Right or wrong, the SJU fans are worked up, six decades of success set a pretty high bar.  In looking at a bigger window, it will be interesting to see how things will shake out a few years down the road when Gagliardi and Caruso are gone.
Who says either one are leaving anytime soon? Caruso has a young family that would take priority over another job, he's got it pretty good at UST and he knows that. John will be around as long as he wants to be. I would say it's a better bet that either one or both will still be here when the 2015 season kicks off ;)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Wow,
I guess I should have hopped on this thread a while ago.
Is Fisher top ten material seems to be a hot topic.
I think we will know for sure in 2 weeks when they play Salisbury.
For now- they are according to the polls, but prove it wrong.
The OOC schedule was strong- not one cupcake.
And to UST Bench, the team that you saw last year is different, and much improved.
You are as bad as the pollsters that hate and  blame for giving Fisher the benefit of last years success.

Maybe Caruso knows that he's got it good (loved by players, alums, the powers-that-be...probably would take one helacious scandal or several years of mediocrity to get fired, etc.), then again, he's 38 and may want to see what he can accomplish at a different level. Who knows?

Gags is 85. 500 is just a number, and he has long since ran away with a record that will never be touched. Most men don't get a head coaching job at the college level until they hit their 40s. I'd hate to see him flirting with being novelty when the legacy is fully in tact, and that's coming from a Tommie.

And here's a question, what's the contingency plan for SJU if, god forbid, Gags becomes gravely ill or just dies? Even worse, what if something happens midseason? Does Jimmy become interim coach, automatic head coach? Do they conduct a nationwide search, with the very akward elephant in the room that is Jimmy Gagliardi?

Not if St. John Fisher is in the top 10.

Amen. I realize it's last year, but the team I saw against UST was not top 10 talent. And I have to think they are ranked their right now in part because of how they finished last year.

Right, and I think that while any polling is subject to previous year bias, division 3 polls are even more succeptible because of the nature of the league as compared to higher divisions, where there is much more coverage and understanding of what a team will bring into the new season.

CORD and BU probably aren't as far apart as the poll suggests currently, but because CORD was 6-4 last year and BU was 8-2, CORD didn't get any pre-season love and will require more time to get to where they should be in the polls.

We'll see how close they really are this weekend. Playing at Bethel, I'm not so sure Concordia has the horses to compete. Beating Buena Vista and Jamestown college convincingly does nothing for me. SJU is down, and STO is perrenially overrated (BEST WR CORPS IN THE MIAC!!!!!!...yeah...no) I say Bethel delivers a low scoring win. 19 to 10, somewhere in that range.

BU Cobber game is next weekend in arden hills (Oct. 6th).  I agree the score could be low, but the cobbers usually like to get killed by 2 or 3 halfback TD passes before getting on the bus back to Moorhead.  I will go with Cobbers play smart and grind out a 17-13 win in Arden Hills.  Then the cobbers may get 11 votes in the next weekly poll at D3.com.  If the cobbers do win at bethel, the royals will still be ranked above them.

Just trolling the SJF base. SJU isn't any fun to piss off anymore.

Breaking with recent trends, this Bethel team doesn't need to pitch it to the half-back to throw the ball down field.  Also, this year's defense may be exceptional.  The Cobbs may keep it competitive, but I'd be very surprised.

The Cobbs have won 2 games at Bethel in the last 20 years, but they were both against Bethel teams that finished 5-5.  This year's squad is not one of those.  Only time will tell, but I know I like what I see a whole lot.

Prior to last weekend, the Cobbs also hadn't beaten SJU in Moorhead since 1986... :o

Who's better? You have to remember there's typically a pretty big drop-off after the first half-dozen teams or so. SOMEONE has to be No. 10.

Bethel, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Platteville, Baldwin-Wallace, Concordia-Moorhead, Williamette, Whitworth, Lewis and Clark, anybody else in the WIAC, several HS teams in Texas and California, my old law school flag football team, 11 octogenarians with Parkinson's.

Okay, maybe not the last few squads, but definitely half the WIAC, the top 1/3 of the MIAC, most of the NWC, the top 1/3 of the OAC, and many other schools.

Right now, I'd lean Bethel (no bias there right  ;D), UWO, UWP, maybe even Hobart. By seasons end, I could see BW, Cobbers, North Central, IWU and Wartburg being teams I'd pick over SJF.

I'll admit, I'm still influenced by what I saw last December in St. Paul. And maybe this SJF team is better. It certainly happens. For me though, the results of the first few weeks haven't given me the sense of the top 10 team. Good teams find a way to win, and they're doing just that. However, they are sqeaking by in a few too many games for me to see top 10.

Best part about all of this...the next few months will bear it out on the field! We don't have to worry about any polls crowning our National champ  :)

Let's see what happens in 2 Weeks, then decide what you think of fisher.  Till then worry about your own conference.

Change of subject....
On Frank's live chat yesterday (sctimes.com) there was some discussion regarding D1 and D2 transfers to D3.  The Johnnies and a number of other MIAC teams have benefited from transfers over the years.  My question is are D3 coaches able to keep contact or make contact w/ players that currently enrolled at or on a roster at a D1 or D2 school?
My guess is that D1 or 2 coaches wouldn't want D3 coaches communicating with their players (and that the NCAA doesn't allow it).  However a coach might actually welcome a scholarship or partial scholarship player that isn't working out deciding to make a change to a D3 school.  Is it typically up the player interested in transferring to make contact w/ a D3 program?

According to Frank R.- Bruns is out for at least 2 weeks with a separated right (throwing) shoulder & SJU isn't likely to announce a starting QB prior to Saturday.

Also a team that will finish 5-5?  No, don't really think that, but you probably catch my drift. ;)

Yes and no. Typically yes but often coaches may keep up with players they recruited but who went elsewhere. And also coaches may reach out through, let's say, back channels.
