While I don't come close to the rare air that Mr. MIAC frequents, I'd be glad to point you to some decent beer outposts in a so-so beer town. Don't know if Dogfish is back in Minny, but they've got some solid stuff.

I went to a hockey game last night. Not too bad. High school quality I would say. Good environment. About 3000 fans in attendance. I didn't expect the Australian hockey league to be that popular.  No Hanson brothers, though, do that was a letdown.

Dogfish is brewed a couple miles from my Alma Mater (Salisbury University) and its good. Also, can't go wrong with Yuengling.

I'll be traveling to DC and northern Virginia in a few weeks to visit my bro-in-law and his family.  Our nieces are excited to meet their newest cousin, and I am excited to imbibe in the fabled Yuengling, which I have yet to taste!

Maybe Mr. MIAC can hook me up with a meet & greet with all the DC bigwigs that he pals around with!  ;D

Can't promise anything on the bigwig front, but let me know when you're in town.  I can show you a few cool establishments and the Yuengling will be on me.

I've noticed that there are a few more folks on here that live in the DC area.  It would be nice to get a group together for a few beers, perhaps at someplace like the Old Ebbitt Grill.  Any takers?

I can tell you it was hard to resist screaming out "I'M LISTENING TO THE F*$&&%#@ SONG!" when the Aussie national anthem was playing.

And on another movie's contribution to pop culture, The Waterboy (which I have never seen) is the bane of any mid-period prize give-away.  They had a shoot-the-puck-into-the-impossibly-small-hole-for-a-trip-to-the-US game and after the first horrible miss the inevitable "You can do it!" rings out followed by cruel laughter.  That poor girl may never go to another hockey game.

In tribute to your post I had to change my avatar to my pic with the Hanson's.  Met them in Colorado back in 1995.

if any of you can make this larger please do so or let me know how to

The Dogfish Head  90 Minute IPA is a must have while you're out there Duff. It's probably in my top 5 for hoppy beers.

Yuengling is pretty good. I'm not a lager guy, but as far as lager's go this is about as good as they come. I think it was a little overhyped when I tried it the first time so that may have set it up for unmatched expectations. But a solid beer none the less.

With Marcus Brumm, Michael Dunham, Dakota Tracy, and Josh Aakre all graduating this year, who do you think will emerge as the top QBs in the conference?  I know Dan Dobson is coming back from St. Olaf so he should be pretty solid.  Any others out there that we don't know about?  I'm just interested in people's thoughts.

Everyone ready for my season preview of the Johnnies?  Ordinary men doing extraordinary things.  I reckon we have an underdog team.  If they take the conference this season it will be because of extraordinary team work.  Fingers crossed and one-eyed boosterism, as normal, from me.

A big mark of the year contender this weekend. Melbourne were getting poleaxed by Sydney but a Melbourne player managed to take this hanger of a mark.  He must have taken the ball 12 feet off the ground. A huge flyer.

I can't say that I know anything about upcoming QB's, but I'm certainly interested to see what UST looks like next year.  It seems like they've certainly been getting a lot of big name recruits, but it will be interesting to see how replacing Tracy - Waldvogel - Tobin goes for them.  They depended on those 3 for a lot of production...I've no doubt they'll get things figured out, but will there be some early hiccups as new leaders are found?

St. Thomas VP Doug Hennes called into Saturday Morning SportsTalk with Reusse and Judd Zulgad.

Reusse: "When are you going to go to Division 2?"
Hennes: "We may not, we like division 1" -- Hennes corrects himself quickly to say something about Division 3 as Reusse interrupts to say "Well, They don't like you!"

Reusse then goes on to propose a solution the MIAC might like, St. Thomas should split into St. Thomas North and South and field 2 teams for every sport.

So I get Reusse's point on enrollment numbers, but what's the problem with UST having funding and facilities?  It's not like UST is just mopping the floor with DIII teams across all sports.  Some DIII schools have far more resources than UST and have historically had more dominant athletic programs (look at Williams, for example).  Are people calling for these schools to leave DIII?

That's a good question.  I reckon a few things may play out next season depending on how the trip up in Winnipeg goes.  For UST it's a real opportunity to see who is going to step up next season and make plays.  The coaching staff will be able to make an assessment on whether or not Matt O'Connell is ready to play.  He certainly saw a lot of time last year when UST got up on opponents and he showed that he could play. I think Caruso was thinking ahead about this and tried to get some game reps for guys like Matt.  Secondly, UST may rely more on the run game and their defense next year (they pretty much return everyone on defense).  Their offensive line is stellar, especially with the addition of David Simmet from Hill Murray.  The two California running backs (Toney and Bryd) should be ready to go behind that offensive line.   It will be interesting to see who steps up at wide receiver.  You can never really replace a guy like Fritz, so it may take a few guys to step up and make plays.  They may have a few freshman that can come in and play right away, but they've created a good problem for themselves and they're deeper than I've ever seen them.

Any rumors about Bethel?  Are they going to focus more on the run game with Brandon?  Also, how is their defense looking?
