The conference will consist of two divisions. Joining UST in the Papal Division will be Notre Dame, Boston College and Georgetown (SJU was to replace Georgetown in football and hockey, the NCAA would nto allow this, even after a Papal dispensation and threats of exoommunication).

That's odd because I heard SJU has plans in the works to join a different league.  Apparently with UST's refusal to go D-I the administrators at SJU feel that winning has become too difficult.  They now want to form a new league made up of institutions with similarly modest ambitions.  They've decided to include only metropolitan schools that could be viewed as SJU's peers, both in terms of athletics and academics.  The publicity coming from this move will help SJU further penetrate the Twin Cities market and reach a whole new group of future Johnnies, thus dramatically expanding the "nation that is unrivaled."  No name for the league has yet been released, but participating schools include Anoka-Ramsey, Century, Inver Hills, Normandale, and North Hennepin.  Rumor has it that Dunwoody and Globe College might be joining the league as well, though terms are still under negotiation.

The Protestant Division will consist of Brigham Young, Baylor, Oral Roberts and Liberty University.

Good stuff, but from the protestant perspective, BYU would be squarely in the 'heathen' division. Actually, from the RCC, Orthodox and Protestant perspective, that's where BYU would land.

I know, I know, not your intention and it was all for fun, but I just couldn't resist replying.  :)

God help us, Oz, I could not agree more.  With the demise of the shuttle program we'll have to rely on SpaceX to take this guy home.

Do we have any New Yorkers here?  Thirsty?

Good point, altho candidate Romney may disagree. We can bump BYU to the "Heathen" Division and add Wake Forest to the Protestants...but you gotta get WFU to agree to field ice hockey.....fair enough?

On a related note, Joel Maturi stated that, if UST does leave the MIAC for this new super-conference, he would strongly urge his successor to have the U replace the Tommies in the MiAC. Maturi said "if MN does this, I guarantee the Gophers will finish in the upper half of the standings if not the top 3 in most sports" but demurred to specify which sports he meant.
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

Can't we have Duke? Good basketball, lacrosse and lowsy football, but still a devilish mascot. And it gives them the chance to jump off the sinking ship that is the ACC.

And as for Romney, he'd definitely disagree, but then again, he's also claimed to be a genuine conservative for the past year or so  ::) ;)

Yeah, as a current joke goes:  "A liberal, a conservative, and a moderate walk into a bar.  The bartender calls out 'Hi, Mitt'."

I liked the original plywood doors better - better texture. 8-)

Anyone see JJR lately?  I assume this doesn't happen in his court very often.  Language warning.

And a high flying mark.

And Hawthorn's Lance Franklin kicks 13 goals against the Kangaroos.

The plywood is the ironic example of a "typical Tommie Girl"- just walking by & taking a glance, they both look perfectly presentable. Upon closer examination you find layers of adhesive and chemicals holding a discarded waste product together. As the old saying goes "She looks good from far,but she's far from good." ;)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Football Alum Brady Beeson Lands Spot in Pro Indoor Football League
June 08, 2012

Former Tommie placekicker Brady Beeson was signed last week to play with the Tri-City (Wash.) Fever in the Indoor Football League. Beeson wasted no time in making an impact.

In his debut last Saturday in Fort Collins, Colo., he kicked a game-winning 24-yard field goal in overtime of a 52-49 victory over the Colorado Ice.

Beeson also kicked field goals of 22, 45 and 49 yards and made four PATs. He was named the league's Special Teams Player of the Week.

This is the second professional kicking opportunity for Beeson, who played briefly for the IFL's Chicago Slaughter during the 2011 season.

Tri-City is located in southeast Washington in the community of Kennewick. The Fever, which has the league's second-best record at 11-2, plays Saturday night at home in its regular-season finale against the Wyoming Calvary. It has already clinched the championship for the eight-team Intense Division.

The Indoor Football League has 16 members, including seven teams in Iowa (Cedar Rapids), Wisconsin (Green Bay), South Dakota (Sioux Falls), Illinois (Chicago and Bloomington) and Nebraska (Omaha and Grand Island).

Beeson was a standout Nordic skiier and soccer player at Apple Valley High but he never played football. He was a backup kicker for three seasons at St. John's before he transferred to St. Thomas in the summer of 2009. He helped the Tommies reach the NCAA playoffs and post an 11-2 record as he scored a school-record 79 points. He made 7-of-11 field goals and 58-of-63 PATs on the season, including 5-of-5 field goals in NCAA playoff games.

The IFL has approximately 450 current players, including about two dozen from Division III programs.
