It's the thinking mistakes that get to me, MRF, and you have listed them very well.  These mental errors frustrate me because they indicate we're not in control of our own destiny, that we're reacting to the game rather than making the game react to us.

This year, and the Ole game in particular, has really demonstrated how we're trailing events rather than leading them.  And it's not apparent that the trend is changing yet.  Hence: frustration.

And one of your examples, the spiking the ball and then calling timeout, really demonstrates to me that our problem is not recruiting, although better recruits are always better.  Our decision making is struggling.  Improving the decision making will get the best of what we have.  Until we're there, having better is just more wasted potential.

But maybe I'm too hard in saying that there are no signs of decision making improving.  We don't have the QB shuffle this year.  And the coaches aren't ignorant of the need for better decision making, so if Haugen feels he must send a hard message with third stringers who think, then that's something.

One, I would like to thank Tony Romo and the rest of the Dallas Cowboys for handing me a pickems victory this week!

Two, I am ready to make my Cobber prediction for this saturday in Arden Hills.  Even without seeing the Cobbs play this year I keep hearing the defense has played very well and consistently.  They will need to continue the trend to beat Bethel.

With the timeout at the end of the game, I think that must have been the play after the false start. There would be a 10-second runoff on the clock or you use a timeout. They took the timeout to save the time, the right call since it gave them a chance to run a play toward the end zone, but it also cost them their last timeout, so they had to make sure it was either in the end zone or sideline, couldn't do anything else.

Does it seem like the last two years there have been about 28 killer false start penalties? I mean they all hurt but lately it seems they always come on like 4th and 1 (St. Thomas game) or at the end of the game or just in the worst moments.

Leaving the game Saturday, it was really the first time I felt sort of "let down" by the program, especially coaches, as I was feeling it.  I somehow didn't feel good about the "game plan" let's call it.  I don't know how to describe it.  The game slipped away and it shouldn't have.

As we walked out of the stadium, John was coming out of the "press box" (on the almighty Rhino Deck!)and I all of a sudden was struck by the "disconnect" of having your head coach up in the box and not down on the sidelines.  I made a remark like that to my wife, the Bennie and life long Johnnie fan, and she told me to hush up, it was heresy!!

Over the last couple of years, it's seemed kind of "quaint" to have the coach sit in the box when it was too hot or too cold.  Saturday, it kind of bugged me.  And I love John too.  But all of a sudden it didn't seem right.  We needed a head coach on the field.

Mad Red Fan:
I appreciate your candor and tend to agree with much of what you've shared.  Although I was not at Saturday's game I have had similar concerns about leadership.  I attend about 10 or more high school football games a year and a handful of college games.  Usually it's very clear to everyone involved who is in charge on the sidelines in those games.  It's clear who is making the decisions.  I don't really know if that's the case with red team from Collegeville.

I'm not giving a score prediction. But I think this'll be a very hard fought, physical game. Both Bethel and Concordia have historically left each other bruised and bloodied, and both seem to like it just that way! I loved playing the Cobbers for this very reason. It was just a gut check. You knew what they were going to do and they knew you did. The Cobbers offense can kill a team that isn't coached well and has a bad scheme. When the D has those though, it's just a gritty battle for both sides. Exactly how football should be played.

I think it is going to be a tight one as well.  A lot would seem to depend on BU's ability to get their running game together with a shuffled o-line.  If the cobbers can pound away with their big back, it could be a long day for the defense if the O can't sustain some drives.

A tough Auggie team, followed by CORD, followed by UST....I sure wish that Bethel had a bye week in there somewhere.

Ok.  Now I'm getting that Viagra ad non-stop and I'm becoming paranoid.  I don't remember seeing it at all until BDB brought it up and someone said the ads are targeted.  I'm feeling rather deflated by this attention.

It's not just their big fullback- the QB has good ball handling (disguising) skills & can pitch out to their speed backs for big gains down the sidelines if the D doesn't stay home.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!
