Football Alum Brady Beeson Lands Spot in Pro Indoor Football League
June 08, 2012

Former Tommie placekicker Brady Beeson was signed last week to play with the Tri-City (Wash.) Fever in the Indoor Football League. Beeson wasted no time in making an impact.

In his debut last Saturday in Fort Collins, Colo., he kicked a game-winning 24-yard field goal in overtime of a 52-49 victory over the Colorado Ice.

Beeson also kicked field goals of 22, 45 and 49 yards and made four PATs. He was named the league's Special Teams Player of the Week.

This is the second professional kicking opportunity for Beeson, who played briefly for the IFL's Chicago Slaughter during the 2011 season.

Tri-City is located in southeast Washington in the community of Kennewick. The Fever, which has the league's second-best record at 11-2, plays Saturday night at home in its regular-season finale against the Wyoming Calvary. It has already clinched the championship for the eight-team Intense Division.

The Indoor Football League has 16 members, including seven teams in Iowa (Cedar Rapids), Wisconsin (Green Bay), South Dakota (Sioux Falls), Illinois (Chicago and Bloomington) and Nebraska (Omaha and Grand Island).

Beeson was a standout Nordic skiier and soccer player at Apple Valley High but he never played football. He was a backup kicker for three seasons at St. John's before he transferred to St. Thomas in the summer of 2009. He helped the Tommies reach the NCAA playoffs and post an 11-2 record as he scored a school-record 79 points. He made 7-of-11 field goals and 58-of-63 PATs on the season, including 5-of-5 field goals in NCAA playoff games.

The IFL has approximately 450 current players, including about two dozen from Division III programs.

DC T-Cat,
I'm not sure what Russ is up to. I talked to him last year at Homecoming- he was with a former teammate who's family has seats right behind ours. I know the teammate is in Law School @ William Mitchell, but not sure if Russ is working or in a Graduate Program in the Twin Cities. I'm 99% sure he is not playing FB.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Here's a great story about the graduating class at Verbum Dei High School in Watts.
2 of them are following a number of their fellow high school alums paths to SJU.

Agreed.  Good find, Faunch.  That school is certainly doing something right.

Johnnie Red

OzJohnnie, fortunately I have never had to experience anything like that in court. :D
Duffman, see the article in the Star Tribune yesterday on Schell's Brewery in New Ulm? Very nice story. It mentioned the CEO/brewer Ted Marti, the fifth generation of his family involved with the brewery. As luck would have it, I was at the Chaska Cubs' baseball game yesterday afternoon and we were hosting New Ulm. Ted Marti's son was on the team and I got to meet him.
Speaking of beer, I recently discovered that Hairball will be playing at the Stiftungsfest again this year on Friday night, August 24 in Norwood Young America. Put it on your calendar. ;D

SJU is giving away turf...about 10% of it is still available for the taking.  I'm sure U$T would have sold it by the foot. ;-)

Good on Beeson.  It's great to see these young men keep playing when they want to.  Speaking of, over in JP, IBM BigBlue finished their spring season by drilling Tokyo Gas 35-21, to finish their spring season 2-1.  Old # 13, now converted to TE/WR and special teams (where he can still tackle people) caught two passes for 49 yards (they already had two gaijin on defense, which is their max for foreigners on the field at the same time, so they found a place for him on offense).  That much I can gleen from the statistics.  Unfortunately, the game write-ups are in Japanese only.  The regular season starts around Labor Day, and he's looking forward to that, but his current job ends next month and he needs to find another job, closer to Tokyo this time, in order to stay.

Flash album of the game: http://www.bigblue-football.net/Gal/2012_OG1/Gallery.html.  #13, now #98, is at 22/23, 36/37, 39, 40, 52/53, 94, 122/123 and 135 (far right).

Anyone see JJR lately?  I assume this doesn't happen in his court very often.  Language warning.

Serves the judge right for starting off the proceeding with "Righteo."   8-)

Happens more frequently than you might expect. Newspaper reporters rarely sit through proceedings these days though. Most of the news you get is from someone going to the Clerk's office and just finding out what happened that day. Don't really get the full story on the news or in the paper.

My favorite part is just after the Righteo...

HIS HONOUR:  Righteo, could we have him in, please?

Mr B, stand up, please.

I have been informed, Mr B, that you wish to dispense with the
services of your solicitor and as a consequence of that your
barrister is also seeking leave to withdraw, which means you
will be self-represented for this trial.  Do you understand
that?

DEFENDANT:  Yes.

HIS HONOUR:  So you'll be representing yourself for this
trial, do you understand?

DEFENDANT:  No, no way in the world.

HIS HONOUR:  Yes, way in the world, Mr-----

It's like the judge watched Wayne's World the night before and still had the Aurora, Ill. rocker mentality going, dude.

I used to have the exact same exchange with #1 son when he was about 5.  Me: "No way."  Him: "Yes, way!" - and on and on.  He would get pretty frustrated.  8-)

Learned via the hoops board that Hamline is hosting a night game vs. Augsburg this year....

Outside of the Augsburg games at the dome, when was the last time there was a MIAC vs. MIAC game played at night?

Great idea, would be even better if they didn't turn on the lights

I'm guessing Hamline's offense looks the same in the dark.
