My gut reaction after yesterday's games is that both Concordia and Bethel don't stand a chance for post season aspirations. But if we look at next week's games we all see the probability that St. Olaf will get hammered by the Tommies, just like the Cobbers yesterday and the Royals did earlier in the season. The Cobbers should win over Gustavus and Bethel should win against the Johnnies - but anything can happen and it usually does. Over on the Pool C discussion board the SOS scores and other such things are posted for the remaining bids for the dance at the end of the season. There it still looks probable that the MIAC might get 3 schools into the post-season - but, and it's a big but, some other teams close to them in percentage points used by the selection committee have to stumble in this last week of play. Somewhere out there a fat lady is getting ready to sing, and then we'll know what's what for the post season.

I love the optimism, but no one on the Pool C board is talking the MIAC getting 3 teams in.

They were when it looked like Bethel would only have one loss. Now they are saying we may only get one. It's simply too convoluted right now nationally to predict who gets in without the Week 11 results to bring at least some clarity. I'd be very surprised if the MIAC got 3 (although I'd love to see it), more likely one, maybe two.

St Olaf is a good football team this year, should do good in the postseason, let see how far they can make it in the playoffs.

Ummm, yeah  ::)

St. Olaf has to beat UST next week to even get on the board for the postseason. Before that happens, it's more than a bit premature to start talking about how well they'll do in the postseason. This kind of analysis could explain why the message board you linked to gets such high volume traffic  ;D

AO, I know and that is sort of my point.

Because the west has many of the strongest Pool C candidates, I was wondering what the likelihood of shifting a team that likely would be in the "west" or Linfield bracket out to the "north" or Oskosh bracket.

The subliminal question was, assuming that the Tommies are #2 in the "west" bracket, is St. Thomas going to piss pound the Saints again this year or might they get someone else?

They definitely could get someone else, no doubt. Anyone within 500 miles who doesn't have a home game of its own is at least in theory a candidate to get sent to St. Thomas. We will take a look at more possibilities later in the week.

They could also ship a number of North region teams to Coe

Not that I really care that much.....however...Not a chance Olaf wins this weekend.

There's a chance St. Olaf gets into the regional rankings this week ahead of Lake Forest.  If we don't see Widener or Waynesburg lose on Saturday, I see the pool C teams as being, Elmhurst, Rowan, Huntingdon, Heidelberg, Ohio Wesleyan, Pacific Lutheran and somebody else.  Bethel or Concordia (if St. Olaf is ranked)  will be fighting for that spot with Wabash, Wheaton and Louisiana College.

Does anyone know the status of the Noehring, Byrd, Toney or Duncan injuries?

I also noticed Woodrow, Whitley, and Vasquez were not on the field.

Also, I haven't seen Josh Carey on the field since the 4th game (Carleton).  They've moved Chinni Oji to safety to replace him.  Assuming Carey suffered a season ending injury, would he qualify for a medical redshirt?

You may want to contact the SID at UST directly to get the straight talk on these injuries. Unless there is a coach or family member or student assistant on this board you'll just get speculation here.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

That's pure conjecture.

What exactly is "conjecture" here?

So will they be playing hip hop and rap music at the Bethel stadium this Saturday when the Johnnies come to town like they did last Saturday at Hamline and a few weeks back at Auggie Tech? We will be having a tailgate party outside the stadium this Saturday so join us if you like.

Well, you certainly won't get Hell's Bells played through the loudspeakers while the home team is on D like Olaf did this last week. It's one thing to pump in noise. It's another to leave the music cranking while the opposing team is at the line of scrimmage. On a few occasions, RoyalBU reported the music continued through the ball being snapped. Stay classy Olaf  :P And for the record, I don't think that had anything to do with Bethel losing. We get the blame for that. Just a general trend in keeping with the atmosphere you typically get from the Olaf fans and players. I'd like to think MIAC teams and fans are better than that. At the very least, the school representatives running the sound should be.

Olaf getting ranked would be a big boost for both Bethel, UST and Concordia. It would help UST's bid for a #1 seed. Likely 3-0 against RRO.

Bethel and Concordia both then end up 1-2 against RRO. Wabash's biggest issue is two losses against average teams. Wheaton's Albion loss doesn't look nearly as bad as it did earlier in the season. Louisiana College still has a stiff test against Hardin-Simmons this week.

Strength of Schedule

Pacific Lutheran: .625 - should be locked in, last game is against NAIA Menlo, which I don't think factors in
Bethel: .585 - not moving much with SJU
Wabash: .561 - trending down with DePauw
Wheaton: .558 - trending down with North Park
Louisiana College: .505 - gets a bump with H-S
Wittenberg: .420 - but a one loss team, still have to beat Oberlin, who upset Wabash last week

It's gonna be an exciting Saturday and pins and needles Sunday waiting to see what the Committee does.

at least they eventually stop playing the music.  Try going to a wolves game, the music/annoying PA guy does not stop.  Went into the concourse and they had another DJ blaring music for the people waiting in line.  I'm a believer in loud music, but you really lose your shock and awe effect if the music is playing constantly.
