Sigh.  Sledging UST is a childish entertainment, obviously.

May I highlight that this recent discussion started at UST prompting?

Quote from: Mr.MIAC on May 16, 2012, 04:18:55 PM
Perhaps we might return to the "UST could go D-I FCS" debate... [The University's] number one goal is to "develop a reputation for excellence beyond the Catholic higher education community and in the broader academy nationally and internationally."... UST could take it to the next level by going D-I FCS.

And a number of Johnnies said, "Again?"

What sort of meds are they handing out at Georgetown cocktail parties these days?  I want some.

Enough of the BC of the Midwest lovestory already.

Some folks noticed a fight heating up:

And with the approaching climax, some Johnnies chose the better part of valor:

I made a resolution that I would be try to more Christian this year.

Others, not so much:

I'll give you my two cents...

Like shooting fish in a barrel...

And then with astounding audacity, the very person that raised the discussion blames the world for talking about it:

It's not like UST is just mopping the floor with DIII teams across all sports.  Some DIII schools have far more resources than UST and have historically had more dominant athletic programs (look at Williams, for example).  Are people calling for these schools to leave DIII?

So, reap what you sow.  Is UST too good for us or not?  Rather than trying to help we'll let you argue it out among yourselves.

There's a big difference between asking for opinions on whether UST COULD go D-I and stating they SHOULD leave the MIAC/DIII.  I opened up a conversation on whether or not it's possible and/or advantageous.  Others, mostly SJU fans and Patrick Reusse, are claiming it's unfair for UST to remain DIII.  From this vantage point those grapes look rather sour.

So I guess there's a bit of the "if you can't beat 'em, act like they shouldn't even be part of the conference" sentiment present on this board, huh?   ;)

Seriously. Lose a couple football games and now St. Thomas has to leave the MIAC like noobs wanted Mount Union to leave D-III.

And to our detractors I say: How about getting with the program? Why don't you jump on the team and come on in for the big win?  All I've ever asked of those from SJU is that they obey my orders as they would the word of God. We are here to help those from SJU, because inside every Johnnie there is a successful Tommie trying to get out. It's a hardball world...

For the record, I've never thought MUC/UMU should leave DIII, and I don't think U$T should leave the MIAC or DIII.  I don't think U$T is the next UWW, but then again, for a long time, I didn't think UWW was the next MUC (and I am still not convinced ;) ).  Time will tell.  Till then, SJU flat-out needs to get better.

Oh, and Hamline sucks.

That's a fair point.  UST has to prove that they are the next UWW or MUC by winning national championships.  Those two teams have set a pretty high standard so I guess only time will tell if UST will be able to make it to that level.  But, if we can't be the next UWW or MUC, could we please be the next SJU?   ;)  I like winning MIAC championships too.  All in good fun my friend.  :)

Do we have any Piper fans on this board?  I feel bad for them...they need to defend themselves!

#2.  UST has gone to extreme lengths to make the neighbors happy.  They have built parking ramps to keep student vehicles off the streets and new dorms to keep more students on campus (they even buy local houses from former landlords and convert them into family homes).

So, will this resolve the illegally parked Lamborghini problems?

I can't tell you how many times I've had to dispatch my personal assistant go to the St. Paul PD's impound lot to get my lambo. But hey, better my PA than having to stand there myself with the common, everyday miscreant that litters my periphery.

I heard they're now pumping pure, flavored, oxygen into the buildings there. Back in my day we actually had to breathe in regular air. Can you imagine?

Game in Winnipeg:

I was unable to make the game myself, but it appears UST faired pretty well in Winnipeg this past weekend, posting a score of 68 to 21. Of course, this info was fed to me second hand by a parent that happened to be in a restaraunt in GF.

He did say Matt O'Connell looked pretty decent. Very Tracy-esque.

That's good to hear. I think Matt will be just fine.  He's a pretty good athlete and has a great head on his shoulders.  Do you know who the backup is right now?

Not too certain who the back-up is at this point. I could be wrong but I don't think the rumors of Gopher-transfer/current Tommie cager John Nance being in the running for a QB spot hold much water. No one seemed to know what I was talking about when I brought it up.

Anyway, I agree Toney and Byrd may be getting the brunt of the carries this coming up year, and will be leaned on more heavily. Didn't seem like either one of them ran away with the #2 spot at RB last year. I would probably give Byrd a slight advantage when it came to ball security. Both of them are smaller, and elusive, but I'd like to see a "3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust" type emerge for short yardage situations.

I haven't heard anything related to John Nance.  He's a tremendous athlete, but he may be focused on winning another basketball national championship. Although, Marcus Alipate (sophomore b-ball player and former Gopher football recruit) may be playing football this year.  He was a standout WR at Bloomington Jefferson.  He would be a great replacement for Fritz.

With respect to the RB position, I too would like to see a few big guys who can pound it in there.  However, UST did pick up a few good running backs that may be worth watching: Moses Saygbe and Kendrik Brewster.

Moses verbally committed to Mankato State and then switched his decision last second to UST.  He's a 6'0" 195 pound RB from Elk River and was the conference MVP.  There are several parallels between Moses and former Johnson High School running back Thomas Tapeh.  Tapeh, who grew up in Liberia until he was 12 years old, played soccer his freshmen year at Johnson and didn't even play football until his sophomore year.  Thinking that his soccer skills would come into use, Tapeh tried out for the football team as a kicker until one day at practice there was a botched snap and Tapeh picked up the ball and proceeded to run over everyone in his path towards the end zone.  We then decided to move him to running back and the rest was history.  Moses, also of Liberian descent, played soccer his entire life until his freshman year of high school.  In fact, he played linebacker his entire high school career until this past season.  Given his raw speed (4.5 forty) and size the coach convinced him to play running back and he became one of the best in the state.  He's very raw but he could be a steal for the Tommies.

Kendrik Brewster is another big running back from CDH.  He's 5'11" and 195 pounds. Based on these highlights, this kid could be special as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLvbDIhJ-fY

Should be fun to watch.

A real steal indeed, only took a $10 Million locker room and a lambo to convince him.  ::)

Hey, not all of us were able to afford Lambos when we went to UST. Although, I was still able to ride in style: 1990 Mercury Cougar baby.
