So, SJU beat U$T in b-ball last night :o  Oh, how the mighty have fallen!!!  ::)

Holy $hit.  I wouldn't believe this until I checked the score on the Tommy web site.  Really too bad they played on the worst possible day of the year for a game at St. John's.  At least if it were at St. Thomas on the 2nd there would have been a decent crowd.

Ahh... with enough effort at making no game seem more important than any other, the MIAC will eventually make sure that's true.  Saying everyone is special is just another way of saying no one is.  Why bother keeping score?  Just mandate every game is a draw and then all the schools can feel good about their perfectly equal levels mediocrity.  And rotate conference championships so it's fair.  The infantilization of society continues apace with institutions of higher learning working hard to show there is not really all that much which is special about them in the first place.

This is a topic that really gets under my skin.  Frickin' ridiculous.
So is it safe to say that you don't have a "My child is student of the month at XXXXX Elementary School" bumper sticker on your car? ;)

That made me laugh out loud, bennie.  No, no chance of that on my car.

Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

To be fair to UST, they were without their starting center, who is averaging 16+ pts per game.  The write up on the st thomas site said that they "platooned" the position with 3 other players.  SJU fans should know better than anyone after this year...if you've got 3 guys playing 1 position, you don't really have 1 guy playing the position...    ;)

Still a solid win for an SJU team that wasn't supposed to win the game.

SJU beating UST at hoops, UST beating SJU at football. Next thing you know Tommie girls will get fat and Bennies will start engaging in sexual promiscuity.

Anyway, couldn't agree more with the scheduling debate. What's with the concerted effort to make every game meaningless?

I think it's a combination of laziness and a few jealous parties that won't get VIP treatment.

This could be something that is easily delegated to the schools. Have the conference put out a first draft of the schedule, and then let schools wheel-n-deal with one another to swap dates on a schedule to ensure great rivalries aren't buried over a long weekend in the fall, Christmas break, spring break, etc.

Respect for the passing of a Tom - RIP Lefty Smith

Indeed. A great guy. He recruited some very good Minny players there, including Bill Nyrop, Don Jackson, Dave Laurion and Donnie Lucia. RIP.

Interesting.  Bummer for Carleton.  I wonder where he is going.  And if he's staying in football.

I just hope it doesn't kill our recruiting like when Brann left.
