How many losses will it take for UW-Whitewater to be voted outside the Top 25 poll?  I still believe the loss to Buffalo State should have knocked them into the teens or twenties, but I also understand that it was a fluke based on their recent dominance.  Still it's definately not the case in the FBS college system.  Arkansas was ranked around #8 or so to begin the year, 1 loss to a horrible team and out of the top 25 they go.

Anyway, a nice win for the Cobbers this weekend at Auggie Tech and now to take care of business vs. Carelton this week.

TOTALLY off topic....but any of you Johnnies or Bennie...is there a statue to Kateri Tekakwitha on the SJU campu, kinda hear the lowest levels of the Prep School?   if so, she was cannonized today

I think there's something recognizing her on one of the paths out to chapel on the lake.
thanks...i was pretty sure I remembered correctly

It's a very nice statue, which was on the path overlooking the Sag. According to this article, it's been there since 1956:
"A gift from St. Olaf parish, Minneapolis, and its pastor, Father Leonard P. Cowley, the sculptured stone piece of art was formerly seen outside the old St. Olaf Church (before it was destroyed by fire several years ago).  The new and enlarged church was built over the spot where the statue had rested."
If you walk out the bottom (south?) doors of the Prep School and onto the path straight toward the lake, you'll bump into it.

I still think that UWW is better than a bunch of teams we currently have in the poll. So do -- well, 22 other voters.

I suspect, from looking at the splits in our poll between coaches, SIDs and media, that UWW will be further down in the AFCA poll.

So.....I hate to look down the road too far, (as Bethel has a couple of loseable games remaining) but how would the MIAC tie breakers / final standings work out assuming BU wins out their remaining three games, and the Cobbers knock off UST, but UST wins their other games?

Any other highly possible hypothetical situations I'm missing?

Does MIAC still do the automatic bid goes to the team that has had the longest stint between playoff appearances? If so, Concordia would get the automatic if they all have 1 loss. I think. Maybe. I'm sure Pat knows.

Im not Pat, but I know the answer   :)

In the event of a two-way tie, head to head breaks the tie

In the event of a three-way tie, head to head is first criteria. In the example Gold & Blue laid out, the three teams would all be 1-1 in head to head (this is the most common outcome in a 3-way tie).  the second criteria is to award the auotmatic berth to the team which has gone the longest since appearing in the playoffs. This year, any team ending up tied with UST & BU would be awarded the automatic berth, including the Cobbers.

If the scenario Gold & Blue lays out were to play out, I think UST would still get a Pool C berth, unless the loss to Concordia was a blowout. Its possible that both UST and BU could get in via Pool C but that would be a bit of a stretch.

I'd say its in BU's best interest for UST to beat Concordia, unless UST loses to Augsburg (or subsequently loses to St Olaf)....then BU would hold the head to head tiebreaker over Concordia should the Cobbers pin a 2nd loss on UST. And THAT would make the wild endning of the CC-BB game even more weighty, as the penalty would not only have cost the Cobbers the game but the outright conference championship!

PS- thanks Fins..especially for the photo of the statue.  it brought back a few memories, for sure.
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

UST and BU at 9-1 are pool C locks barring a large number of upsets.  The SOS for the MIAC is the best its ever been thanks to an undefeated non-conference slate-Valley City State doesn't count and Macalester seems unlikely to knock off Augsburg or Hamline--well maybe Hamline.

Bethel would also have a victory over a regionally ranked Concordia team.

The MIAC's SOS would be huge in this scenario. As would both UST and Bethel having wins over regionally ranked opponents. UST would be in great shape. Not so sure I'd say Bethel would be at this point. They'd be in good shape, but there's no such thing as a lock if you haven't won your league.

It would be very interesting to see a year with 3 MIAC teams in the playoffs. (Either Bethel or UST would be a prime candidate to get shipped North in this scenario) But I'd rather just be assured that Bethel makes it  :D No bias there...

Also, if UST does lose to Concordia or Augsburg (I'm feeling pretty safe assuming they'll beat Olaf) I'm not sure Mount goes East. It would still make sense, but Hobart has a better argument for a #1 seed against just Coe and UWO than against UST, Coe & UWO. I think an unbeaten Linfield gets a #1 seed. They've got a great win over CalLu and would have won a strong NWC. And just to be clear, I think an unbeaten UST, Linfield and UWO would have better #1 seed resumes than Hobart. Mount and UMHB are locks at this point if they hold serve.

I know it's a little more than a week away but is there any interest in a pre-game social prior to the SJU / Hamline  game?  I've got a Piper buddy that lives near me in Highland and we discussed possibly hosting a little pre-game at one of our homes.  Shoot me a message or email if there's any interest.  There might be a chance of some BBQ smoked pork or brisket.   :D
