Sigh. It's coming to Johnnietown. It's just a matter of time.

Tmerton; you can translate your son's game reports at bablefish. The Japanese to English comes up more as Engrish, but you still get an idea of what happened. You feed the URL for the game report page into bablefish and it comes back with the same page translated.

Learned via the hoops board that Hamline is hosting a night game vs. Augsburg this year....

Outside of the Augsburg games at the dome, when was the last time there was a MIAC vs. MIAC game played at night?
Great idea, would be even better if they didn't turn on the lights

Ha. That made me laugh.

The family and I enjoyed our trip out to VA and DC.  Thanks to the DC locals that chimed in with suggestions.  Unfortunately, our time was quite limited and we were somewhat at the mercy of a 9-month old, so we didn't get to visit all we would have like to, but it was a great trip, nonetheless.

Yuengling isn't bad, but it wasn't as good as I was expecting.  Of course, I didn't realize that it cost about the same as a case of any big-brewery domestic.  So, it gets a thumbs-up from me.

I had some Dogfish Head 60-minute IPA that was pretty good.

I also didn't realize how many vineyards existed in northern VA.  It is bigtime wine country over there.

Seeing the national monuments in person was pretty neat.  The Lincoln Memorial is HUGE!

A tradition unrivaled...

I would think that it won't be too long before every school with lights is hosting a night game once a year or so.

How many MIAC schools are still without lights?  Bethel doesn't...the few that I've been to (SJU, UST, Aug - all do, can't remember if Olaf does or doesn't)

All except those you listed do not have lights.  Unless you count Macalester whose lights enabled Northwestern to complete the first modern doubleheader in college football.  Playing Hamline at night as part of a doubleheader would seem like a great idea for the Johnnies.  You could bring 2 separate teams down to the cities and come back with a bye week saved up.

That gave me a headache; bablefish doesn't work very well with Japanese.

78 days until kickoff. Anyone found a solution for listening to streaming RealMedia on an iPad yet?  I desperately want to lie in my warm bed on a Sunday morning at 4am with a pair of earphones this year.

With the addition of lights in Collegeville, the MIAC schools with lights are: Augsburg, Hamline, SJU and UST. Those without still form the majority: Bethel, Carleton, Concordia, Gustavus and St Olaf.  Sorta like your typical US Supreme Court decision, a 5-4 split.

DUFF- lotta great wineyards in Maryland too- not to mention horse country, there as well as NoVa.  I lived in Richmond VA for about 2 years and made many a trip to DC...agreed about the various monuments. I assume you got to the Vietnam Memorial....it always gave me goosebumps.

Did you get to check out the National WII Memorial?  I'm a veteran who's often visited both memorials, but for some reason the Vietnam Memorial seems to have more of an emotional impact.

Just in case Tom Stock or any of the Gagliardi's happen to read this post....It's time for SJU to get on board w/ live video web streaming.  If you keep finishing 2nd or 3rd in the league you won't have attendance issue to worry about anyway.  Start promoting and marketing the program by showing it on the web.

Yes, the WWII memorial is beautiful and impressive, but I found the Vietnam memorial more emotionally impacting.  There's just something about all those names.

The WWII memorial is beautiful and brilliant. It's setup and detail to the battles, theaters and quotes is awesome.

I think what sets The Wall apart is just the sheer volume of humanity and personal sacrifice represented. It is simple and tragically profound. The WWII memorial seems like just that, a memorial to the War and the men who fought it. The Vietnam memorial seems more like a community tombstone. It's just impossible not to be overwhelmed by the emotion of all those names and the lives and families they represent.

Moving stuff...

+k hazzbeen. Insightful. Time spent not dancing or drinking was instead used developing keen perception. Time well spent.
