Where has Mr.MIAC gone?  I miss his inane U$T babbles.  :D

I was thinking that exact same thing, where's Mr.MIAC to create some drama and controversy. If there was ever a week where his posts would seem appropriate, this would be the week.

Paging Mr.MIAC...

Allow me to join the ranks of people who think it's ridiculous that this game is played in September. It's way too early for a game of this stature.

Agreed. I propose that this game be moved immediately prior to the week Bethel plays either UST or SJU each year.  ;D You can go back and forth between the two, I just want one of them good and spent, both physically and emotionally coming into Arden Hills  8-)

And maybe this early season matchup explains the lame attempt at a T-Shirt like "Better Dead Than Red." The lack of buildup is killing the creativity and leaving the rivalry with tired slogans they've stolen from other rivalries.

SUMMIT!!!!!

Johnnie/Tommie week and no posts in over 12 hours.  What's going on?

Well here's one for ya from his speech at SJU last night:

"I realized that if I had accepted a speaking engagement at St. Thomas I would have had to speak slowly and use a great deal more short words" -Tom Brokaw
I beleive that is called "catering to your audience"...he'd use the same line @UST only about speaking at USJ.... or like KR does with many ethnic jokes where he replaces the enthic group with Tommies (or I do and replace them with Johnnies).
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

No way! That's not true. Brokaw loves SJU and thinks Tommies suck! And KR told me he made up all those Tommie jokes. You Tommies might steal other people's jokes and change them, but not us.

SUMMIT!!!!!

while its a little early in the week for predicting the outcome, a friend (U-MN alum) and I worked out the math angles and came up with the following:

Last year, UST won 63-7.  The offense isn't as good as last year, so we deduct 20 pts from UST. The defense isn't as good as last year, so they will give up 10 more than in 2011. It's at SJU not at UST, so add 10 pts to SJU & dock UST 10.....final score: Tommies 33, Johnnies 27! NO OT needed, no kicks bouncing off the uprights, no power outages in the surrounding 20 mile radius....just awesome football.
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

According to the article, it's a clever "play on words".

QuoteSenior Grace Vo said she wanted make T-shirts for her final Tommie-Johnnie experience as a student.

Vo said her design, which reads "Better Dead than Red," plays off the anti-communist movement of the 1950's led by former Wisconsin Sen. Joseph McCarthy.

"It's a play on words," Vo said. "I was kind of aiming for the American history part of it."

There are apparently Tommie/Johnnie hats and fanny packs, as well.  ::)

Johnnie Red

Add Senator Amy Klobuchar to the list for political celebs who will be attending the Johnnie-Tommie game on Saturday. When was the last time that our governor and U.S. senator were in attendance at a MIAC football game? Now if I could only get Paris Hilton to make an appearance in Collegeville! :o

I remember seeing Timmy P. and quite a few other politicians glad-handing and kissing babies at the SJU/U$T game in St. Paul a few years back.

I'd trade every politician that shows up for 50 cents and a mustard sandwich.

I just want the Viking cheerleader gals to show up again!

Is Ms. Vo implying that St. John's is more socialist?  Even if the institutions themselves are equally capitalist or socialist, which school attracts or turns out more conservatives?  Who is more excited to see Dayton/Klobuchar?  If alumni are the deciding factor for the conservative credentials of St. Thomas does Soucheray/Vince Flynn outweigh Tom Dooher and Oberstar?

OzJohnnie

I outweigh all of them unfortunately and seem in a continual struggle to underweigh them.  But beer is so tasty.
