From my perspective, it appears that the offensive side at SJU this year has been completely clueless. Sadly though, it's not just this year. It's becoming a pattern. It's really not a talent issue, or a recruiting issue, as far as I can tell. It's a coaching issue. Last week when the first couple of series didn't go completely as planned or hoped, it was obvious that whatever was supposed to be a game plan, was abandoned in a panic and the play calling became a shoot-from-the-hip affair. The offensive coordinator, like Barney Fife, keeps shooting himself in the foot. That has to change before SJU football will ever return to respectability.

The coaching staff has been playing it close to the vest in who will get the start at QB,but the SCTimes mentioned 3 QBs (all who came in last week after the injury) may see playing time. Buy your tickets for the QB Carousel   :-\

Doesn't Ryan Keating have at least one more year of eligibility? :P

Because that worked out so well last year.  :o

Exactly! This is just one more example of the utter cluelessness on display.

The SC Times blog http://www.sctimesinteractive.com/blogs/sju-football-thursday-update-4  says that Martin is likely to start.  It also mentions that others could see time, but if Martin is effective, I can't imagine they'd pull him?

He is 7-9 with 3 TD- 62yard ave. & a long of 95yards- a 419.2 efficiency- pretty good number with limited action.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Your guess is as good as mine, but I think we'll see them commit a bit more to the run, but I don't think they'll abandone the air completely.  Of course, it seems like the o-line can't pass block or run block, so maybe they'll just take a knee three times and punt every possession.
When I read that I had a couple of visions. Gruden analyzing the play selection, & hearing the comment in Carl's (Caddyshack) voice!

MIAC moves up to best ever conference ranking of 3rd.

Pat and Keith appreciated the 14-0 non-conference record, and put the MIAC ahead of the E8 with their overrated Fisher team.

St. John's has declined a bit in the past few years, but the conference is better than ever, (at least relative to everybody else).

Here's the $64K question about the Johnnies tomorrow. With the inability to get a running game going & Bruns out with an injury, what type of game is going to be called from the press-box?Does SJU keep trying to establish a running game & not have a back up QB try to do too much or keep throwing the ball because that is what has moved the ball thus-far in the season?

I think the Johnnies will certainly be able to mix more run into a balanced attack and be effective against STO. They will need to, because I believe the Oles will also be able to move the ball effectively. Gut tells me SJU by 14.

I know some people see upset potential for the Auggies over Bethel. I guess I can understand where someone could get that idea, but it seems a bit out of touch with reality. The only way Bethel bows in this one is if they do some major beating themselves (turnovers, defensive lapses). They are strong, fast, and well coached on both offense and defense. Bethel by at least 20.

Less that 24 hours and we'll know this year's champion.  Hawthorn vs Sydney.  The two best teams of the year.  Hawthorn topped the league in scoring by a mile, Sydney were the top defense.  Finesse vs defensive discipline.  It will be an exciting game.

EDIT:  I've just completed my fist official AFL Grand Final dinner. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity. I say once in a lifetime because that as many times as a sane person would do it.  I'm a little pumped for the game tomorrow. I've got a pretty good seat toward the the wing. Go Hawks!  I'm pretty apprehensive, to be honest. I hope the boys are in bed having a good rest right about now.
Good luck to the Swans and Hawks. I don't have a dog in the fight so I'm just hoping for a good game. Been following the sport for a few years now and it's absolutely fantastic. If I ever visit Australia I really want to go to a game. Just wish the tv rights here in the US didn't change this past season because now I can't watch any games, at least I can stream radio from the AFL site but it's just not the same.

Check out the world of pirated TV.  The game will be under the sports section at www.justin.tv.  First bounce in 3 hours and 20 minutes.

HEARTACHE!!!   My first Grand Final live and in person and the Hawks blow it by 10 points. Sydney played very well and Hawthorn crumbled in a pile of bad decision making.  Argh.

I've finally taken the time to find this quote from Gagliardi, this in a NYT article:

... [H]e always says, 'I'm looking for ordinary guys to do ordinary things extraordinarily well.' ...

I bring this quote up because I'm not looking for better recruiting, but who would complain about that, but I'm looking for better execution. We're not doing the ordinary things extraordinarily well. If we play smart and lose, well we got beat an that happens.  If we make mental mistakes and lose, well we threw the game away and that's a real disappointment.

To be clear, I'm unhappy with the losing but we need to accept it from time to time. But I'm disappointed in the last three years of mental mistakes an how they have continued this year. That's the issue that needs to be addressed, not the recruiting. Because we we recruit the worlds greatest players and they still make mental mistakes then we're still going to lose.

And the Hawks are in the Grand Final this weekend!  Woohoo!  I've got a couple options to go to it. Lucky to be me. A biiiiig Saturday night is coming up.

Oh my...when I logged onto D3 today, there was an ad for some YouTube video productions showing 2 naked women in a tub or pool with the tagline "Ordinary people doing extraordinary things".  Is the keyword search for advertising really that spot on??
