Hats off to SJU for a hard fought game.  I give them an "A" for effort and best wishes for the rest of the season.

Who is the mild mannered, seemingly polite, not-so-pompous individual that hacked Mr. MIAC's D3boards.com account and is posting using his handle?

I really enjoyed the game up in Collegeville today (my first).  Hard to believe SJU would be concerned with lower attendance if the game was webcasted.  If you want to spend 3 hours watching the game and could reasonably choose between being in the stands or in front of your computer, it's no contest.

The turning point of the game in my book was the 4th and 2 from the UST 40 with about 2 minutes left in the half.  Johnnies called timeout, Moynihan was called for the false start, Martin had his worst punt after a little more pressure than usual and the Tommies got it back on the 28 with 2 minutes left in the half.  If the Johnnies get the first down, they're likely going to end the half with the lead, or if the punt gets downed inside the 10, maybe UST doesn't give it a full attempt to score before the half.

If the Johnnies can win next week up in Cornland, it might get them rolling and who knows.  I'm not sure I believe that Olaf or Concordia have improved as much as the Johnnies have this season.  I'll take suggestions on what the spread should be at the Jake next Saturday.  Bruns had a pretty good game considering the pressure he was under.

Those two drives before half were killers but Tommies also had scoring drives of 33, 2 and 1 yards. So defense got some stops. And offense had chances in first half to open it up a bit when up 14-7 and driving but big penalties killed them. And the missed interception opportunity on St. Thomas' last drive of the first half, was it a really bad drop?
It was more of a bad throw than a bad drop.  The bigger problem was every other play during that drive.

Don't even get me started on the whole webcast thing....

Early line-CC -3. They are playing at home after all

cobbernation

I will anticipate a cobber win next saturday vs. SJU.  As long as they take care of the ball and their defense keeps playing well.  The cobber D forced 4 sacks and 6 tackles for loss vs. STO.

Sunday prediction:
CC 24
SJU 20

Recent history would suggest the Cobber homefield advantage versus St. John's applies up until the final minute, at which time perhaps some premature revelry diverts attention from finishing off the opponent, resulting in all kinds of cardiac issues for the folks in the south stands. Cobbers have actually done a better job of upsetting the Johnnies in Collegeville.
That said, I have been impressed with the Concordia offense here in the early going. It seems it usually takes more games for the option to click. Baune, at fullback, is carrying the load very well, which really opens up the rest of the attack. Defense stuffed St. Olaf's running game (19 yards), and really only gave up one big pass play in the 4th quarter. The game was not as close as even the 28-14 final suggests (the last Ole touchdown coming on a pick-6 late in the 4th). Expect a barn-burner.
If the human brain were so simple that we could fully understand it...we would be so simple that we couldn't.

Gotta give some love to Augsburg. Just like against the Johnnies last year, they win on the final play of the game, this time on a 48-yard pass.

Interesting note re:Tommie-Johnnie attendance.

With a crowd of 14k, I saw 3 FBS games that had lesser attendance this week.

And it was actually crazier than I thought. Gustavus intercepted Augsburg with less than a minute left. All they have to do is kneel three times. Augsburg had two timeouts so used them on the first two kneel downs. but on the third one, a helmet came off of a Gustavus player, stopping the clock. They punted into the end zone and Augsburg then went 80 yards in 30 seconds.

Bethel game highlights from Wartburg and Buena Vista.

Mathis stands out with some outstanding plays in both. As does Skoog and the passing game has some nice moments as well.
