Hazzben,

Has that every been a problem at St. Thomas?

I'm honestly just wondering what its like to be an opposing team fan there.  Thanks, I'll hang up and listen from home.

I'll chime in on that one...at UST for the playoff game in 2010 all of the UST fans that I encountered in the main seating section were very friendly and just seemed excited to watch what was likely to be a close game.  I was on the edge of the BU seating section closest to the UST fan base and had no complaints at all about that group.

However, I spent a quarter or so standing on the opposite side talking to some friends while we stood underneath the big money seats on the other side and things weren't quite the same there.  Lots of nasty things being said to players / support staff by the folks who were afforded such close access to the visiting team.

That was my experience.

Sitting on the UST west sideline seats during the regular season, no problem. During the playoff game, standing below the big money seats (next to oAs I should add) there was a decent amount of derogatory stuff hurled at the Bethel bench and support staff in the second half. I think on the whole though, it seemed like just a rowdy, pumped crowd on both sides that new they were watching two very good games.

And no music pumped in during the play on the field.  :)

Hazzben's experience was mine as well for the Linfield/UST playoff game in 2010.  Nice experience, nice people, a few jerks in the seats above the visitor's sideline (I didn't think it was that big of a deal).

My personal opinion is that a larger percentage of Olaf's players and fans tend to be punks. I think it really started with the Meidt era (and he affected Bethel when he was here as well). But there was some stupid stuff Olaf guys did on the field and were still doing on Saturday. They had a cornerback in 2006 who was all conference. Before the game he stood in the doorway while Bethel went out to walk up to the field and taunted the team and players for a solid 15 minutes. He was pretty indicative of the way the rest of the team generally acted that Saturday. Knowing this, one of our OL goaded that CB into a 15 yd personal foul. I saw similar stuff on the webcast, and the PA practice seems in keeping with this.

I have more than a couple examples of this.  My freshman year Olaf was called for 7 personal fouls.  Then the same CB you mention was banned from Carleton's campus by winter of his junior year when he got in a fight with a non-football player at Carleton's campus and sucker punched him.  The ban resulted in him missing the Carleton-Olaf game his senior year.

My personal favorite was watching film in 2008 of the Olaf-SJU game when an Ole D-lineman decided to frog splash the Johnnie QB, who had just fallen over, on a 4th and goal play.  This resulted in a first down, a Johnnie TD and cost Olaf the game.

Sheesh. What a year: Hawthorn toss the Grand Final; the Johnnies just squeak out a .500 season; and now the GOP gets stomped.

If I give you any betting advice, don't take it.

By chance did said CB wear #1?
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Sansavere w/ a little Q and A and photo spread on John G.  The last photo to me is a strong indication that Saturday might just be it for John.  Rarely, if ever does he take time for photos after a game.  I've heard that following the GAC game John stayed out on the field for a fairly significant amount of time (20-30 minutes).  The only reason he returns next year is if he really thinks he can get 10 wins or is willing to coach 2 more seasons to get to 500.  No matter what Johns says I believe getting to 500 is something he really wants to do.

I've only seen John stay on the field after the game 2 other times.  409 versus Bethel and last year at Hamline in what could have been his last game.  I don't remember if he hung around at either of the two Stagg Bowls I've been privileged to attend.  His usual thing is to simply disappear when the game is over.

I believe he stayed on the field after number 300 or 400 @ BU.  I wasn't there but I know a banner was unfurled and photos were taken.  Pretty sure some of the folks at BU weren't to pleased about it occurring on their turf.

At the Stagg Bowl, the coach is required to be in the media room 10-20 minutes after the game (10 if they lose, 20 or so if they win).

Concordia just got a big boost from the committee as Wittenberg is blocking Wheaton and Ohio Wesleyan.  Cobber fans have a good shot if Widener, Waynesburg and Cal Lu can avoid upsets this week.

Three possible bids coming from the MIAC.

I would like to see a comparison of the rest of DIII compared to DI BCS.

Not gonna lie, I'm pleasantly surprised. :)

But after last Saturday, I'm not counting my bids before they're announced or before we take care of business on the field.

There's a lot that can get shifted on Saturday. As I said on another board, even if everyone wins who you expect/hope to win, SoS numbers will still shift and could affect the final Regional Ranking. Good stuff though.

hazz - Would I be accused of being selfish if I hope that the Johnnies spoil the Royals Playoff hopes? ;)

Nope, I think that'd mean you were a faithful Johnnie fan...I'd expect nothing less. It's always team first, then conference in my book. (Unless its the dirty rotten Tommies, then all bets are off  ;D)
