Add Senator Amy Klobuchar to the list for political celebs who will be attending the Johnnie-Tommie game on Saturday. When was the last time that our governor and U.S. senator were in attendance at a MIAC football game? Now if I could only get Paris Hilton to make an appearance in Collegeville! :o

That may also be an omen that reinforces the final score predicted by maniac. 30 - 27 are also the IQ's of those two politicians.

Yes, Yale and the University of Chicago Law School had special programs for retards from Minnesota that allowed them to attend and graduate.

Damn. Why didn't anyone tell me this before now?  I'm always doing things the hard way.

The pressure is squarely on the shoulders of the Johns-no doubt about it. Considering the drubbing last year in the friendly confines, the whispers that perhaps JG's presence no longer serves as any recruiting advantage and maybe it is time for a change up top, playing at home with a healthy number of returning starters-they'd better win this game or it's all going to hit the fan. You know Gags would like nothing better than to avenge that beatdown that took place last year. Was that the worst of his SJU career? Should they not be able to, I can't imagine what that will do to his/their psyche.

The Toms are trying to achieve the level of sustained success that SJU has enjoyed both in conference and on the national level. Beating them up there again is just another step in the right direction. That being said, they still have a long way to go!

There's at least a little pressure on UST. After the struggle they had on the road at UWEC, going on the road to Clemens will be a good test. They've got talent and depth. But beating up on UWRF doesn't mean you've replaced the leadership from last years exceptional senior class. And while SJU has the nasty pressure of not sucking, UST now has the flip side, the pressure of expectations. I'd take the latter in a heartbeat, but don't for a second think that going into a game against your hated rival as the ranked team, that is expected to win, doesn't carry some weight for Caruso and his boys.

There is definitely the pressure of expectations and winning up there, but my point is that it pales in comparison to the pressure on JG and his boys.

I would agree with you on this one. I would also add that typically, folks tend to look to the "playmakers" as those who provide the leadership for a football program. So, losing Tobin, Waldvogel, Tracy, Danna, Beregei are big losses to those of us on the outside. Those on the inside of the circle see all the snaps Matt O'Connell took with the second team last year, and what Ferrazzo has been doing in practice, or what Curtis James does every play because our eyes are following the ball. Obviously guys like Oji and Gavin are steady, experienced and have big play ability. UST has added depth, but now with SJU and UWEC on the front end of the schedule, the "next guy up" doesn't have time work out the butterflies of starting or the luxury of coming in with the game safely in-hand. They have to show their leadership abilities right away.

Who has more pressure this weekend, SJU to prove they're back or UST to prove they're worthy of moving to a higher division?

I have no idea, but when was the last time SJU lost 3 straight to UST?

A long, long time ago. Before even I was born....1954-57, I believe.

This should fire you up.

Looks like "Tommies suck" is stated a little more strongly now at SJU.

Huh, didn't notice the lockdown.  From reading Pat's post about it, he locked it down due to 1 guy (JT I think was his moniker) who didn't seem to be much of a d3 fan, was having a conversation with himself.  It wasn't because a couple of d3 fans were taking good-natured cheap shots at politicians who plan to attend an upcoming game.

From Tommie Media: Tommie-Johnnie history: location, timing and attendance

"Senior Alyssa Hollenback attended the 2010 game in Collegeville, Minn., and last year's home match-up. This year, however, she said she is not going.

"I just enjoy it a lot more when it's actually here on campus. I know we're going to win, so there's really no point in me driving there to go see it," Hollenback said.

Hollenback said she's disappointed that St. Thomas has hosted one game in the last four years.

"I think it's unfair. It should be here every other year," Hollenback said."

Love it!

Yes! Now you guys are starting to hit your stride.

And while it does stink that UST is playing up at SJU again, at least for the Tommies anyway, it does make for a better game day atmosphere, IMO.

And should UST win, they can point out that 2 of the 3 straight victories were on the road.

Cue UST backer pointing out that they should have already won 3 straight if not for a blown call. Double Cue, a volley of pics and 'I was there on the goal line with a better view than the refs' posts back and forth arguing about whether UST got screwed or Johnnie magic prevailed.

That should be enough to keep things going for a while  ;)

Could be she doesn't want to be stuck in the woods with a bunch of mouth-breathers that have to take a bus 8 miles just to see a woman.

Not to mention I'm sure all the hair-twirling, gum-chomping, abdomen-painted Bennies are also up to speed on the intricacies of the MIAC annual conference football schedule.
