A few key noncon opponents (the best anyones played to date IMO) that shed some light on the previous numbers:

Wartburg:
#1 Rush D; #33 Pass D; #2 Total D; #13 Scoring D; #14 Pass Eff. D; #69 TO margin; #29 Rush O; #72 Total O; #51 Scoring O
NOTE: 2-1 against a cupcake, Bethel & CCIW team

UWEC:
#98 Rush D; #100 Rush O; #97 Scoring O
NOTE: 0-2, but they've only played SJU & UST. UWP this weekend.

Simpson:
#1 Pass O; #46 Total O; #78 Scoring O; #109 Rush D
NOTE: 1-1; GAC & UWRF. Were predicted to be an IIAC team on the rise this year preseason on their board.

My Take Away:

* Wartburg will probably be the toughest non-con game anyone played this year.
* UWEC may be a solid team, but if they lose Saturday they'll have an ugly record by years end. You don't start 0-3 in the WIAC and finish pretty.
* Anyone in the Top 100 in any category is by definition 'above average'
* These numbers will tell us a lot more in a few weeks when we start to see more common opponents.
* MAC's numbers are surprising, but definitely padded by their competition to date.
* Cobbers numbers pop, but if STO is down this year, their competition to date does not.
* Carleton's numbers may mean something, but they've also played Hamline & Grinnell so far.

MAC is back!

If they are, then they need to man up and rejoin the league as a full member. That said, I only want them back in the league if they can legitimately compete.

Agreed.  They were bad.  I think the last time we played them was 2001, my junior season.  I'm pretty sure I played 4-5 series in the first half and only a couple in the second half.  I remember barely breaking a sweat that day.  And the game was at Mac, so we didn't have a ton of back-ups.  It was some good PT for the 2nd teamers, though.

A tradition unrivaled...
MIAC Champions: '32, '35, '36, '38, '53, '62, '63, '65, '71, '74, '75, '76, '77, '79, '82, '85, '89, '91, '93, '94, '95, '96, '98, '99, '01, '02, '03, '05, '06, '08, '09, '14, '18, '19, '21, '22, '24
National Champions: '63, '65, '76, '03

IDK, I kind of dig the 8 conference game schedule, with the two non-conference games. Maybe we can organize the MIAC like the euro-leagues. Bottom two teams drop out and are replaced by MAC and the best team in the UMAC.

If they shut out Hamline again, the two schools should just switch schedules next season.

Before we determine that MAC should be in the MIAC again I think we should evaluate their schedule a bit. MAC's wins this year have come against the an 0 - 10 team in 2011 in the worst conference in the nation: UMAC (Crown); eeking out a win against a mediocre team from the second worst conference in the nation (Concordia - Wis); and beating up on a team that got drubbed by TRINITY BIBLE COLLEGE (Maranatha Baptist).

If MAC can beat Rhodes, Mayville St., Carleton and Hamline, have strong showings against Augsburg and Lewis and Clark, I'd say it's time for MAC to rejoin the MIAC.

Oh, and stop scheduling Trinity Bible. North Dakota has like 8 towns and I have no idea where Ellendale is. That's how pathetic having Trinity Bible College on your schedule is. TBC plays a Community College twice this year. It's weird to schedule TBC and something a D-III team should not be doing.

Could Caruso end up being the only MIAC coach w/ a winning record vs. Gagliard?

Not if Pagel has anything to say about it.  ;D

Haver there been any Kurt Ramler sightings?
I asked Caruso this summer if he had any idea where Ramler is and he had no idea.

According to Kickoff, the worst conference is the ECFC.  Get your facts straight. :P

Johnnie Red

Faunch, I just ran into Mike Ramler, Kurt's brother and also a former Johnnie player, over the noon hour at the Chaska Community Center. Next time I see Mike I will get an update on what his brother is doing.

Oh, their schedule has been fools gold so far. L&C this weekend is their first real test.

And yes Trinity Bible is terrible. Interesting connection between Mac and TB. I believe they were the two teams that Northwestern played a few years back for the first ever college football 'double header.' Translation, NWC knew both were so bad that their JV could play 85% of the game against Trinity and Mac wouldn't present a challenge.  :o

I just went on a rant on the Pool B thread. The questions was whether a 10-0 Mac team should get a shot at the playoffs. I said no, partly because their schedule would stink, but more because they've got a clear route to the playoffs. Win the Pool A in their rightful conference like the rest of the MIAC is trying to do. A 10-0 Mac doesn't deserve an at large more than a 9-1 or 8-2 MIAC team does.

But again, I only want them back if they can compete. I'm with Duff and Bench, the 8 game conference schedule is nice right now. We don't need another Hamline thrown into the mix each year.

Just to help you with your trivia...Ellendale is about an hour west of Wahpeton-Breckenridge, or about a half-hour north of Aberdeen, SD (both assume you're driving about 80 MPH). Population just under 1400. Big summer event is "Rodeo Days". I know this only because I played in a band for a bar dance during Rodeo Days the summer after high school graduation - 1979. The whole scene was like a bizarre cut from a David Lynch movie.
