God's Country....enjoy!

http://www.stthomas.edu/news/2012/10/09/depth-of-field-eye-in-the-sky/

Stunningly beautiful photography.  No doubt, St. Thomas has a beautiful campus, especially for an urban setting.  As a (very) amateur architecture critic my only complaint would be two Anderson buildings.  I don't care for their massive scale.  I understand being landlocked position necessitated the scale.

I agree they are amazing pictures (you get what you pay for) and UST is obviously sparing no expense.  I can't even imagine what a photo shoot like this would cost.    As for calling it God's Country...I live in and love St. Paul but don't think I'd go that far.  And I agree w/ ROR on the Anderson buildings...I was just in there a couple weeks ago...reminds me of what an addition to the MOA would be like.  I'm surprised UST didn't attach a hotel onto that thing.

I've been hearing the rumblings, too. This could be huge news.

I'm so glad I don't live in that part of the country any more. :-\

The utopian nonsense found in the quotes from the athletic directors and other administrators in that article are so out of touch it makes me want to puke.  If you don't have consequences for misconduct that outweigh the benefit of not getting caught, then indiscipline like that demonstrated by the kid in question will be the norm and not the exception.  If we've moved on from the "corporal punishment" of running kids for doing dumb things, then what have we supposedly moved on to that's so much better?  What a bunch of self-righteous drivel!

Rant over...feel better now.

Oz you are correct!  Now in all fairness, I can't say SJU was really the first, however it was one of the first teams to broadcast a live stream.  It happened back when they put in the SprinTurf initially, they had a web cam that you could watch as they tore out the grass field and put in the plastic.  They then kept it active for a year or two for the games, it didn't move much and I think you could only see touchdowns on the scoreboard end of the field, but they did broadcast.  Then it mystreriously went away.... Maybe the ghost of brother Willy took it away!!!!!! ;D

I agree.

There was a time when I pissed off my high school football coach by sacking the QB from the blindside during a practice.  Stupid of me, I know, but he went out with my girlfriend so I had a score to settle :D.  Anyway I got reemed out at the practice but afterward he called me into his office, had me bend over and smacked me hard on the ass with his fraternity paddle.  He hit me so hard that it knocked me off balance and drove my head into a locker.  I had a welt on my butt for a week afterward.  I didn't even tell my parents because I figured my father would have told me that I had it coming.  I don't condone this sort of thing but the incident provides an interesting contrast to the story.  Running laps or windsprints instead would have been considerably less painful. Calling it akin to corporal punishment is absurd.

Also, how the heck do you upload a profile picture?  I don't look like Alanis Morsette and I have zero clue how to create a web site to link my picture too.....HELP!

I can't believe they'd make kids exercise at an athletic practice. The nerve.

When Reusse starts dropping not-so-subtle hints that Mike Grant is already signed and sealed as the heir apparent, I'm inclined to believe him but do want to throw out another name as a dark horse candidate.  Greg Seibert, SJU '96, head coach of the Pensacola Catholic High School Crusaders.  Runs a very successful program and would open up recruiting lines to Florida.  Never seen him without an SJU football cap on, even on game nights.  On the remotest chance that it might happen, you heard it here first...;)

"Legendary'' doesn't do justice to St. John's football coach John Gagliardi. He's the all-timer as winner, innovator and unique personality.

There are growing hints this season _ John's 60th at Collegeville _ is going to be his last. We should know more by this time next week.

If and when Gag announces his retirement, there will be aggressive coaching search that figures to start _ & probably end _ in Eden Prairie.

For those not on Twitter, Pat Reusse dropped the above earlier this morning. There's been plenty of speculation on these boards and with Frank on his weekly chats. This though is the first time it's been addressed by someone not "connected" to the program. Though Reusse is a big MIAC supporter and is plugged in.
Ive always said I wouldnt want to be the guy that replaces John---- I want to be the guy that replaces that guy....as far as hiring Grant goes--ask Notre Dame or Hamline how hiring a nationally known high school coach works out.  Plus I dont see grant giving up the cu$h $etup he has at EPH$ ..close circuit to tom stock-- roney is available  :)

Gordy Shaw is looking to get back to Minnesota, seems like a great fit for SJU.

Guys, you're all missing the obvious...Lou Holtz! Catholic connections, pedigree. And at at 75 he's got over a decade before he'd be too old to coach at SJU  ;D

And can you imagine how much fun it would be to hear him pronounce Thaint Thomath with that wonderful lisp of his  ;)

On the Gagliardi rumors ...
Posted on October 11, 2012 by Frank Rajkowski

As one might expect, I've had a number of people ask me today about a rumor or report that's circulating in regard to St. John's football coach John Gagliardi being close to making an announcement about retirement.

I've even heard from a couple of former players asking about it. And it's a topic that always sets off fire alarm bells here in the newsroom, as you can imagine.

Speculation about when Gagliardi might hang it up is nothing new, of course. I've been chasing down rumors on that front since I first took over this beat in 2000.

Not sure where the origins of this one were, or what the merits of it are.

All I can report is that I just spoke to Gagliardi, who said he has no plans to make an announcement about his future in the next week. He said he is focused on Saturday's game against Carleton in which the Johnnies will try to snap the first four-game single season losing streak at the school since 1930.

I also spoke to St. John's athletic director Tom Stock, who said he isn't aware of any forthcoming announcement, and that the school has no plans in place for any kind of announcement on this front in the near future.

Truthfully, I haven't heard anything either on or off the record that would lead me to believe some kind of announcement is iminent. And believe me, for the sake of my current employment, I wouldn't sit on information on this topic if I had it.

By his own admission, Gagliardi seriously thought about retirement last year, but elected to return for his 60th season in Collegeville – and his 64th as a collegiate head coach – this fall.

It's been a long season for his team, and Gagliardi – who turns 86 on Nov. 1 – has always taken losses pretty hard. This year has been no exception. So would I be shocked if this was the year the retirement announcement finally came? No. Certainly not.

But I also wouldn't be surprised if he eventually elected to come back for another year either.

At any rate, the man himself said he has no plans to make any announcement on that front – at least in the next week anyway. And I'd be surprised if there was an announcement from him either way prior to the end of the season. Though if that changes, we certainly will report it.

We'll see. For now, all I can report is that Gagliardi and Stock both said there are no plans for any kind of announcement in the immediate future.

So, that's all I know about that.

I'm betting that however Gags retires, whenever Gags retires, it's going to be quick. Like ripping off a Band-Aid.

Don't expect a "Goodbye Gags" farewell tour.

I think there's a good reason to do it that way. Florida State saw how much the on-field performance suffered during Bobby Bowden's farewell tour.
