coming soon...  DIII's largest stadium video board:

It'll be nice to see replays.

Here's an idea for a poll question:
Should D3 football stadiums be equipped with video boards?

Cast my vote as a no.

Why no? If it's some schtick about the "purity of the game," or "not in accordance with the spirit of Division III" or a distraction, I say this: Yeah...but now you can see the replay.

I win.

Replays would be nice, but I'm not that fussed. If there was a board I would look at it. If there wasn't I wouldn't miss it.  There's a value to tradition and old school charm. That's why I don't like the lights (particularly that one right in the middle of the hillside) at Clemens. Not everything has to be flash and bang. I hope SJU does not follow suit. Particularly if they put up a video screen before they stream video.

I don't feel the MIAC has lost any of its charm with modern improvements like spinturf, facility upgrades, or new scoreboards.

I didn't find hopping a locked gate in full game day attire after walking through a parking lot with parked cars adjacent to our playing field, before a varsity game against Carleton all that charming. I found it embarrassing.

There's nothing wrong with giving the guys that work that hard but didn't necessarily have the talent to play up a few levels the feel that their game means something either. I think if you asked any player still playing if they'd rather play in a facility with some upgrades and a decent sized crowd, or at Carleton in a concrete shell in front of 8 kids looking for a quiet place to study for a Quiz Bowl, I'm guessing most players would pick the former.

Note: I realize most guys would go "I'd play in a gravel pit, I don't care." But most would admit it's nice to have a place to sit down, and a decent shower with some water pressure after the game.

Maybe Carleton is thinks they're saving the polar bears by having low-flow shower heads?  At least they aren't as green as Northland up in Wiscy;  you press a button to get 15 seconds of a thin stream of cold water at a painfully high pressure.

Jeez, it's a long way from "I'm not fussed" and hoping it doesn't happen at Clemens to me advocating playing in a "concrete shell".  Are those the only two choices?  Waterboarding our football players or Hollywood superstardom?  Shame.  I miss the old school football atmosphere already and I didn't even know it was gone.

No real opinion on the video board, but all I can say is at least students didn't go through the visiting "locker room" during Carleton games and steal wallets and iPods.

Maybe because they would have had to know how to get to the stadium...

Cast my vote as a no.

Well, you're about 30 stadiums too late on that.

Really?  Then change my vote...put one as big as the friggin' bell banner in the south end of Clemens....just don't block Fins view from the skybox.
I do agree w/ OZ though....get a freakin' webcast going first.

So who currently has the largest video scoreboard until UST builds theirs?

I think that video scoreboards can be used to enhance the fan experience.

UW-Stout is installing a new scoreboard this summer with video. That should also make Menomonie High School one of the few with instant replay.  ;)

Do the D3 schools w/ video boards actually show instant replays during the games?  I'm guessing the officials wouldn't care much for that.

I think they're also used as a recruiting tool.  Kids that know they have no chance of playing D1 or D2 get to have some hi-tech bells and whistles at the D3 level.  They see the board in action when they visit during a game in the fall.  Then when they make maybe another visit after the season is over the recruiting coordinator and video guy has a highlight video to play when they tour the stadium.

We could have used it in 2008 during the Tommie-Johnnie game when Wartman clearly crossed the goal line   ;)
