If I was one of the powers-that-be at SJU, I'd probably want to bring in Wallie Kuchinski for an interview, the UST d-coordinator.

He played at Bemidji State, coached a year at Concordia-St. Paul, was the recruiting coordinator at Truman State, and has turned UST into one of the best defenses in the nation. Guy knows the area and knows what he's doing. Plus...he's young.

Probably won't happen, and I'd hate it if it did, but it'd be a nice coup for SJU.

Can't disagree with that...he knows how to recruit and coach players.  Would be tough to just toss Gary and Jerry to the scrap heap.

Well, Saturday turned out well.  Although the Johnnies lost the Double Monkey Stomp-Out, it was still a convincing and much-needed win.  I managed a nice rooster Saturday morning, as well.

A tradition unrivaled...

Nice rooster.  The group of 4 I hunted in shot 8 roosters in 2 days.  We probably saw around 40 birds total.

Looking at the MIAC standings.  When was the last time this far into the season the top 5 teams have a total of 5 losses.

I am hopeful the cobber defense can control augsburg offense this saturday.  Could be a good game that ends with a cobber win.

Gus Davis's loss cost the MIAC the chance to go 18-0 in non-conference regular season play.  The conference is 15-1 with Augsburg and Hamline both having games left against Mac.

WashedUp, don't you mean GodSaveUs? ??? Always enjoy these Johnnie connections. I am out in Glencoe today for court. Went down to the lunchroom for a snack and heard a fellow talking to two other guys at the table about the Johnnie homecoming game against St. Olaf. I had to ask if he was a Johnnie. Answer was yes, class of 1995. Turns out he is the county administrator for McLeod County.

Tweeted the following to Reusse today:
@1500ESPN_Reusse So when should we expect the Gagliardi retirement announcement? Word out of C-ville is no plans for announcement.

His response:
Not happening, apparently. Everyone basking in glow of Carleton victory. RT @gojohnnies2: When should we expect Gagliardi retirement news?

I think he's full of it.

What a moron.

Reckless and irresonsible if his tweets last week were done w/out information from a reliable source.

The Auggies are playing good football right now but it will be another tough test for them against Concordia.

I'm continuing my independent research on how other Division III schools approach the responsibility for recruiting student athletes.
I'm looking at the Final Four from the 2011 season and SJU. Faunch started on this topic last week and I'm expanding on it.

What I have found is the clear ability of a potential student athlete, a parent or a high school coach to contact the appropriate person at the Final Four schools.
UW-Whitewater
Mount Union
Wesley
St. Thomas
SJU

Notice how UWW,Mount Union & UST list phone numbers, email addresses and area of recruiting responsibility. Wesley lists phone number and email addresses. SJU lists email addresses of some of the assistant coaches. There appears to be a clear defined area of responsibility on the part of UWW,Mount Union & UST, similar to a sales territory for a company.

The question I have is how long would it take SJU to get serious results with a defined recruiting plan with greater publicity and relationship building with the coaching community within each territory?

Is it too late to "right the ship" for the 2013 season?
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Anyone find it odd that Augsburg is only receiving 1 vote in the D3 pole(ranked 42nd)? They're receiving more votes in the AFCA(ranked 32nd). The Cobbers are ranked 21st in the AFCA, and recieving votes with D3(rankted 28th).

I realize it didn't help either of them that BU lost in a big way; but you'd think the Auggies would be getting a little more love.

I'm just happy that BU played Augsburg early. They seem to be getting much better every week.

The winner of this weeks game should get a good jump in the polls.
