Just based off of the last seven years, UW-W is the SEC West and MUC the SEC East. 6 (hopefully not 7) straight SEC Natty champs, and 7 straight from those schools/conferences.
After that it's hard to say, my bias/loyalty says BIG10=MIAC, but not after the year the BIG10 is having. But, the UMAC is the Sunbelt, that I'm pretty sure of.

I just re-read the FAQs here: http://www.d3football.com/interactive/faq/playoffs

For the final 7 Pool C teams, it doesn't look "officially" like they pick teams based on travel constraints, is this correct? Basically, they pick the 7 best teams from the remaining pool of contenders and then work out the travel plans, is that a correct assessment?

If so, there is the potential for there to be a lot of travel in this year's brackets, at least as I have tried to formulate potential brackets before Saturday's games - especially if the top 4 teams in the country stay at the top of their brackets and are not forced to face one another until the 2 semi-final games. The upper-midwest has a glut of teams from MN, WI, IL, IN and OH, that all could be bracketed so as to stay under the 500 mile limitation. But having a top seed and 2 other legitimate teams on the West coast along with having a top seed in the deep South makes it messy travel wise.

If not, and "unofficially" teams do get left on the board because of travel difficulties, it seems the time has come to have the NCAA spend more money on travel so that the top 16 teams on the board are assured first round home games, as they have earned it. And weekly unranked conference champions are forced to travel the furthest for the match-ups.

I would suspect that I speak for many of the D3 die-hard fans that would rather there be some definitive ranking of teams at the end of the year and that number 32 play number 1 in the first round, regardless of travel considerations. I don't think that's ever going to happen, but many of us would feel better about the outcome because we know "our team" has a better chance of getting further along in the post season.

So does anyone definitely know if travel difficulties play a roll in picking the final 7?

no, travel is not a consideration in the selection of the at-large bids. I don't think you really need a 1 vs 32 matchup.  In most years there's only 4 teams with a legit shot of winning the title, and if they can just avoid having those teams play each other in the first couple rounds, I'm happy.  Playoff games in D3 have attendance problems as it is, having teams travel farther doesn't make much sense.

SUMMIT!!!!!

breaking news out of St. Paul....an MIAC football coach is leaving (dramatic pause)

no, SJ nation,  it is NOT Caruso...sorry

my sources tell me that Hamline's coach is making pursuit of Big Foot a full time vocation and is leaving the Pipers.

HU has tried the retread option a lot with little to no success....maybe they will now look for a young firebreathing coach...imagine Meidt applying for the job. More seriously, there are a number of energetic younger coaches (some in area high schools, others assisting at other programs) who would be worth giving a try... it beats what they've been doing on Hewitt/Snelling

What do your sources say about his absence from the sideline last Saturday vs. SJU?

Maybe Tressel takes over again. Could be a Bill Snyder type success/return story.

My cousin's hubby was a really good running back under Tressel and was on the last team to beat the Johnnies, in 1994, and they nearly beat them in '96. I know he's suffered watching what happened to the program. Hamline did actually have good years. Between '88 and '96 Hamline was 3-6 against Johnnies and aside from '93's 69-0 game, they were all tight.

Maybe Caruso to Hamline?

SJU fans, heck, if half of what is said about him on these boards is true, the whole MIAC can only hope for that  8-)

I would think that Tressel would have the inside track if he chooses to pursue it,but Jimmy may also throw his hat in the ring depending on what John decides after this weekend. I know Hazzben was joking but it may not be too far fetched. Also there is Kurt Rambler still available or any number of assistant coaches from UST or UWW or Mt. Union who may want a head coaching gig.

^ Honestly, I was only half joking.

If John retires and Jimmy isn't retained (ok, that's a lot of if's to precede this opinion  :o) Hamline would be a logical landing spot if he wants to stay in MN/D3. But man, talk about some culture shock going from SJU to Hamline! But it would be a good get for Hamline. Whatever Jimmy's limitations might be, and I don't know the guy or have a strong opinion about his ability as a coach, he'd be an improvement over who they've had.

Did I mention that a high school in the area whose games I sometimes attend is Bigfoot HS in Walwaorth. WI. Is that the Bigfoot to whom you referred?
