There were a couple UWEC miscues that helped out, but UW-Platteville had some impressive drives, and they held the big fullback to 100 yards.  On paper they are the most impressive team UWEC has faced so far.  With what happened UWW last week maybe there will be a changing of the guard.

The trick is to see if any of these can avoid resembling a MASH unit by week 9. The WIAC is probably the most physical league Division III, so those teams that start strong, don't always finish that way.

Additionally, I'm not so sure that UW-Platteville's defense is all that decent. I know Dubuque was a playoff team last year, but they certainly aren't a WIAC caliber squad, and their QB put up big numbers on UWP.

UD's got a pretty legit offense and their QB is pretty highly regarded. So I'm not sure what it says about UWP's defense.

But yeah, the biggest issue in the WIAC is staying healthy. Say what we will about UWW losing to Buff State, I've still got to believe they've built the best depth in the league over the course of 3 straight Nat'l Championships. That may be what keeps them above the pack come years end. But they'll have to top UWSP and UWP over the next two weeks. We'll know real soon if UWW is really vulnerable or not.

You know...this board was a lot more active when SJU had all the bragging rights.

It was like tequila...made me a little sick but I kept coming back for more.

Here's to a great game in the Jake today!
If the human brain were so simple that we could fully understand it...we would be so simple that we couldn't.

Hope SJU can bounce back today-play like the first 25 minutes of last week amd not the final 35 minutes.

Good analogy...all of the SJU back patting was a little nauseating at times, but there was much more to talk about...

I wonder how much of the Johnnies' recent futility is a result of an old-school coaching staff missing the mark from a communication perspective with a new generation of athlete that has grown up in the "Everyone look at me" culture of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, et al??
I know Gagliardi and subordinate coaches have dealt with this for decades now--so it is certainly not an impossible task--but I believe there is a massive adjustment to be made in the way these kids communicate.

Heck, I know that even I am behind the times--and I am only 27--because I begrudgingly registered for a Twitter account last week.

John's message doesn't have to change, but the way in which it is transmitted needs to change.

What would a talented student athlete think if he had @JohnGagliardi tweet a positive comment about his performance in Friday night's game? I know the thought of a soon-to-be 86-year-old on Twitter may be laughable to some of us, but it can make all of the difference for a kid that's thinking about SJU.

Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

I agree about more talent. My criticism is there are new tools out there to help us get said talent, and that we aren't using them effectively.

Bad snap on the punt. Skoog recovers on the Knight 22.

Or Brian, maybe this SJU team isn't all that good-so not a let down, just this is what they are.

I don't like listening to the Johnnies lose, but I hate listening to theM make mistakes. I can't stand the thinking errors. Bad decisions really get under my skin. You get beat, well you get beat. You make bad decisions, then you give the other side the victory and cheat yourself.  Frustrating.

It's also possible they're making errors because they're outgunned. Maybe not. But TO's and bad decisions often happen when you play teams that are better than you. I'm sure the Cobber's would like to think they played a small part in those decisions and had a hand in winning as well. Not picking a fight...just sayin'

The

It's purely an issue of talent....this same coaching staff won national championship in 2003.  The problem is we're not bringing in enough talent and that is the fault of thaw staff from John on down.  F-ING embarrassing!

SJU football under Gags has ruled the MIAC for several decades. Given the results of last season and an 0-2 MIAC record thus far this season, might we be watching the end of the Johnnie football era in the MIAC? Are the Johnnies returning to the pack? Has SJU football become a program that will vie for conference championships occasionally rather than always being the team to beat?

The johnnie era ended in 2009; yes, but Bethel and St. Thomas have risen above the pack; yes.

You're not allowed to talk publicly about recruits before they have paid their deposit, IIRC, so this would be a violation.
