There are also a few kids from Wisconsin on the SJU roster, isn't that the same as having kids from Germany?

From the GoJohnnies Facebook page:

The 2012 SJU football roster (as of 8/13), 194 strong, has four sets of siblings and 34 non-Minnesotans, including 11 from California.

That's roughly 23% of the team from out of state.  I wouldn't doubt that as hard as UST is recruiting that their #'s from out of state are quite high as well.
It does kind of make me chuckle when I think of all the UST players and students that grow up in St. Paul....attend Nativity Elementary, CDH and then UST.
I know that large number of SJU's players and students come from Stearns County and central Minnesota....but it's kind of crazy how many people I meet in St. Paul that have never really left Highland Park and Mac/Goveland.

34 / 194 being roughly 23% must be johnnie math.  Unless by "roughly", you meant "very roughly", in that it is actually 17.5%   ;)

That is interesting though, particularly all of the Californians.

How are they able to get Florida kids to come to Northfield?  They have them every year.  Does St. Olaf have a connection to some of the high schools down there.
I think one of the reasons SJU is getting California kids has with their connection to the Jesuit high schools.

Very intriguing that UWEC starts the season by playing UST and then SJU.  Should be a good indicator of what to expect in Collegeville on September 15th.  From what I've read UWEC has a number of players, including their quarterback, returning from a team that absolutely rolled the Johnnies.  Also interesting is that I believe both UST and UWEC's squads traveled this summer as well and were allowed extra practices this past spring.
Suffice to say I don't have very good vibes for the boys is red in the first 3 weeks of the season...prediction 1-2 start to the 2012 campaign.

Off-topic post of the day .... Rest assured , Pat, that your site pulls local ads.  I'm laying over in the Icelandair lounge and  I'm getting my ads on this site in Icelandic. Makes sense but the first one was Dominoes and it certainly caught my attention.

Robert Zimmerman

Check out the article about intramurals in the SJU alum magazine written by Sfury.  I would to thank Sfury for making me look like a hoarder, but it is true, I can't part with those championship tees. The next time my name shows up in the alum magazine, probably my death announcement.

Legendary SJU intramural champion, perhaps best known as one of few D3football.com posters who's Karma always exceeded his number of posts. The consummate example of quality over quantity.  ;D

An off the beaten path suggestion.
Today the bride & myself stopped for lunch in Kimball (Intersection of Hwy 55 & Hwy 15) at the Triple R Grill & Bar.
This may be an alternative after SJU games for those heading back to the TC if you don't mind the detour off of 94.
A beer, a glass of wine some beef fajitas and an Oriental chicken salad for $28.00.

Also Of interest to the Johnnie faithful 1/2 price tap beer & rail drinks 3-6PM 7 days a week. This would put you in "happy hour" after a game for at least 1 1/2 hrs. I had an Alaskan Summer Ale on tap (non-happy hour was $3.50 for 16 oz).The food was very good.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

We pass there on our way to our cabin often.  Is it a family atmosphere that I could stop at without feeling too guilty?
