducking the CCIW.
