Gotta give some love to Augsburg. Just like against the Johnnies last year, they win on the final play of the game, this time on a 48-yard pass.

Auggie magic  ;D

And it was actually crazier than I thought. Gustavus intercepted Augsburg with less than a minute left. All they have to do is kneel three times. Augsburg had two timeouts so used them on the first two kneel downs. but on the third one, a helmet came off of a Gustavus player, stopping the clock. They punted into the end zone and Augsburg then went 80 yards in 30 seconds.

Crazy is right. There was a hint of things to come when at the end of the first half, with no time on the clock, Gustavus kicked off to the Auggies. Hakeem Bourne-McFarlane caught the ball, changed direction and took it all the way for a TD. That was a major momentum change. As an encore, he scored the game winner with no time on the clock. What a great finish.

The Auggies are making a habit of scoring with no time on the clock, or when some doofus leaves less than a seond on the clock.

Of every football game ever played at any level, I bet there haven't been too many times where the same guy scored a touchdown on the final play of the half and the final play of the game. We need Elias Sports Bureau on this.

In fact, the only time I've ever heard of it happening was when Eric Green did it for the Steelers against the Browns in 1992, grabbing a Hail Mary to end the half and win the game. Of course that was Tecmo, and I was on the losing end.

Had a great time at Stiftungfest once again. Thanks for the hospitality fellas.

Only beef was the music at LaPlayette (sp?).

I like Eric Church as much as the next guy, but juke box etiquette says, maybe don't play the most depressing songs from every single one of his albums for two straight hours. I had some real bold tunes all set to go, and these dudes wanted to listen to nothing but the saddest country music they could find. It was Saturday night, you guys.

It will be interesting to see how Bethel & Concordia with their ground game stacks up against UST run defense.

Any thoughts from UST-Bethel or Cobber fans?
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Two new experiences at the Johnnie-Tommie game! Getting to sit with Governor Dayton and Senator Klobuchar during part of the first half was very nice. And then there was the experience of going into the bathroom by the concession stand. The entrance into the woman's bathroom was backed up. As I walk into the men's bathroom, I notice someone in the bathroom stall who had shoes on that looked like something a woman would wear. Big surprise; it was a young woman. Shortly after this three Tommie girls rush into the bathroom area and into the bathroom stall all together. We are so special in Collegeville! ::)

Jury is still out on Concordia as far as I'm concerned. Yeah, they're 3 - 0, but their first two wins were against cupcakes and STO has been overhyped at the beginning of each of the last three seasons, be it "the best RB in the league" or "the best WR core in the league" I'm always let down.

I think with a big, agressive line, and a tough down-hill RB, you can can get a running game going a little bit against UST, moreso than years past. UWEC's Joel Sweeney picked up a hard 104 yards rushing against UST, by just pounding it the best he could. I say "hard" because he carried the ball 27 times and was just short of 4 yards a carry. UWEC was stubborn about it, and it almost worked.

As far as Bethel is concerned, I'm just not all that certain Brandon Marquardt is the guy to crack the code against UST, but it appears their passing game will be somewhat more existent this year so you never know.

An interesting article from Tommie Media.

QuoteStearns County Sgt. Joe Lichy said that in the 27 years he has worked the Tommie-Johnnie game, this was the rowdiest.

"It's never been this bad," Lichy said. "Before the game, a dad had to pick up a St. Thomas female. She blew a 0.35 (on a breathalyzer) and was asked to leave."

0.35?  Wowzers.  That's pretty drunk!

A tradition unrivaled...

.35? Yikes.

I have some clients that function at that level, but for a 20 year old college student, that's pretty close to stomach-pumping time.

It could have been worse, we counted 21 party buses in the lot closest to 94.  Imagine the work the Stearns county Sgt. would have put in had the Tommies drove 500 Lamborghini's instead.

Poor choice of pictures on that story.  The picture on the page is of Alex Powell intercepting a pass vs the Auggies a couple of years ago.

This could explaing Johnnie Red's observation of Tommie Girls in the men's bathroom near the concession stand. ;)
